The northeastern province of Buriram has become the first province in Thailand to mandate COVID-19 vaccination for all individuals aged 18 and older, with possible penalties as high as two years in prison and a maximum of 60,000 Baht.

Buriram Governor Thatchakorn Hatthathayakul urged every individual, aged 18 or more, living or working in Buriram, to submit their COVID-19 risk assessment form and apply for vaccination through the publicly available channels by May 31st.

The channels include door-to-door approach by public health volunteers, online registration or personal visits to hospitals or health offices in the province. Failure to apply by May 31st is liable to one month in prison and/or a fine of 10,000 Baht.

Maybe we could flip this and insist if the Governor can't provide vaccinations for all those who sign up, he goes to jail until he can.

  • This is one step beyond and a massive violation of human rights     First they say no choice on vaccine now they are going to jail people that refuse   It would appear this is

  • Where you will with utmost certainty get covid.   Genius

Would be surprised if they had the vaccine available for 5% of their population.

Insanity and utterly ridiculous when vaccines are not available for all people who may need them.  Sorry sir you get to go to jail because you did not sign up to be vaccinated and you broke the law

Same penalties as an Ecig seller the crime must be serious ????

The irony not lost on the fact that for all intents and purposes there are no vaccines.

Actually, this is pretty insane. It appears you are breaking the law for merely not signing up. Pretty ignorant.

I once again am left wondering if this is codified law or just some government mafioso bringing damnation.

They don't need to fine or punish. Offer incentives. Maybe free lottery tickets.

Expect a catch22 for foreigners soon, you must present proof of vaccination to make extension/90d report while there's no vaccin for foreigners.

Another officially stamped brainwave from Anutin:

"Anutin backed Buriram for making Covid vaccines compulsory for high-risk groups with a fine of up to 40,000 baht and a jail term of up to two years."

Oddly enough in Laos it's 'dirty Thais' getting the blame for COVID spreading.

Always interesting to see which groups of people countries use as scapegoats.

Governor of Buriram definitely deserves 'Provincial Satrap of the Year' title.

Now no medical contra-indications matter! Only satrap's orders have power. ????

In any developed country, these provincial satraps will be sent to court immediately after declaring such nonsense. But not in Thailand - people knee down and follow (or softly ignore, on their own risk).

It would appear this is because many Thais are refusing to accept the sinovac chinese vaccine so now they are going to force it on people

Lelak! Lelak! All part of warming up for action.

In my family village in south Surin most people are very reluctant to get the jab. Like many Usofans they hear the reasons why not rather than the reasons for.

I sort-of agree with them.

Excellent. Refuse. Go to jail. Get covid in jail. Brilliant. Empty headed fools running the whole show here. Before covid I had always been astounded by the stupidity of those in power. Now? Well what's there to say other than the whole buy your way to power with an absolutely vacuous brain is on show for all to see.

Pretty harsh. I've heard in Australia it's four years for heroin smuggling.

That answers the question of which vaccine Buriram will use.

I also think today's bad man farang must wait came from Anutin's camp.

My wife's family is from Buriram. Pretty much everyone in amphur Phutthaisong is an inlaw of some sort.

My wife just said quite a few relatives are scheduled for vaccination tomorrow. I saw a registration sheet and ticket number sent by one. Everyone seemed pretty relaxed in the pictures.

Certainly not for 90 day reporting. For extension, hopefully never, but perhaps next year.

I'm kinda confused, first we had a bunch or foreingers complaining they couldn't get a vaccine, now we have a bunch of foreigners complaining they will be forced to have one. ????

  • Popular Post

A massive infringement of human rights by an increasingly draconian and totalitarian government.

Can you sue for human rights breaches in the human rights court?

I'm not aware of there being mandatory vaccination in Thailand. This sets a dangerous precedent.

Being given equal access to choose to take a vaccine and being forced to take a vaccine are two different issues right?

Well I blamed the Chinese for the first wave.

This new B117 variant, I wonder who?

Clever way and very well timed announcement from the Governor.

Either get vaccinated or go to a covid riddled prison.

That will sort the anti vaxxers out.
