A 23-year-old British man has been arrested in Bangkok after police found more than 9 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in his hotel room. Officers from Metropolitan Police Division 5 detained Mr. Wilson George Henry Allaway with the drugs, which were packed in bags and stored inside a large suitcase. He now faces charges of possessing and distributing a category 1 narcotic with intent to sell.

The arrest took place on 30 September 2025 following a tip-off from an informant who reported that a foreign man was keeping drugs in a hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok. The suspect had checked into a fourth-floor room and was reportedly waiting to deliver the narcotics to a customer, possibly out of the country. Fearing the drugs might be moved or destroyed, police decided to proceed without a search warrant and coordinated with hotel staff to access the room.

When officers knocked on the door, Mr. Allaway opened it and police identified themselves before explaining the search. As he did not speak or read Thai, Police Lieutenant Colonel Phongthanin Bumrungsuksawasti, who speaks English, translated the request. Inside, officers found a pink SWISS+ brand suitcase on the bed containing 10 packets branded GUANYIN tea, each filled with crystal methamphetamine, weighing a total of 9,152 grams.

Mr. Allaway admitted the drugs were his and was informed he would be arrested for “selling a type 1 narcotic (methamphetamine or crystal meth) with intent to distribute.” He was taken, along with the evidence, to Metropolitan Police Division 5 to complete the arrest report. The suspect later told police that he had received the drugs from another British man known only as “Snoopy” and was being paid 20,000 baht to store them before passing them on to a buyer.

The case has now been handed to investigators at Lumpini Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities are expected to pursue the source of the narcotics and identify the man referred to as “Snoopy.” Mr. Allaway remains in custody pending the outcome of the investigation and formal charges.

An informant? I could just imagine who that might be as the same thing happened to my nephew when he was a teenager. He had a less amount than the accused here but copped 6 months or his life. He opted for the 6 months and is now happily married with a wife and kids and since has never looked back.

Ouch!!! That’s gonna hurt.

"arrested for “selling a type 1 narcotic...". To split hairs, like a decent lawyer should, where is the evidence he was 'selling'? Not saying he could claim drugs were 'for personal use' 😉

Not a good career choice, ya think?

Maybe additional evidence the human brain is not set til late 20's

This young fella looks ptetty skinny now but I don't reckon the diet of fish head soup and rice that he's gonna get at BKK. Hilton where he will be living  will fatten him up much. Silly boy.

I'm no lawyer, but if they can decide to proceed without a warrant, what's the point of applying for one?

So who was the informant that knew about it and who were the suppliers and customer. Seems they aren't interested in anyone apart from this guy as plastered him all over the news so the others will be hiding I'm sure.

Possessing 9 kilos is a slam dunk for convicting him of possession for sales or distribution.

I'm no lawyer either but understand warrants are required for routine cases to avoid abuse of power, but exceptions balance this against public safety—e.g., in fast-moving drug scenarios where evidence could vanish in hours. Without such rules, police could enter any space on a whim; with them, the system allows flexibility for genuine emergencies while upholding accountability.

It’s in the wording of the laws. Quantities above certain minimal amounts are presumed intended for sale

If it’s a first offense and if he turns informant maybe this will stop short of ruining his whole life. 23 is pretty young

Agreed. It would be interesting to know who informed on him, and why.

Yo gonna argue with em?

  • Popular Post

If he hadn't accepted 20K to "look after a suitcase for me" then could still argue case wasn't his and had no idea what was in it etc. After all, if someone you think you know says "mate, I've got to check out of my hotel, can I leave a bag at your hotel for a few days", you might agree.

Of course ignorance is no defence under Thai law so he's done. Stupid stupid mistake - right now as I type this he's starting his first morning of many thousands behind bars in Thailand.

No fear at all! Even after immigration officers changed back to their green uniforms at BKK he still has no fear.

You wouldn't look after somebody's suitcase for a few days named snoopy. Snoopy from the UK I would never look after their bag.

It might be similar to the UK, where if you're stupid enough to agree to the search, they're allowed to do so without a warrant?

Snooped on by Snoopy - now faces the dog house for 20,000 thb.

Buggered for peanuts.

  • Popular Post

Very unfortunate. Painful lesson for such a small amount of money considering the charges. HIs life just got turned upside down. Snoopy, the more than likely bad guy, is making his way out of the country.
