Pattaya gets major respect in the best places to retire abroad on a budget press!

I've seen this trend happening for about five years.

Instead of Pattaya being totally ignored for the stupid reason of the sex industry, more and more Pattaya is not only mentioned but specifically highlighted.

Of course maybe it isn't good if it gets TOO popular, but it is pleasing to get confirmation about what expats here already know -- Pattaya (including the metro area of course) indeed is one of the best places in the world to retire abroad on a budget.

As far as the budget part of it, no it isn't the absolute cheapest, but bang for the baht, the value for what you get is incredible.

I’d rather live in an Iranian’s armpit than in Pattaya

  • The open air brothel by the sea 😄 Not so much the place or the vast numbers of sex workers that puts me off, it's the foreign dross who go there.

  • You really need to do some homework on rental prices in Pattaya. You are way off beam. Ditto for food and transport. I'm guessing you don't live in Pattaya.

And who paid for or promoted the article to be written?

I love these topics so well done to the OP.

Most places in Thailand are very similar for prices.

Try the Darkside, East Pattaya.

Your Iranian's armpit might be pleasantly surprised.🙃🙃

I wouldn’t know. I actually like sriracha. It’s not like my standards are unbearably high

If you wouldn't know you shouldn't comment.

And yes. Sriracha is ok.🙃🙃

Great post.  It is nice to see these articles starting to recognize some of the major pluses that my spouse and I like about living in Pattaya.   Although it's certainly popular as a tourist destination, fifteenth in the world according to Mastercard, I think it's even better as a place to live.

Agree.  Anybody making a comment like that really is clueless regarding what Pattaya has to offer.

Lots of places much cheaper.

But that's not the point.

The Pattaya area pretty much has almost everything international expats could realistically want.

Random places in Thailand do not.

No, not everything of course. Nothing much for western culture like you would get in Europe.

"Housing is very affordable — you can rent a two-bedroom condo just minutes from the beach for around $500," Most likely a 28 sqm dump on Soi Buakhao.

"Food is also more affordable, so expect savings of about 40% compared to what you spend in the U.S." And again, most likely filthy street food prepared in the street by dirty vendors.

"there’s no need for cars, and if you use a mix of rideshare services and public transportation," Enjoy riding in the back of pickup truck with Katoys breathing in polluted air.

"Forbes estimates that you could cover your basic living expenses in Pattaya for around $1,400 per month." And enjoy living like a slum person. I guess this is why there are so many expat losers in Pattaya.

Actually, an amazing country to visit. But definitely wouldn't want to live there!

I think you caused a surge in hotel bookings with that one.

Bangkok and Pattaya for over 25 years.

Just spent a few months in Jomtien. Walking down the side streets was like being in Gaza. 😆

You're wrong.

1400 is plenty for a single person non sexpat anyway to have a very nice life here.

I think the cat is long out of the bag about Pattaya for a long time already so I'm not too worried.

Some factors keep the prices down.

Such as the not great beaches.

Then you must be confusing Bangkok prices with those in Pattaya.

I like the place, and Jomtien would be on my list of retirement spots (I took the oath long ago so I don't care about Pattaya's better nightlife).  But Pattaya gets enough bad press that I think it slows down the inrush.  So far.

I certainly don't want it going viral.  Imagine Taylor Swift buying her 32nd spare condo there...

I'd like to check out Chantaburi more.
