jesimps Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Wonderful! By the way the OP is wrong, Songran in the Pattaya area lasts for at least 10 days normally. The attitude here is "It must be Songkran somewhere in Thailand, so let's go chuck some dirty water about".

Easier said than done. Well why not ? Prayut stopped the passenger vans driving like maniacs didn't he? He told them not to!????
shackleton Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Wont be holding my breath but brilliant news in stopping some of these Activities over Songkran Will see nearer the time if its enforced
Popular Post newnative Posted March 7, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 7, 2020 Finally some sanity. I, for one, am happy that it will be celebrated more like it used to be--instead of an out-of-control one week public brawl. 3
Krataiboy Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I would have thought there was more chance of catching the virus in a crowded temple than in the open air. 1 1

There aren't any poor prostitutes working in gogo bars. I wish I had their monthly income. Taking a hit currently due to the abscence of the 2 week millionaire Koreans. 1

Oh them poor girls being exploited ......... my rear end ! 1 2

Head lady replied, 'No, the virus is not allowed to come inside schools! 1
DrTuner Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I think the fact that the reservoirs will likely run out of water before songkran will do more than any cancellations. https://www.thaiwater.net/v3/

denby45 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Changing it to throwing alcohol would solve the problem. Den
spidermike007 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 They have canceled it on Samui too. Probably a good idea. Now the South by SW Music Festival in Austin, Texas and the large annual Music event in Miami have been cancelled. This is big. It is not so much the reality, as it is the perception, the fear and the panic. The numbers are swelling in the US, at least partly due to an astonishing lack of preparation for this. So far, the highest mortality rate on earth. 17 deaths from just 335 cases. Says alot about both US health care and the administration's insistence on politicizing this.
Scott Tracy Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 But religious ceremonies and merit making's ok.
Bell1234 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 It is not cancelled.. The mayor said it is unforcable to prevent ppl playing with water.. So it will still be hapoening eveeywhere.. It's funny how they can close all bars for Holidays but can't stoo them turning on their watee.

BusyB Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Who knows ... a return to Buddhist roots and rituals might even encourage tourism .. as long as the water wars are kept to certain venues like KSR etc. Had it once in Pattaya 15 years ago, that was quite enough. Fun to start with but by day 4 it's worn off - getting a bit boring not being able to go out without constantly getting water dumped on you. 1
skorp13 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 555 Like the Thai's aren't going to throw any water on Songkran! They would do it 365 if they could 1
JackGats Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 If someone throw water at me I hug them and cough in their face.
