Thailand's Constitutional Court has today called for respect from all quarters, including academics, politicians, and foreign diplomats, following its decision to dissolve the Move Forward Party.

The Court's ruling, grounded in severe violations of political party laws, marks a significant moment in the nation's political landscape. In its verdict, the Court emphasised the importance of respecting judicial decisions and adhering to international diplomatic protocols.

According to the Court, the dissolution was necessary to uphold political laws that apply equally to all parties. The verdict stated, “Each country has its own constitution and internal legislation, which differ from other countries’.

Therefore, any expression of opinion should be conducted according to international and diplomatic standards.” This statement underscores the Court's expectation for diplomatic entities to approach the issue with respect for the nation’s legal framework.

The Court also noted that the Move Forward Party's actions posed a threat to the country's democracy under a constitutional monarchy. By dissolving the party and barring its executives from politics for ten years, the Court aims to safeguard the democratic process and uphold the rule of law.

The ruling has not only stirred local political circles but has also drawn international attention. Prior to the decision, a group of European Union diplomats met with Move Forward Party's former leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, in a move interpreted as support for the party and an attempt to influence the Court’s decision. Additionally, some ASEAN parliamentarians have publicly opposed the dissolution.

This case highlights the delicate balance between domestic law and international diplomatic relations. As the dust settles, the call for respect and adherence to mutual protocols will test the international community's response to internal judicial processes.

Why would anyone have respect for such a blatant political move solely aimed at the removal of a thorn in the side of the corrupt pretend government for such a minor matter when compared to the other problems the country faces everyday.

Everyone should be condemning this loudly and clearly.

The ruling Politicians did what they needed to do to hang on to their very lucrative Government positions. This is all about power which produces prodigious amounts of personal wealth. Apparently, the court's decision was leaked and Move Forward politicians are being offered upwards of ฿30B to jump ship.

How can they possibly ask for respect for Thailand and it's legal system when Thailand is now a laughing stock on the world stage?

How to make me laugh heartily and be very angry at the same time. This decision is an antithesis of democratic process by a corrupt legal arm of the Junta and the Boss.

Respect you have to earn and the votes of 14 million Thais being thrown away only because an outdated law is not the democracy Thailand pretends to be.. Maybe an opportunity for the EU and US to bring some sanctions in as they often do with countries like North Korea, Russia and other non democratic regimes. The decision is not democratic and of course people wilol talk about it but nobody shall invade Thailand. Best thing is to avoid the country as much as possible

Yea right.

Fact is , democratic process has been trashed and the rule of law selectively applied.

Again and again and again

How about a little respect for the millions of votes ?  Guess they don't mix in the right circles.

I am sure that the judges of the constitutional court received orders and directives from a higher instance .

Now they want respect ?

Respect has to be earned and deserved , and not by acting as muppets ...

Artisi, You said it better than me, but I repost my comment from another thread:

"Shameful.  If Thailand's economy /people didn't drastically need industrial foreign direct investment I would advocate that everybody broadcast to the world the following social /political truth:

"Thailand is still a Feudal Patronage Society Masquerading as a Constitutional Monarchy".

TIT - laws are not enforced, unless the elite benefit.

The rule of law is the rule of lawlessness.

Prattz. One earns respect.

It cannot be forced or demanded.

Respect is earned, not given.

It's a 'legal' coup before MFP had a chance to govern, nipping democracy in the bud before it had a chance to blume, this decision is a disgrace and is rightly recognized as such by the international community.

Politics throughout the world seem more & more fouled with corruption & self serving egos. Even in my home country I feel outraged and nauseated, but like the people of Thailand am plagued with (E.g., "what can I do" or "my vote doesn't count").

Our race seems to be at catastrophic crossroads.

Holding general elections in Thailand is, once again, shown to be pointless.

Well you have the government and laws you deserve. When your priorities are K-pop, TikTok, Som Tam, this is what you get.

Recognize the decision? Yes.

Respect the decision? That is a different matter.

I don't feel comfortable expressing my opinion on this matter.

Is that respect?

Thanatorn, FFP, Limcharoenrat, MFP. The old guard really don't want them holding the reins of power. I hope the "new" party is squeaky clean, and learn from past failures.

Don't give their enemies anything to use against them next election.

Respect needs to be earned, not insisted upon. In those 20 years I've followed such cases in Thailand, the court has done nothing to earn my respect. I'll leave it there.
