Thai people I wouldn't say are particularly happy they just accept their fate and have given up on the political system, the judicial system so rocking the boat and wanting change are just pipe dreams

Imagine starting a polling business selling information to as many countries as they’re prepared to pay for it. Of course each paying customer will choose the ranking for themselves. They can call one “happiest”, another “gladest”, another “cheerfullest”, and so on.

If it was an online thing, then 45% of Indians don’t even have access to the internet. I suspect if you asked Indians across all casts, the result may not show such contentment.

And your point is what? The scenario you are describing is double taxation. No one is calling for that. There is a tax treaty between Thailand and Australia that addresses that. However, a low income foreign pension living in Thailand has not exactly contributed to Thailand as he, which begs the question as to why one would expect to not contribute to the society in which he lives and benefits from. That would be one hefty dollop of self deluded entitlement.

That place is freaking toxic Some of you guys need to get out more. You walk around a tiny part of the capital and then speak of ALL Thais. Bizarre. In other news, I was recently walking around the Rommani Park/Giant Swing area and was struck with how happy everyone seemed. Perhaps I was wrong, some of you ‘learned’ miserable lot would haven seen it differently. But why live in a place if you don’t care for the people and it makes you so unhappy ? Having spent a lot of time around Thais in all parts of the country and having been to many countries, I’d go along with this. The family and friends thing is a big deal, they don’t get caught up in our manmade religions and they generally don’t get overly serious. But I think a main factor for Thais being generally happy is that they don’t tend to overthink, or get entangled in thought so much. Some donkey will make a quip about that. Whatever.
