The problems with this are literally endless, and they hope to implement it within a few days ????. I wonder if anyone there perhaps brought up the potential issues such as -

 

1. Some people won't have a phone

2. Phone may have no battery

3. Phones without a data plan

4. People not understanding the languages and therefore unable to fill in correctly

5. Extra staff needed to assist with this

6. People just switching off their phone or data once they leave the airport

7. Problems logging in to the airport wifi

8. Problems installing the app

9. People with a phone but not a smartphone 

 

I typed those up in about two minutes of thinking.

Yes I am one of those who does not have a smart phone or any sort of portable phone. Does that mean I can't enter Thailand. Just another obstacle to make entering Thailand more difficult. Well as I've said before Vietnam and Cambodia are better value and more welcoming.

This has not been implemented yet.  I just arrived Suvarnabhumi this morning (Thursday 12 March) at 6am from the US via London. I did not have to fill out any extra forms and my temperature was not checked until I headed to my domestic flight.  

Considering the continuing problems with other apps designed for Immigration use, this one is doomed from the start.

 

Is this required in addition to the Arrival Card and duplicates the data?

Add in people simply delete the app afterwards, then people with work phones typically IT departments of companies dont let you download apps. Is it available on Apple  App Store for all locations - many people have different Apple accounts I have a USA apple account hence cant download apps from Australian store unless I change accounts and lose everything from my USA account.

My sense is that any app could be used as an alternative to the current analog (T.8) option.

 

Using the app is NOT REQUIRED.

 

Providing the information IS REQUIRED, or may be (know someone who arrived early AM today, via DOH, no health screening, no forms as DOH is not on one of the two lists of (Danger Zones").

 

It's a bit like the TM.6. You can use the blue written form, or (try to) use the app.

The Thai authorities want to track you. All governments want to track and monitor you, if they can. Many citizens willingly allow this by carrying a tracking device (smartphone) and their privacy has long been given up.

 

This app and the thinking behind it, is simply a logical extension of the above.

 

Won't work for all the reasons that other posters have outlined, not least that there are a large number of people who do not carry smartphones. I'm quite sure that they would issue non phone carriers with other tracking devices if only they had them available.

 

This is the direction the world is headed and the virus is a perfect excuse to hasten the process "for our protection".

Luckily so few passengers are arriving as it sounds like this process is going to take forever.

I see flaws in this plan. The major one is not everyone has a smart phone. Second flaw is not everyone has data plan on arrival. Third, not everyone has the room on their phone for a big brother app such as this. Etc, etc, etc.

The usual nonsense. This is the result of an incompetent government and administration.

 

Tomorrow it will be recalled.

 

They can't force you to install an app. 

 

Who checks the data anyway?

Immigration never called or emailed me neither they verified any of the data except the residential address for visa application.

 

Thailand once again the laughing stock of the world

If it is not multiple languages, I doubt it will be much use. Standing behind non-English speaking nationalities trying to explain something to immigration is painful enough ... now this. Good luck.

The voices inside my head say the same thing, espescially when I have to replace my headwear.

 

They may "want" to track you, but in reality? Maybe they want to be able to "find" you? Tracking someone, via their phone, in real-time is probably impossible here.

 

They're more interested in tracking their own pesky citizens who may be up to no good.

I for one neither have a "smartphone", nor will I buy one.  There are enough idiots who just play on them everywhere they go and many cause problems, and even accidents/collisions while driving or walking across streets, usually not even being on a crosswalk, because they do not pay attention to their surrounding environment.  In Canada I use an electric tricycle due to being handicapped and sometimes I must use the sidewalk.  My progress is invariably delayed due to people having an ear stuck to the phone or they are perusing something that could be left until later.  Also, while riding on the street many a time people just step out without paying attention then get upset when they nearly get hit.

and flight crews?? are they required to download as well?? especially the middle eastern airlines that have multi national crews flying all over the world? How are they going to track which country they previously visited etc?
