Pattaya City Council has initiated a public survey in Soi Buakhao to gauge opinions on implementing a one-way traffic system aimed at alleviating congestion. Led by Anupong Phutthanavarat, Chairman of the Committee on Governance and Public Order, the survey involved distributing questionnaires to residents and business owners. The proposed plan seeks to ease traffic flow in a notoriously congested area.

Previously, similar one-way traffic systems were successfully implemented on Soi Pattaya Second Road 11 (Honey Inn) and Soi 13 (Diana Inn), resulting in improved traffic flow and safety. Encouraged by these outcomes, the committee is considering extending the measures to Soi Buakhao and its connecting streets. This effort is part of Mayor Poramet Ngampichet’s strategy to address traffic issues through community-supported solutions.

The survey emphasizes gathering community input to ensure the plan aligns with local needs and preferences. Anupong highlighted the importance of sustainable, data-driven solutions while involving residents in decision-making processes. The initiative reflects ongoing commitments to enhancing the quality of life for Pattaya’s residents by addressing persistent traffic problems.

The gathered feedback will be reviewed at the committee’s forthcoming meeting to decide on the most effective approach to implement the one-way system in Soi Buakhao. The aim is to secure long-term reductions in traffic congestion and enhance road safety in the area.

Key Takeaways

  • Pattaya City Council explores a one-way system for Soi Buakhao.
  • Successes on Soi Pattaya Second Road inspire further implementation.
  • Community feedback is central to the traffic management plan.

  • ban private cars between 5pm and 5am, motorbikes and baht buses only

  • Only for 4 wheeled vehicles , motor bikes will still ride against the traffic and food carts will still narrow the road way.

  • Halve the amount of Baht busses using it... problem solved 😉

They just spent a fortune on painting lines for 2 way traffic.

The soi is not congested. It just has a lot of 'grabpas with their 30 year old wifes.🙃🙃

I could swear that when I was there on New Year 2024/2025, this was already implemented? 🤨😳

Accidents there everyday, most would be avoided by one way, i saw a falang get his foot/ankle run over the other day, probably broken, all because not enough room to walk. Make it one way ASAP

Excellent idea. That street is a safety hazard for both cars and pedestrians.

Not this old chestnut again. So what were all those painted lines for?

Correct, one way is the way to go

Close it down to traffic totally after 6pm make it a walking street.

A completely impractical solution if you mean along its complete length

Finally, a good idea from the ones in charge, it will alleviate the jams on 2nd road somewhat, if they make the direction parallel.

I don't think the concept works too well. Bangla in Patong is closed down at night and it just makes for a very congested city, because Beach Rd went one way also. How about widening the sidewalk and reserving it for walking and clearing away vendors?

Great idea for people that live on soi Boukhao…….

You put as much thought into that as city hall!

 see above

Not having been in pattaya for a few months, what happened to the one-way soi buakhao experiment they were doing a few months ago? Nothing?

Last week the plan was two way traffic on Bukhao and one way traffic on more of the sois off of it, like Soi Honey. Next week …..who knows ?

As this actually seems to be a sensible plan, does anyone really think it will be implemented? I very much doubt it.

Still one way Soi Diana and Soi Honey, working well, but they chickened out of making Buakhao one way

Soi Buakhao isn’t hard to navigate once you’re used to it.

I’ve only been knocked down twice this month.

Maybe it was a proof of concept. Now that it has shown that it works, expand it.

Wait, that can't be right. This is Thailand...

Ask the business owners and pay attention to their input.  How would a one way street affect deliveries?  How would it impact the tiny sois between Buakhao and Third Rd.?   Double parking on Buakhao is a serious problem but there is no alternative.

Sod off. Mine's only nineteen.

So which direction does the one-way traffic flow on Diana and Honey these days? I'll be visiting next week and that may affect my hotel pick.
