I'd put money on it that this is just another instance of standard corruption...nothing else. Justice is for sale here...and if you have enough cash, you can literally get away with murder.  I recall that there was also Swiss David's significant other that joined in berating the doctor, including reference to her having  high-powered friends in the RTP. I have zero faith in any aspect of the Thai legal system, it's all about the baht.  I hope the doctor doubles down instead of rolls over.

I suspect it may take the assistance of someone with local influence for a foreigner to own and run an elephant park in Phuket. Perhaps that someone could have had a quiet word with the right person.

thanks - for some reason I thought there was a self incriminating video that show him making the assault - though I may have had my wires crossed with another (different) assault by a Swiss-man at the time...

Court Dismisses Case Against Swiss Man Accused of Assaulting Doctor

A Thai court has dismissed charges against Urs Fehr, a 45-year-old Swiss national, who was accused of kicking Dr. Thandao Chandam, a local physician, at Cape Yamu beach, Phuket. The incident allegedly took place in February, but the court has now exonerated Fehr due to insufficient evidence.

 

Dr. Thandao, associated with Dibuk Hospital, claimed that Fehr had kicked her while she was sitting on stairs, admiring the moon on the night of 24th February. Following her complaint, Fehr's visa was revoked on March 5th.

 

The acting governor, Sattha Thongkham, took swift action by instructing the Phuket Immigration Police to cancel his visa. This directive was carried out the following day by Pol. Maj. Gen. Songprot Sirisukha, commander of Immigration Police Bureau 6.

 

Despite these actions, the court offered the defendant the benefit of the doubt, leading to the dismissal of the charges. Dr. Thandao declined to provide any public comments following the court's decision.

Fehr has been pushing back against his visa cancellation. He appointed a representative to appeal to the Immigration Police Review Committee, seeking to have the revocation overturned. However, the outcome of this appeal remains uncertain.

 

This case has garnered significant local and international attention, highlighting the complexities and challenges in cross-cultural legal incidents.

That said - the acquittal does bring into question the validity of comments in other threads that us foreigners are treated unequally….  This guy has received a very soft response from Thailands judiciary process. 
 

I think many of us here who see someone attack someone horribly in this manner deserves a lot worse whatever their nationality.

I agree, didn't look like he kicked her from the video... she just got up and walked away... I saw no kicking.  

That's gotta be a joke.  Either him or his wife filmed the ordeal, which was used as evidence, if I remember correctly! This reeks of tea money!

To be fair, it only takes a senior immigration officer to decide he is not good for the country or its image, and they can have him out.

 

They don't need to really justify themselves to us.

 

Winning the case is one thing, but he still has an uphill battle, especially in regard to the elephant foundation, government officers against him, etc

 

I don't even doubt for a second in my mind, money has exchanged hands to get this result, and plenty of it.
