Ok so that's the tracing strategy? "Please come forward if you think you met this dude"?

No problem. Everyone knows how an Egyptian walks.

  • Same as with the american ambassador last week, some are getting a free pass and endanger a whole country. Irresponsible.

  • Agree. The virus doesn't care if you're an ambassador, a soldier, a VIP or some Hiso. The rules must apply to all if they are to be effective.

Absolute DISGRACE.!!
One can only imagine how the Thai nationals in quarantine, and the expats banned from coming back to their homes and families, feel about the double standards imposed by this Govt.
So short stay foreigners and consular families are immune to COVID19????
After all the tough decisions and hard work by the Thai Govt to keep Thailand safe from this virus, is now brought undone by a few stupid and ill considered decisions..
How disappointed we should all feel..

Has there been any progress whatsoever in the tracking front besides the useless thaichana? Do they have a task force for manual tracking? Did they use the time bought by extremely expensive lockdowns for anything? Testing capability?

Forget the Thaichana. Had to go to 3 shopping malls in Chiang Mai on Sunday.
Staff at the entrances playing on their phones, nobody is registering wether by app nor in the book.
I asked one staff how to use the app, his answer: Is BS only, must not do.

Egypt. Military superpower. Important one day mission to China. Dare not refuse them entry for a jolly replenishment stop.

In gods name why not?

Maybe because all visitors to the shopping mall have already been contacted via the Thaichana app.

So this is why they have been worried about a second wave. Secret squirrels travelling in and out of the country !!

More like a Butt Nutt if an Egyptian soldier.

Well well well , we were going to go on a 10 tour down to Pattaya etc etc starting next week but the Mrs has got wind of this story and thats it all plans on stop, she like many thais are paranoid about Cv19 and this maybe why the infection rate has been low compared to others, why must there be this hi-so attitude in Los, if my other  halves  attitude to this is typical this will set it all back a bit, maybe ask some  of the health spa's in the vicinity if they recieved an Egyption heavily laden with shopping bags.

It would of course help if they showed a picture of the person in question ..............!!!!

I know this is Thailand, but people still have some rights.

The issue is not that important when important people are involved......

Maybe one day all the fools and all the fooled will find out how many cases there really are in the land of no smiles!

If 2 weeks quarantine does not apply to military men then just keep them at military base and do not let them to go for shopping !!!!! ????

Army denies responsibility?

Wouldn't expect anything else. The Army knew the where coming and knew about the Special Free Pass to come into Los They knew that some went to China and back to Los.

Knowing all this For me it's the Same as when they Allowed the Boxing to go ahead when they were told No to.

An Other one thinks that he's above the Law and that Denying will Fix it .

Now they're looking for a Scapegoat I bet.

What is the point of a 14 day compulsory quarantine that is only compulsory for some?? Who made the decisions to let Egyptian soldiers in when they had been staying in many other countries?? This or these decisions were most unwise and endanger lives and allow others to take little notice of quarantine laws !!

Who allowed this stupidity? Someone in The Ministry of Heath and Xenophobia maybe?

It would help somewhat if they published the names of the hotel, shopping centre and 'other' venues plus the times that these people visited. Have not seen these details published.

(We live in Rayong city and wife claims to know the name of hotel, shopping centre and one other establishment and she is usually right about these things, but will not state here )

Many questions left open

1) I had to install an app on arrival in March to chase where I go. App is still on my mobile. Not sure that it stop chasing

2) At every public place, Mall etc I have to sign in and out for enter the venue

3) Why could they stay in a normal hotel without quarantine? What make this group so VIP, even that they had a trip history through high risk countries?

4) Why have to ask people who might met this guy without knowing the face?

5) Was this the only one of the group of 30 who went out?

6) Are there no faster test available, at least for those VIP which get so much more freedom than the rest of Thailand?

7) Who will be responsible if Rayong become a new hot spot?

I really accept every rule from the government and hope for Thailand to grow up again from that crisis, but this looks for me of a total mismanagement which make me not only sad, but scare.

They won't even tell the people which venues they visited so they're not exactly being transparent!
Now all the Hotels and Shopping Malls have to deny one by one they visited them otherwise people won't go.
From what I understand there's also no quarantine Hotels in Rayong?
They arrived Wednesday and tested Positive Sunday so that's 5 days did they wonder around for 5 days?
Seems there's a big cover up and pass the buck Job going on.

Again everything is relative. Perspective is key. Fewer people have died from this than die on a daily basis from road deaths each and every day here.

Knee jerk nonsense

"the army have nothing to do with this, stop spreading fake news that hurts the army in thailand"

Was one of the news items somewhere.

It shows how utterly stupid and daft the government is here, maybe Anutin wants to chime in today and blame someone from the west instead of the muslims or his own badly organised country ?

And yes, lets get real , more people die per day here on the roads than the entire covid "crisis" combined.

For the first one, many, second one, a few, third one, nobody cares. That's how it works in Thailand, complacency kicks in fast and vicious.

Fast  & furious complacency

trying to wait the virus out with a lockdown

Enforcing the untenable belief in technology on people & the Virus

95% of the population are asymtomatic of the virus ( its a virulent cold )

Protect the elderly and quaratine the people with co-morbidities

Open up everywhere and let the virus take its course through the population , its the only wsy

It is what has been noticed by myself and quite a few others in the way folks have reacted to the Daily reports if no domestic cases. Complacency has crept in and then complacency can become a bad habit and a attitude of who the f cares....causing major problems

I see this story from a different angle.
It has never taken place the way it is portrayed here, it is staged for one purpose: To scare Thai people and find a reason to extend the emergency decree. Staying in power is the main goal, no matter what tools it takes to achieve that.

Do you really think if true they would disclose the results of the Covid-19 test? No way - it would never have found the way to the media, unless it suits a purpose.

I think there are thousands, maybe millions of undetected Covid-19 cases in Thailand. The symptoms were just not severe enough  for whatever,  still unknown reason.

The Burmese migrants with Covid-19 antibodies just support my theory.

"

What has especially caused concern is the third case – of an asymptomatic 43-year-old male Egyptian soldier, who travelled with a military crew to Thailand on July 8. He was found positive yesterday. He and his group travelled from Cairo to the United Arab Emirates (July 6), then to Pakistan (July 7) and Thailand (July 8). He and the crew reportedly visited a Rayong shopping and community area.

They left their hotel on July 9 and travelled to China on an unspecified military mission via U-Tapao Airport. They returned to Thailand the same day. On July 10, the crew of 31 got tested."

Five countries in five days, a lot of time spent in confined spaces with fellow soldiers. A textbook potential super spreader.

That kind of itinerary, in times of COVID-19, is utterly dumb and reckless.

With all the suffering Thai people experienced to keep this bubble safe, it is absolutely unbelievable that such stupidity could happen, which can reverse results of 4 months of suffering overnight.

There were rules set. They applied to everyone. These people should never have been allowed out of their rooms, and stay in quarantine, yet they were wandering around Dvaree, Laemthong and Central Rayong with no protection, infecting locals and visitors to the province on the last weekend.

Whoever gave them exception and let them out, especially after coming from hotspots Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan where infections are completely out of control, should not only be sacked but held criminally liable for this unbelievable lack of judgement.

1.5 million Twitter posts, with many/most using a middle finger or 4 letter word that starts with F and ends with K, which would be replaced by <deleted> on this forum speaks to the mood of people after hearing of it, and of the level of acceptance of explanation by the military.
