For as long as I can remember, after 9/11, LGA containers have always been limited to under 100ml. Whats the issue? Just stick to the regs and cruise on through.

The restriction was introduced following discovery of a terror plot in 2006.  9/11 was 2001.

And on any flight into Oz from Bangkok there is an additional security check at the entrance to the gate. I have seen people lose bottles of booze that they have purchased at duty free on numerous occasions.

It has nothing to do with the normal security scans that everyone must go through before passport control.

Every bag/ backpack etc is inspected by hand.

 

Duty free booze can be purchased, but must be in a sealed bag and delivered to the gate after the bag search. Unfortunately not every knows this and can lose a couple of hundred bucks of fine booze.

Now I've learned to carry an empty flask and a few packs or 3 in 1 coffee, find the hot water dispenser in the waiting room, make myself a flask of coffee, and then carry it on the plane with me and drink it during the flight.

I also remember in the 70s and 80s when Pattaya, Phuket, Acapulco, Rio de Janeiro, Caribbean and many other places in the world were great places to be but have since then turned into <deleted> holes.

Where have you been for the last 20 years or so, maximum 100ml for each individual container has been the standard since these rules were brought in worldwide? A standard Ventolin inhaler is 100ml so you could carry 10 if you so desired?

It was the regulations that deterred/prevented the increase in using aircraft as a target, which at the time was becoming a plan.

It worked, as you say how many succumbed to this bombing, very few.

But if nutters were allowed to walk through any airport virtually unchecked, who knows what the loonies would have done

All that Thailand is doing is  enforcing the applicable rules. nothing has changed except now  they want to see all liquids in one bag.

As others who have been flying have pointed out, as new  3D scanners  are introduced in the UK and the EU, the limits are being increased significantly. Thailand is still using the old US style  scanners. 

 

THAI used to fly a non stop to LA. I could see that returning now that the FAA has upgraded Thailand's airport

I know and do carry Ventolin. Perhaps my comment was not clear. If a volume of, say, 125 mils is filled with a product of 125 mils it leaves no room for the propellent gas. However looking belatedly at the technicalities of 'aerosols cans' it would seen the propellent is within the product and released only when the pressure in the container is reduced as the release valve is operated. A good anology would be a bottle or can of Coca Cola when the cap ortab is opened.

I think it is the airline that has been upgraded/recertified, not an airport.

This is about liquids in hand-carry going through security, not about a successful blag of Thai Customs (if it ever happened).

What's with this DIY? I am a relentless presser of the call button when I want a drink or three while airborne. Air fares are ridiculous, so I ensure I extract my money's worth by keeping the trolley dollies busy.

Airside is secure in that anything entering it, be it booze for the DF shop, water and sodas for the food courts, or contact lens solution at Boots, has been screened and is stored securely. Anything coming from landside is not secure, hence the screening.

Still do look forward to flying. Priority check-in, priority baggage, priority security (no issues), airline lounge access (choice of 4 Star Alliance lounges at BKK and LHR T2), priority boarding. Business class seat and food and drink. What's not to like? 555 Never had an issue.

Yeah, I agree!! The should just ban terrorists! Why the Hell have they not thought of this? Maybe at check in someone could ask if they're a terrorist or not. If they say no they can go through without security. If they say yes they should be scanned or maybe even arrested.

It generally only takes around five minutes, it really isn't a hassle. But if it keeps you from flying it's a good thing as I would hate to be sat next to you on a plane.
