French Restaurant Owners in Phuket Arrested for Assault

A disturbing incident unfolded recently in Phuket's Patong area, involving two French nationals who own a local restaurant. The pair allegedly attacked two Burmese workers who arrived late for work. The assault left one of the workers unconscious and severely injured.

The incident came to light through a widely shared video on social media, showing two foreign men violently attacking Asian workers.

Despite the severity of the attack, no formal complaint had been initially reported. The victims, both Burmese, were hospitalised following the attack, which reportedly occurred on 14th January.

Police investigations identified the assailants as SAID IDJIHADI and SOFIANE REDOUANE HADJI, French nationals who had hired five Burmese workers to renovate their French restaurant in Patong.

On the day of the incident, displeased with the late arrival of their employees, Mr. Idjihadi slapped one worker, Aye Min, aged 37. Although Aye Min proceeded to work upstairs, tensions escalated.

Mr. Idjihadi later confronted Aye Min again, leading to a decision by Mr. Min to leave work. This resulted in a group assault on Aye Min and his co-workers.

Mr. Min attempted to flee, but was pursued and violently attacked, suffering lacerations from a sharp object. A concerned citizen eventually transported him to Patong Hospital, where another worker also sustained injuries.

Later that evening, police arrested Mr. Idjihadi and Mr. Hadji at their restaurant. They were charged with assault causing physical and psychological harm. Upon confronting the suspects with the video evidence, both men admitted their involvement in the attack.

The arrests underscore the seriousness of the crime, with the perpetrators now facing legal consequences, reported News1.

Interest emphasis on nationality here.

Usually, when the Burmese are in the wrong, they are 'foreign' workers or immigrants.

Here, maybe hoping to get sympathy from Thais, they are Asian.

Nasty, brutal attack. Their passports might be French but their names suggest otherwise. Religion of peace? Hope the guy who got his head stomped on is OK.

I wonder if this restaurant is a front business.

One Thai lady gets a kick in the back and there is media all over it , wanting the Farang to be thrown out.

Let's see how this one plays out with the media.

In 1946, France granted French citizenship to all residents of  the many colonies they held, justifying the conscription of many colonial resident's to fight with French Force during WW2 and hoping to hold off the many  independence movements brewing.  Now, they're stuck with them.

You missed to point, they are just the typical bloodthirsty ragheads. What do you think was the main driver of the October 7 Pogrom?  I was getting high on violence, nothing else.

I was surprised to see that French nationals would do such a thing.. So I wanted to read about this...

Only to realize that these are the French nationals who consult the Koran before determining the course of action.

So they were following orders stipulated in the Koran, and acted upon people who were not following their orders regarding the clock.

You see if you read this paragraph, and then apply it in the real world, then the course of action becomes very clear.... 😊

Jeezus, working at Amazon seems a cake walk.

Hope the Arab scumbags with French passports suck on some real justice after their unjustified violence. Cowards.

Interesting, but hardly surprising.  I think we all know that "foreigners" doesn't quite apply the same to all non-Thais.  There's definitely an element of other Asians not being considered quite as alien as non-Asians.

Your employees arrive late for work, I'm sure there are other disciplinary measures an employer can take rather than physical violence, open a restaurant in France and give that a go with late employees...pathetic.....
