Thailand on Thursday (June 10) reported 2,310 new COVID-19 cases and 43 additional deaths.

 

● 2,208 new infections

● 102 prison / prison infections

 

Thursday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 187,538 with 1,375 deaths.

 

The news comes as tourism-reliant Thailand expects about three million foreign tourist arrivals this year, tied to a phased reopening to vaccinated visitors later this year.

I doubt they'll open for vaccinated tourists this year. It will be postponed and postponed again. 

Chonburi can't seem to shake of the virus. 2 month in and with less testing.

 

Chonburi Public Health Office has just announced that they have 81 new cases. The total new cases so far is now 5,200. Most cases are in Si Racha (47) and Chonburi City (16). So far, 4,287 have been discharged leaving 883 remaining in care

Do they display/state how many tests they are performing daily?

Don't need to open. Whist expats working here and those with family may need to return I doubt that many tourists will wish to come to a country where not only their governments have warned against travel, but where it is easy to see that the virus is running amok with no clear signs of it abatting, nor government concerns about understanding true numbers manifested in their sorry state of poor testing numbers

Have to say they, while not doing a perfect job, have seemed to have struck a reasonable balance with this Alpha British strain. 

 

Similar population to the UK but only about 1% of the deaths from this strain compared to the UK which has the advantage of being an island. 

 

No deaths would be ideal, but 43 isn't too bad compared to the worst day in the UK which was 1,800 plus which is worse than the total for the entire time in Thailand. The vast majority of Thais who have succumb were old or overweight.

 

Let's hope they keep the numbers low and have success with the vaccine roll out and things can start getting back to relatively normal again.

No, Phuket has vaccinated a higher percentage of people than my country by far. 

Vaccinated people generally are not tested.

 

The testing numbers are not that important, it is the death numbers. They are doing quite well.

seems to me these daily counts are mostly of those that are reporting with symptoms - the rest of the clusters in prisons and factories are just being quarantined and untested - so the figures reported are not a true relection of actual virus spread - a fudge

Good question and one I wish I had an answer for.  If we look back at the Samut Sakhon lock and seal they did, we never truly were given much information from what was going on inside, just random numbers and testing which did not tell us much.

My Facebook feed is starting to fill up with pictures of friends and family sat in the sunshine in pub gardens in the UK.

 

The last thing they'd want to do is spend thousands of pounds to jump through hoops so they can sit in an aircraft for 12 hours and spend 2 weeks in a country where they can't even have a beer outside their hotel room and most of the tourist orientated places are boarded up.

 

The cherry on the cake is that they face quarantine when they get back to the UK. Who needs that after 15 months of lockdown? No chance...

It seems that might be the case, which would be fantastic news.

 

The date was originally set for May 17 but was changed twice – to June 1 and then June 14 – in a bid to curb Covid-19 from spreading.

“The ministry has tasked all schools to prepare for the reopening and adjust their teaching based on one or more of five approaches to suit the situation in their respective area,” she said.

The five approaches are:

1. On-site: schools offer teaching at their facilities as usual.

2. On-demand: teaching is provided via mobile applications.

3. Online: teaching is provided online via the internet.

4. On-hand: lesson and exercise materials are delivered to students at home.

5. On-air: teaching is provided via satellite TV programmes to students in remote areas.

“Schools that choose the on-site approach must prioritise the safety of students from Covid-19 and provide necessary facilities such as hand-washing stations and spaced seating in classrooms to maintain social distancing,” Treenuch said.

Private school informed yesterday that they are not opening next week and instead, continue home schooling for the remaining weeks until summer holidays.

Chiang Mai had about 4,000 #COVID19 cases in this wave (Apr 1), now it’s just a few per day. It’s a good sign that things are improving in some parts of Thailand - but also that the overwhelming majority of cases are in Bangkok and neighboring provinces (and prisons).

But there are some morons in Thailand who are so arrogant that they think  it is exactly what they should do. Totally lost the plot of reality me thinks

The Governor of Chonburi has signed the order to keep schools closed for on-site learning from 14 June until further notice. He told schools that they have to do a mixture of on air, online, on demand, and on hand. If your school is in the dark red zones it will probably be the same. Schools elsewhere in the country are allowed to open their campuses if they get permission from the local authorities.
