Question is, where will all those infected inmates go for treatment?

Most are asymptomatic.

Don't disagree with your points but even with the current Thai spike there is still not the slightest similarity to peak UK levels of infection.

I never said it's as bad here,  it's just when there are clusters in the local

Lotus shopping Mall, and wet market, less than 500 meters away ,the infections

are getting closer.and if the Government does not speed up vaccinating people

it's going to get worse ,not better,  I am 75 so i don't want Covid .

I imagine they will continue with their current treatment regimen.....left to rot in prison, uncared for. But at least they are now counted.

Who told you that?

UPDATE: #Thailand’s economy shrunk by 2.6% in Q1 of 2021. While it is an improvement from previous quarters (Q2/20 -12.1%, Q3 -6.4%, Q4 -4.2%) this quarter does not reflect the current and severe #COVID19 wave. That’s in Q2/21.

Begs the question of how you know that to be a fact Danderman. You may well be right, but afaik, no breakdown of the prison infections has been released, nor any information on deaths. Presumably there must be SOME who aren’t asymptomatic.

This is going to sting....what will the baht do is the bigger question and will inflation be seen coming up without any stimulus for the people here.

Why did Bangkok (a dark red zone) open "dine-in" for restaurants starting today with so many positive cases?  Yes, I know that people are limited (25% of capacity I believe), but still ...

In Chiang Mai where cases have dropped daily and CM being put in the Orange zone, yet only restaurants get to open for dine-in service today.  It seems gyms (possibly limiting people) and swimming pools can open if CM is in Orange zone.

To get into Phuket you must have a Neg Covid test (within 72 hrs) to show from today on.  The rapid tests were stopped yesterday ...

Which posters were saying this wave has been contained? Obviously that is complete nonsense.

Apart from the prison system, and clusters in Bangkok, this wave is receding.

if you disagree, please post where the wave is increasing, outside of the places I just mentioned.

Remarkably over 50% of inmates in Chiang Mai have it!

Are the numbers going up daily since it seems the prison cluster was only reported once ...

Just YouTube Thailand prison. Its wall to wall people locked in over crowded cells. Don't know how they fix this problem. Mask dont help when you have someone sleeping on top of you 10 hours a day

Guess the old saying of "Go big or go home" is in your belief system for cases receding.  What will be will be is General Prayuts motto.  I am somewhere in between in my view of "How long is a piece of string" when it comes to my view of cases.  Test more find more, test like they are in the prisons outside in the provinces and we'll "I'm your Huckleberry".  Stay safe.

6000 cases of infection in prison.
2000 cases of infection throughout the country.

Hard to believe these numbers.

it would be very hard not to imagine that all inmates in prisons either

- have had it

- have it

- died from it

These prisons are very crowded compacted places, a highly infectious virus would run rampant in there, I don't think it unreasonable to assume everyone locked up in there falls into one of the above 3 categories

I believe it likely the numbers we are seeing reported from prisons are severely limited by testing capacity

An interesting point someone made earlier about Temples, infection clusters are very specific to places were large numbers of people gather - factories - markets - entertainment venues - public transport - prisons and very likely temples

outside of prison infections, the wave peaked about 2 weeks ago. It’s possible that mass testing in clusters will generate a new peak, but it’s obvious that growth of the epidemic is not exponential.

Well as we know the people don't count generally. It is the big business owners and others who will be looked after . With the baht continuing to weaken, certainly against the GBP, I would anticipate that this will continue while the UK recovers .  Stimulus for the people ? well if they say giving 7000 baht to a family over 5 months a stimulus then nothing will change as that 7000 baht will go back to the persons who they look after, the CP/7/11/Makro/Big C/Central owners etc etc. The Ma and Pa  stores will benefit to some degree although last time around here it was common practice for the recipients to go to the Ma and Pa stores, receive their cash less 20% - Now that was of more help to the poor imho

You lost my context ... I was responding to CM numbers (which are going down) and CM prison numbers.

That's right everyone knows they've been sweeping it under the bed!
