Thai couple print money - and change it into real cash after using top-up terminals

Police in Nakhon Sawan in north/central Thailand have announced the arrest of a young Thai couple who bought a printer and printed more than 60,000 baht in 100s and 500s.

Nattaphong, 27, and Sasinpha, 21, were nabbed at a house in Thung Thong sub-district.

Taken into evidence were a fake 500 baht bill, 609 counterfeit 100 baht bills, a printer, a pink and white Honda Dream, two phones, and a Kasikorn bank account book in the husband's name containing 154,000 baht.

The case came to light after a company called Ban Telecom (2005) reported that many of their clients had been defrauded by the couple who were using "Bun Term" terminals for online phone credit.

The company admitted to police that some of their machines had a problem with sensors and were able to accept fake notes. The top-ups were then transferred by the couple to their bank account and turned into real money.

Natthapong and Sasinpha said they learned how to counterfeit money on Tik Tok, said provincial police deputy Pol Col Narongsak Phromtha.

They invested in a printer and scanned a real note in and started printing money.

It was not 100% perfect but it did the trick. They admitted to doing it 62 times for a total of 60,900 baht using the money for household expenses and trips.

They would travel all over the province looking for Bun Term terminals and were caught after CCTV was examined.

They are now in custody for counterfeiting and theft.

graduates of Tik Tok University? You would think they would be harder to catch.

Perhaps the flaw above is 'in the 21st century'?

It's a good question. I have no idea either. Googling the phrase only turned up pictures of bun mee noodles or sweet buns.

Does anyone have a photo of one?

What kind of ATM accepts photo-copied bank notes....what kind of security measures the bank provides...

Now, some wise people in special coloured uniforms will go big in.

They buy a professional printer and start to print 8000Baht notes. (they don't exist yet but it may work).

Give it a go.

Soon available on Zalada(????) and Halibarba.

Comes directly from the country were everything is copied. No worries, no questions asked.

The lady of the night.

Give her a 5000Baht bank note as a tip.

60k in notes, and 65k for color ink.

I'm not a criminal mastermind, but wouldn't it be better to overnight bus it to a province far far away with a bag of difference clothes etc and use small local buses to travel around to the machines. Then get a few different buses home avoiding big stations if possible.

inspector Clouseau on the case.

That's a new business idea.

All farangs coming back to Thailand, straight into quarantine, no chance to go to an ATM.

Get in touch with this "creative" entrepreneur. He brings you the money you need. Just hand over your $$:/£/EUR etc.

I don’t know which of those two paragraphs makes me laugh more.

Nice to have some end of year humour.

They are now. They were originally in white, until they were caught and both suffered a 'medical emergency', but were unable to get to a toilet in time.

Sounds like you have this all mapped out.

All you need is printer and a bag of fake beards and you're away.

Tik Tok has a lot to offer it seems.

Normally will any new copy/printer refuse to copy any money bills, and if you are trying more than 3 times it will lock, and can only be restored by a technician, and it is amazing that the vendor machine is accepting the counterfeit notes.
