Why do decent Americans support trump

"Why do decent Americans support Trump", a question that is hard to answer if that is the case.

The USA is doing well, ordinary folk are thought of, under the present administration, they must have seen the cr@p Trump has been spouting too, so perhaps they are decent, but a sandwich short of a picknick...

  • Oh great, another left rant. Why not throw Hitler into it as well?

  • Why don't you refute the arguments instead of just saying "another left rant?" I guess you find facts hard to argue against.

  • Because when it says, "Why do you throw your support behind a convicted felon?" when everyone who has half a brain cell knows the charges were political, it doesn't warrant a rebuttal. It is just a fa

So you're vindictive as well as delusional? Like a mini-Trump.

"’Why do decent Americans support Trump"?    Has it ever occurred to you that they may not BE "decent Americans"?  Only the very worst elements in the voting population will support this man.

To the above I might add -

Normally when I happened to step on a dog tvrd, I would say oh shlt. Because the former is a sub category of the latter. Doesn't matter whether I came from the left or the right, a POS is a POS, no matter what angle you look at it.
I have the same reaction when running into a MAGA fan, or a traitor or a Trump supporter. Because a supporter of a traitor is a traitor to me.

Ordinary folk disagree that the USA is doing well. They think the country is on the wrong track by a 2 to 1 margin.

This thread illustrates the usual divide between left and right.  I think it is possible for a lot of decent Americans to support Harris. They aren't idiots or deluded or anything like that. Just wrong IMHO.  Yet it is so so so hard for those on the left to admit the same about Trump.

Why decent people go for Trump?

Years of right-wing propaganda masquerading as news and informed commentary has convinced them. That even if he is a horrible person and a criminal they should vote for him because his “policies are better for the country”.

he's all the above and people still prefer him over the alternative !! hahah

Why do you throw your support behind a convicted felon, and yes they are bona fide convictions and not from "lefties" as you tend to label them?

8% of Americans and 33% of black males have felony records. Others like Biden were just let off as too old and having a bad memory when Trump was charged with the same 'crime' then thrown out. Going back in time LBJ was the most crooked President of the 20th century, took bribes, sex pest and little doubt he had Mac Wallace kill people. Oh another democrat of course. Having a few accounting convictions is neither here nor there when the future of the country is at as stake.  Jesus was also convicted on a political charge.

Yes, they cannot just logically and calmly disagree with his policies, most don't even know what they are. They just hate and despise him without justifiable reasons, so resort to the fascist/ nazi/ dictator/ traitor trope parroting the worst of the media,  as some do on here.

Nothing new about dissatisfaction. It's been 20 years since more people were satisfied than dissatisfied. But I didn't hear the right-wing media telling us how dissatisfied people were under Trump even though they were.

It sure is because they are so diametrically opposite it's unreal.

Dems didn't really have a problem with past GOP presidents (although we all thought it couldn't get any worse than Bush) but this version of extremism is just too much. We all know the border is a problem - but that won't change with mass deportations and demonisation of a whole swathe of the population. Tarriffs on all countries has been univesally panned as a REALLY bad idea  https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-economy-nobel-prize-winners-letter-inflation-warning/. Giving Putin what he wants means at minumum, territory lost for Ukraine and a sovereign nation, backed by a functioning democracy, being not in charge of it's own  destiny and the knock on affect on the larger EU block. But I especially hate him treating EVERYTHING like it's some big deal to be done - another mega hotel or the purchase of a golf club which his provelaged upbringing has led him to believe he deserves, that it's his destiny. International politics is far more nuanced than a block of condo's on the beach.  Add on the Xenaphobia, the downright racism, the lies, lies and yet more lies and the contest isn't even close.

But yeah, she probably giggles a bit more than she should.

Another dismal performance by Trump

Ugly. Malicious. Spiteful. Donald Trump’s latest large-scale event has done more to damage him than anything Kamala Harris could say.

"I think it is possible for a lot of decent Americans to support Harris." - Because she's a decent human being.

"Yet it is so so so hard for those on the left to admit the same about Trump."  - Because he's an INdecent human being (to put it mildly.)

To put both arguments as two sides of an equation, sorry it doesn't equate. However to those lacking in the concept of decency, yet inclined to toss this notion around freely in their operational sphere, it might.

Anyway for the umpteenth time, please spare us  "Just wrong IMHO."Totally nonsensical, and in this case irrelevant. Simply because to determine wrong/right you need a modicum of morality in the first place. And morality starts with decency, say you get the chicken after you got the egg. Without that I doubt your assessment of wrong vs right amounts to much - of anything, sincerely,

Sure, I for one take this welcome news with open arms, and much gratitude...

One thing I'd like to add is that, notion of decency aside, one thing Trump supporters like to fudge and hope the rest of Americans would not notice, is that they are supporting a traitor. As in treason. And when it comes to that there's a clear line in the sand. One side has to be in jail (and I'm being generous, very) ie if it's not me, then it's you.

So pray pray and pray that your traitor idol is going to win and hand out pardons like candies, because otherwise you might need to go to Canada or somewhere the other side of the US border. Your future will look so bright you might want to wear shades. Best wishes.

Divide? Where, left? right? Ahh ah,  we Americans are more united than ever. So please don't fudge the issue. We are under attack, and this time the enemies are among us. We call them traitors. I will venture to name one of them: Trump. As in Donnie.

It isn't about left vs. right unless you think Liz Cheney and the Lincoln Project people are left wing.

Better to be a traitor than a Jew hating anti-American baby killing child mutilating leftist who when given power, murders their opposition. That's a fact of history. Right wing dictators like Pinochet are tyros compared to their leftist competition, who have murdered more human beings than anybody else.

A better question would be why do non Americans especially the British, seem so obsessed with American politics?

I bet 95% of Americans have no idea who the British Prime Minister even is, because it is not important they could careless.

Many European countries are affected (sooner or later) by what happens in the USA.  I guess that most US citizens are not aware (and why should they be) of the international reach of American political direction.

Very few people in this forum besides me live in the US. Some people with opinions about american politics have never even been to the US. Never take anything you read here seriously. A month ago this forum felt very strongly in a Harris win, but the sentiment is only according to things they read online, which are also fabricated

Decent Americans support Trump because he isn't Biden or Harris.

In 2016 it was because he  wasn't Clinton.

When the US affects every other nation on the planet as little as Botswana does, we'll talk about US politics as much as we do about Botswana.

If the US starts a nuclear war in Ukraine, we all suffer.
