Tomorrow's buddha day is also an election day on Samui so any new rules will only apply after 1700 till midnight on Sunday, therefore still no alcohol 1700 Saturday till 1700 Sunday.

So basically nothing. The "exceptions" is basically all of Thailand. What about voting days? This is complete BS spin.

Already causing total confusion in Hua Hin. There are elections this weekend so the mayor has a ban on alcohol, but some people are saying hotels can sell it, etc. etc. I can see this weekend being very lucrative for the old B.I.B...

And then the weeping..."We don't understand.  Why does Vietnam get so many tourist who used to come to Thailand." 😢

I'll take a shot at that - They can have a beer on the beach between 2pm and 5pm and the entire Thai cultural isn't "SHOCKED, SHOCKED I SAY BY BAD TOURISTS" whom they now want to be kicked out of their country.

Headline News: "Foreigner Sits On Sacred Wall."
Confused Tourist: "It's just a bunch of bricks."
Thais: "WE'RE SHOCKED!  SHOCKED!!!!  KICK ALL FOREIGNER OUT!!!"

Headline News: "Foreigner Leans Against Sacred Tree."
Confused Tourist: "The tree out in the middle of nowhere has a ribbon around it.  I leaned against to get out of the heat."
Thais: "WE'RE SHOCKED!  SHOCKED!!!! BAD BAD FARANGS.  KICK THEM OUT!"

Headline News: "Foreigner Drinks Beer On Beach At 3PM.  Arrested By Police!"
Confused Tourist: "I was drinking beer in Vietnam on the beach at 3PM last week.  What's this stupid Thai law? I didn't even know there was a law!"
Thais: "WE'RE SHOCKED!  SHOCKED!!!! BAD DRUNK FARANGS DISRESPECT THAI SACRED BEACH WITH AFTERNOON BEER.  GET RID OF THEM!"

What beach can you not drink on? Certainly not a thing in samui, phangan, Tao, chumphon.

Just Zban the Thais from drinking on their holidays and elections. Sure that would go over well, but it is intended for them anyway.

That's essentially how it is right now defacto.

Where are you living? It isn't like that in my Lotus, 7/11 etc.

I love these "I'm better than you" comments. Comment nothing to with the validity of the alcohol sales ban more about self-promotion (smile).

Haha, sorry if I offended you.

A little sensitive maybe.

One of the more stupidest posts I have read... go back home whinger.

What they actually meant to say - but could not wrap up in clear words = see "Thai-style" is, that the five mentioned categories are conclusive.

All other establishments could never care to start with so we're all good to go now.

Unclear though is my lack of understanding; what is the difference between Thai Buddhism and the philosophy celebrated and followed in neighbouring Burma/Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia - as in all those places there is no such thing as prohibiting booze - just asking

So, will we see open slather, as was the lifting of the cannabis ban, which was for medicinal purposes only... 555, and we know how that went, from the very first day.

I can go a bit longer... 40 years, might need a drink soon, Thailand's immigration laws, and bank not allowing new accounts, for whatever reasons that suits them, are doing my head in... 555

What about restaurants? Do they come under service establishments ?

Apparently not. It seems ok to get <deleted> faced in a nightclub but not to have a glass of wine with your meal

Stupid tourist who lean on sacred trees usually only do it one time as they are usually attacked by ferocious red ants

I have to ask. A man collapses due to heat exhaustion but there is no drinkable water available. However, there are two bottles of Leo. Unfortunately it is 3pm.........?

My local bar on Soi 6 Pratumnak Hill also had a notice of no alcohol sales. The bar manager showed me the letter

The article mentions that a list is going to be published of approved locations but no sign of it yet, and the first of the affected days is only just over a day away.

Of course it's the Thai way to leave everything and any information till the last minute.  Thais wouldn't ring the fire brigade till their house was burnt to the ground.

If you're not interested, then why browse or comment?

I never go into Thai language, gay, gardening or golf sub-forums because I have no interest there.

Can you not do the same here?

Here in Chiang Mai, (most) bars stopped serving at 6:00 pm due to elections.

One of the more popular nightlife spots - Zoe in Yellow - didn't even open.

Aren't there elections?

Indeed, there are - so any relaxation of booze restrictions on account of Visakha Bucha 2568/2025 also falling tomorrow will presumably be trumped in this instance. After all, we can't run the risk of having voters commit VUI, can we?

On the other hand, campaigning pick-ups promoting particular candidates' manifestos with amplified announcements made at top volume interspersed with loud boom-boom music which make our window frames rattle (and which have been the bane of our existence these past few weeks on my moobaan) are cheerfully tolerated - nay gleefully encouraged, I strongly suspect - by the powers-that-be.🤬

Thumbs up for writing "powers that be" instead of "powers to be".

I pisd on a temple in Katmandu once. It was really dark, I was bursting and it was a vacant block. The "temple" was a bunch of bricks on the ground. Some local lads saw me. I had to run but fortunately there was a bakery nearby. The owner explained and all was ok. Great bakeries in Katmandu when I was there and I'm sure there still are.

Oh dear, Was that you?My wife mentioned reading that a falang ching chong in temple.

Basically I had no idea. I went back in the morning to have a look. It was a mound of dirt with some bricks and some small Buddhist symbols on a vacant block of land. Impossible to spot at night in the dark. Religion (yes I call Buddhism a religion) is very odd indeed. Interesting though that your wife read about "a falang going ching chong in temple" 40 odd years ago in Nepal.:cheesy:
