Died March 18th. And being reported April 14th.    Any good reason for the information being suppressed for nearly a month? Other than protecting the image of Koh Tao and Thai tourism generally

Perhaps Namsod, the monster son of the headman of Sairee Beach is back. He appeared to have been banished, after his serial killing became international news, after the deaths of Hanna and David. Alwa

why, what could you possibly get to understand about an island by staying 1 day?

Why has it taken one month to report on this. Frightened it might stop people attending for Songkran

No, never needed too........😉

glad to see some fair reporting for a change, and that alcohol was mentioned, this is usually totally ignored.

Chantal, what a lovely name. Has she gone home to the UK?

Are you thinking of taking her out on a date ?

2 are in prison so not them, but drunk high on balloons he could have fallen  and game over. What will them in prison think they say they not guilty.Lots of questions now on how and why

Any Burmese on the island will be sh#tting razor blades right now.

Seriously why do people go there.  Let me guess, in a week or two a Burmese will be arrested and charged with his murder.

where on earth do you get the you info from or is it just made up?

I lived on Samui for many years and spent some time on Dark Tao. This was very commonly known news, it got to the point where the headman of Sairee had to force his son to leave the country for a while, as the pressure was getting to be too much. Everybody knew what was going on including the cops, who they owned.

Over the years there have been a lot more thanks to social media it’s hard to bury bad news !

Back in the days before social media things were a lot easier for the RTP franchisees. Now that the word gets around to the extent that it does their jobs have become a lot more complicated, and some crimes just can't be covered up. Thankfully.

People are saying more than likely an 'accident' this island seems to have more than the average fair share of 'accidents' in comparison to other provinces and Islands in this country.

Natural causes possibly suicide case closed, next!  RIP though fella sad end to a young life

Just noticed reported happened March 18th, probably go fund me appeal on now!

Safe to assume that the girlfriend had to negotiate the terms of the financial deal with The Mirror that published her story.

Financial negotiations for the story with The Mirror, probably.  No suggestion that the story was "suppressed".

As an alcoholic who used to drink heavily but changed because of the damage I was doing to my own life, now just a few beers once in a while, I look at these things with great sadness. Cultures teach that the drinking "party life" is an admirable one rather than the dangerous one that it is, and these are the casualties of that belief system. I would guess that for every dozen or so people who can drink without overexposing themselves to major risks there is at least one or two who take their lives in their hands every time. Meanwhile ANYONE who becomes visibly drunk has exponentially increased their risk of accidents or being the target of malfeasance. I learned the hard way when both my drinking parents deteriorated severely as they got older and had very compromised health when they died, one of lung cancer; a brother who was a runaway train wreck who died at 42; and another brother who would have died had he not curtailed his drinking before it killed him. I never lecture people about it, I say very little, I can only hope that in the decades that follow the world will evolve to a place where people don't deem it necessary to be drunk in order to have a good time.

It's not called death island for nothing.  I think that's 12 deaths now.

Yes, it is referred to as that for nothing.   Just twelve deaths over how many years and out of how many millions of visitors who didn't die?  Drunks having accidents and drowning in the sea or in pools doesn't justify the name, either.  Maybe it should be called "Chronically Intoxicated Visitors Island" or "Always Off Their Heads Island".

Almost a month later and no cause of death, autopsy results, or even a blood test?

How do you know that?   Not everything is reported to the dregs of the media.

Dark Tao. Visit at your own peril.

Millions of visitors who had great times, returned home safely and went back there for subsequent holidays would disagree with that.

Others at the same event were seen inhaling nitrous oxide, or hippy crack, and there was a raucous drag performance, with drunken tourists joining in dancing provocatively.

Oh what a lovely night out.

So the guy goes missing on 18 March and NO ONE reports it ?
Not even his girlfriend ?

He was found in the morning, just a few hours after a night of being seriously on the piss.

Why didn't this make the news - until nearly a month later ?

Maybe she has only just sobered up.  :coffee1:

From the linked article:

Thai police said they are waiting for the post-mortem results.

Generally, I get suspicious when they withhold details like cause of death and autopsy results.  Even a preliminary report of any injuries they found.  A month later, it's almost as if they don't want the public to know that (much less how) the guest died on their island.
