Lots More Russians Expected within March

Lots more Russians and maybe Ukrainians can be expected to arrive by the end of March. Thousands are being kicked out of Sri Lanka, no more visa extensions.

To get the whole story, Google 'Russian, Ukrainian tourists told to leave country in 14 days'. I'd post the link here but some times the links are not permitted.

Yeh, I read that, perhaps they are causing a rift there....:whistling:

You are 100% right. Big problems for the locals caused by the Russians. Maybe Thailand should consider limiting Russians, or at least reducing their stay period and extensions?

More than that.

After Putin's fake election in March the consensus of opinion is that there will be another major troop mobilization. So that's going to push a new wave of Russians out of Russia and many of them will of course come to Thailand.

Very surprised at Sri Lanka doing this, because they are in China's pocket, not so susceptible to Russian Gov't influence.  But then, money must have changed hands between ministers, to the detriment of Russian civilians avoiding the "war".

But in Sri Lanka, there was an uproar at Russian "tourists" running businesses, some even excluding the locals from their bars and restaurants, so methinks a huge warning should be issued on arrival in Thailand to all Russians to avoid going into business here, lest a similar fate befall them here!

....and don't they 90 day visas now?

Fun, fun, fun.

Isaan is looking better every day.

Actually, I think they can come for 90 days without a visa. Of course Russians extend the visas or change them to education visas, good for 1 year, so they'll be here for a long time. Countries like UK, USA, and others only get 30 days upon arrival. Thailand is turning into tropical Russia.

This is fake news, why is it even allowed to be posted. Only thing that changes is the easy extensions or to stay endlessly, since covid. And the cabinet did not even approve that measure yet.

Secondly, they can return a day later on a normal 30 day visa if desired.

Nooooooo.

Last event I went to....it was for orphaned kids in Pattaya......a big, drunken, Russian bloke got up on the stage, snatched the mic off the lady running the show and punch a poor little Thai guy who tried to get him off the stage....he then commenced shouting and screaming into the mic...... that closed the event down and everyone left him to it.............nice.

For reference:

The immigration controller issued a notice to the tourism ministry asking Russian and Ukrainian people staying on extended tourist visas to leave Sri Lanka within two weeks from 23 February.........the ministry has been receiving complaints of some Russian tourists running unregistered and illegal businesses in the southern part of the country......a furious social media backlash over Russian-run businesses with a “whites only” policy that strictly bars locals. These businesses include bars, restaurants, water sports and vehicle hiring services.

Will Phuket and Pattaya soon become Special Russian Economic Zones like the Chinese one in Sihanoukville???

Maybe you should limit your stays if it bothers you.

Most media also reports that their President says that only the government can revoke these visas as he knows that Sri Lanka desperately needs the Russian tourists more than Thailand does. There will be an investigation to see who has decided to cancel these visas without.

"However, President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s office issued a notice that ordered a probe over the decision to ask Ukrainians and Russians to leave without Cabinet approval.

The Sri Lankan government has officially not taken a call to revoke the visa extensions granted to Ukrainian and Russian tourists, according to the President's Media division, PTI reported."

Storm in a Sri Lankan tea cup. They won't be booted out so they won't be coming here and you'll have to gurn about something else.

So the President and some ministers received their brown envelopes but not the immigration officers?

Russians or Ukrainians are the same with similar cultural patterns. Not saying  one is better or worse then the other...just saying they are very the same.

If even Sri Lanka has ousted them, there must be a good reason.

Can we not just send them all to Phuket and build a thousand foot concrete wall around it so none of them can get out?

just thinking out loud.

The are 'two hundreds' countries in the world, why they should come here?

Very few countries  welcome Russians these days of the countries that Russians or anyone else would usually want to stay at.

The most popular now are Georgia, Turkey, Thailand, Egypt, Serbia, UAE.

It's a moving target. For example Turkey has made it much harder for Russians to stay permanently but of course still welcomes tourists.

A Russian ex-pat who was living in Sri Lanka has fled the country after attempting to organise a 'white party' event, which was met with huge backlash, branding it 'racist' and 'disgusting'.

The advertisement for the party specified a white dress code for guests, but also had a line that read: 'Face control: White,' which was largely understood to mean only white people could attend.

After the advertisement circulated online, the party that was due to be held at Sarayka Lounge in the southern coastal town of Unawatuna, was urgently cancelled.

Would whiteface be accepted?

Total nightmare. I'm in Rawai Phuket now, and it's over-run with them.

The traffic and crowded beaches have made this once idyllic area, a zoo of humanity. Haven't been here in 8 years after living here for 11 (not sure why that went bold), visiting with all my old friends is the best, but after that, probably won't be back to Phuket other than a couple nights to visit with friends and then off to other places in the LOS. Considering how grumped out these Russians are, LOS may not be the term any longer.
