Customers who bought Chevrolets at full price peeved, demand compensation

On Tuesday (February 25), a group of Chevrolet customers submitted a letter to Chevrolet Sales (Thailand) representatives at Rasa Tower in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, demanding that the company compensate them for having bought the All New Captiva, Chevrolet’s latest SUV, at full price.

Last week General Motors announced it would end production and sales of its Chevrolet line in Thailand by the end of the year, causing Chevrolet to cut prices in half to clear stocks of more than 4,000 vehicles in the country.

The cost of a Captiva LS dropped from Bt999,000 to Bt499,000 and the LT models from Bt1.099 million to Bt599,000. The premier model was Bt699,000, down from Bt1.199 million. Smaller discounts also applied to Colorado models and Trailblazers.

The price cut has upset those who bought their Chevrolets at full price, and they have been urged to cooperate with the Foundation for Consumers to demand compensation from the company.

The letter they submitted today (February 25) urges the company to take either of the following actions: 1) Pay the price difference to those who bought vehicles at full price, or 2) Allow the customers to cancel their contracts and return the vehicles for a full refund.

Were they coerced ? Did the sales people and / or the dealership lie to them ?

Hold a gun to their head ?

If all answers a resounding NO ...

Put it down to the continuing cost of your education

I guess their main concern is that the neighbours will think that they bought a car for 500k instead of one million, massive loss of face to buy such a cheap car.

Had one for 7 years.  Only thing I changed during that time was the tires.  Solid vehicle.  Not sure what you are on about... Would take one of their diesels over any CRV/BRV

Chevrolet: We won’t compensate customers who bought vehicles at full price

By THE NATION

Chevrolet Thailand made it clear today (February 25) that the company will not compensate customers who bought the all new Captiva, its latest SUV, at full price as some of them demanded.

Earlier in the day, a group of customers who bought Chevrolet vehicles at full price submitted a letter to Chevrolet Sales (Thailand) representatives, demanding that the company compensate them after Chevrolet cut the prices of its vehicles by 50 per cent to clear stocks of more than 4,000 vehicles in the country last week.

“Chevrolet Thailand has no policy on compensation in this case since the price-cut promotion took effect from February 18 and was in accordance with the law,” the company announced.

The firm’s after-sales service will continue at Chevrolet service centres nationwide once the brand withdraws from the Thai market at the end of this year.

They were basically giving the away for free at that price, hence the reason I said, I wouldn't buy one if they gave it to me for free.

The above said, when I went looking for a car 4 years ago, I walked into Chevrolet "twice" in two days and no one would serve me, girl behind the counter said on both occasions, salesman on telephone, waiting please, Toyota wouldn't budge on price, Ford on the other hand bent over backwards and dropped their pants, through in extra's and have been spot on with looking after the car for the 3 years servicing and after warranty care.

The Ranger has been all over Thailand, cost me nothing outside of a tyre & battery change, excluding oil changes and a recent intake hose. Still drives like new vehicle with 144,000 klicks, might upgrade when this stock market sorts itself....lol

In all fairness, if they did allow or force them (car company) into repaying that 50% then it would open the flood gates to anyone buying something that went down in price in a sale the following week and all hotels would have to publish a 'cheapest sold room price' list for guests to claim back the difference.

D'uh... IF it was FREE, you wouldn't be buying it.

I wouldn't buy it for one satang.

You should tell her if they gave it for free how could she buy it?

The first line in this post sums everything up nicely.

Buyer beware.

There is no case for compensation here.

selling off stock at 50% discount will affect later used car sales price "down the road", and resale value is a consideration when buying a car, for some people anyway.

The analogy to "buy 1 get 1" re toilet paper sounds good til you dig into it. No one buys used toilet paper. Well, I hope no one...

more of the "me, me, me" attitude on display here. no wrongdoing on chevy's part (except for the crappy money-pits they sell as vehicles), so these "proud" owners will just have to suck it up.

Bwahahahahahahaha, these fools owe me a new keyboard cause I just spat coffee all over this one !!

Blind freddy could see this coming months and months ago, and yet they still purchased the vehicles.

Always finding something to get outraged about. Must be a cultural thing.

Actually, these trucks are still overpriced including the 50% discount - unreliable and poorly built in Rayong. Next time chose a Toyota.

Do you really buy one when they give to you for free?

might want re-think what you put to paper...
