Anyone else got a cold/flu?

Featured Replies

Not sure if it's because all of the wet weather, but I'm definitely coming down with something, a cold or flu from the current symptoms. Can't remember the last time I had a cold, a couple of years at least. Can only put it down the constant dampness. Anyone else have the same problem?

Except there isn't supposed to be covid here except new arrivals in quarantine, but having said that I wouldn't be surprised if there was an outbreak cluster detected too late. what mad person would go for testing

if there is any doubt, there is no doubt.

What's the harm in getting tested?

8k damage to your wallet. I've had a sore throat, chest infection and really snotty nose for the last few days. Caught it from the little lad next door. Now my son's got it. Definitely a bug going round Pattaya......and its not Covid.

Happy to stand corrected, but some months ago, wasn't it reported on TV that the test was free, or the treatment was free?

I know a bar owner who got tested three times, earlier on, at different hospitals, had to pay for all three because they all came out negative.

If treatment is free, why would they require $100K of insurance?  The responsible, civic minded thing to do is to get tested.   But in the current environment?  Even if testing is free, the consequences of testing positive are pretty much a 100% certainty.  While the odds of being vulnerable or even symptomatic are much lower.   I can't imagine them letting a patient testing positive go back home to recover, regardless.

Maybe because I said in my post, "some months ago" before the 100k insurance was even thought of.

I have had the cough, the sniffles and lots of sneezing.  I put mine down to seasonal allergies.  Can't have the flu, I got the flu shot earlier in the summer.  Won't go to a hospital or a clinic as it is not debilitating.

I've had it for exactly a week.  Seems to be starting to break a bit...coughing, sneezing, strangely snotty nose, sinus' a mess.  Coughed and sneezed so intensely a few times, I thought I gave myself a hernia.

Opened the door to a six foot cockroach the other night, punched me in the face and called me a fat <deleted>,  there's definitely a nasty bug going round..

It would help if you weren't too worried, totally average this time of the year. I had a similar feeling of getting sick on Friday, right after work.

But that didn't get worse, and a night of good sleep and all symptoms of a cold were gone. Get well, soon!

This is a problem. More and more often I hear people coughing. If they get fever too it will be more complicated to find those with Covid. Imagine the chaos at the temperature checks.

Shows masks don't work well if this cough and cold is going around. BTW sneezing and sniffles isn't a symptom of Covid

Not in Thailand if figures are to be believed.

Just because they are both viral certainly does not mean you are as likely to catch one as the other. Prevalence is a factor.

OP. In Thailand the rainy season is also regarded as the flu season so likely the case, although Covid preventing measures should keep it down this year.

Think about that for one minute.  A person has a mask on coughs and sneezes, lifts there mask up to wipe there nose and mouth, puts the mask back down but then touches everything around them which is then touched by others who have not or do not use the hand sanitizer, and they in turn lift there mask and rub there eyes or there noses, or even better put a morsel of food in there mouths.  Easy for it to spread.  A mask does work if your sneezing or coughing and others have a mask on as well and then they never touch what you touched.  But this time of year our children also become petri dishes and bring stuff home from school, or where they are let loose to play.  Allergies, such as Hay fever can also give you symptoms that may or may not resemble Covid.  So think hard next time you want to say that sneezing and sniffles is not a symptom,  a runny nose from a fever can cause you to have the sniffles, as well as sneezing.

Yes, it was reported that you could have a free test (but not treatment) if you use Thaichana track and trace and you're identified a suspected contact.

One cheap way to tell if you've got C19 rather than a cold or the flu is to check your blood oxygen level with an oximeter. I bought one back in April when the doctors realised that a sharp drop in blood oxygen is a sure sign of C19, and in asymptomatic patients it is often the only sign without a test. The authorities in the UK are planning on using these during the winter as they will still be unable to carry out enough tests to check everybody.

BTW, if you do catch a viral infection then you should improve your hygiene protocols as you and/or your family are not wearing masks properly or washing your hands enough. Australia's flu season this year was almost a non-event due to social distancing and the hygienic habits that many people have adopted , if the sensible precautions that the authorities urge on us will prevent C19 then they'll also stop the viruses that cause the common cold and flu.

How do you figure masks don't work well. Bit bias, but then again many covid deniers are.

Masks don't mean no flu, would mean less flu. So i take it you collected nice sample size and can compare the years so you can actually back your B.S up ?

I have to see blood usually before I see a doc.  I have serious case of man-up-itis.

I would rather inject myself bleach, and take the unnecessary supplements that are being touted before I would try a vaccine that has not been truly clinically trialed to completion.
