Pattaya: Desperate times mean desperate measures - heavily armed "proactive" police protecting businesses

Daily News reported that the Pattaya police are not trusting criminals.

They are doing something that they have often been criticized for not doing in the past - being proactive in protecting the public and helping to reduce the threat of crime.

Desperate economic times as the Covid-19 crisis widens means thieves might become increasingly desperate, reported the media.

The resort's force are particularly worried about increase in snatch theft and robbery.

Pattaya's chief Pol Col Khemmarin Phisamai sent out his men to convenience stores, gold shops, gas stations, banks and the sites of ATMs.

In a 7-Eleven officers with automatic weapons were present as a briefing was given to staff about what to do if a robbery occurred. Staff should inform officers immediately and note getaway vehicles and routes taken by the thieves.

They should also check that their CCTV was fully functioning.

Similar briefings were done at gas stations.

77kaoded carried a similar report with an ominous picture of heavily armed police outside a convenience store earlier this morning.

So the moron sends them out with assault rifles, just how dumb is he – sorry that was rhetorical

In the Philippines Almost every security guard is packing at least a shotgun, and often much more. When you got to convenience store there, you always see armed guard(s) in the front of the store

Initially I thought the automatic weapons were a little excessive. Then again, this is gun-totting Thailand - who knows what the perps may pack, right? So yes, just about right with the big guns. Stay safe all.

Well, it certainly will be difficult for groups of males from certain countries to congregate outside that 7-11.

Why not make it a permanent feature.

Sure to boost tourism. Can just imagine the new TAT ads.

Going to get scary later on when these officers hit the Lao Khao ...

I guess that "lone gunman" at the 7/11 got people spooked.

It's the same group of people at the two locations.

All done for show.

I saw some guys dress up in Hazmat suits. Did a little spraying on the pavement while someone took videos and photos. Five minutes later took off the suits, threw them into the back of the car and drove away (maybe to the next video shoot).

Seems to work well there, armed robberies are fairly rare.

Probably a wise decision. With no work, no income, no food, the proverbial will be hitting the fan soon.

Though you have to wonder if the best decision to end hunger in Thailand is to shoot the ppr and needy

Where are they when u need one?? At the local massage shop?

Reminds me of the PI. Armed guards (shotguns) in every shop, bank, etc.

Maybe better to give poor people money so they don't starve. Girls have told me they can't get the 5k a month, i think they need to have an official job already

And overnight, Thailand becomes the Philippines!

What is the definition of the hackneyed phrase 'heavily armed' Do they have howitzers on their backs?

There is no way they can know that. Thais cannot try to claim until 8am in the morning 28th March, anything being said at the moment is pure rumour.

Well at least the armed guards are showing a good example by keeping safe distances apart.

I don't know the detail, i just passed the story onto some girls and lets say they weren't optimistic, one said she couldn't get it, hopefully they will be able to

Agree,it 's not just working girls what about street vendors and a myriad of other thai's who have no offcial job.

Sawn off shotguns are the norm at gold shops in KL>

The looting is of course going to get worse.

One lady in Saraburi already has had a lot of her stored tin food taken at knife point

Shouldn't businesses be paying for their own armed security guard?

Yes the final solution - shoot the starving and remove those problems....????

Pattaya's most famous perps, the thieving ladyboys, usually only pack small meat and 2 veg!

Now no helmet revenue has been greatly reduce maybe they are thinking some cash for noodles could be on under the table????
