I never see reports on what happens to these people after they are arrested. Are they sent to some prison to get Covid?

Nah, they donate in gratitude for the tea they were given at the station and move on.

I wonder if actual Covid safety was on police minds? Did they test anyone for Covid ? Would it not be the first thing to do ? To decide to isolate them or to bring them to police station and police cells where they can infect others

that would require common sense.

How many Thais and how many foreigners.. no mention about that .. probably more Thais than foreigners. Besides Pattaya want to open for tourists.. this is good for tourism in the sandbox. more jabs and more arrests. How can we kill tourism

The second, bigger place, was on walking street and was full of shisha pipes, so I can guess where those guys were from.

Nope, just a low-season shakedown for that extra revenue in lieu of usual tourist numbers

Yeah.. way to go to get good publicity for Thailand's "sandboxes"...put this on an international news news and see how many so called tourists will rush to book flights to Thailand...

Yes, they do all what they can to repel tourists

Majority in Banglamung (85 at least) are from construction camps which are now sealed off. Do you want severe punishment for them or think they don't care because they are doing their best to earn a meager living?

Well I would say that construction camps are more of a danger than restaurants selling beer, but you could argue that one lot are trying to earn a living, the others are just enjoying themselves.

Statistics show that 70% of farangs have at least 5 drinks a day with some starting in the morning hours.

Only 5? Bloody lightweights.

there are still quite a few younger farangs roaming around Pattaya on extended stays, time they went home and got back to work - the holiday is over folks and so is furlough

Thought they where Digital No-mats....

Well, at least, they were protected. The Pattaya News video of the arrests was something else

Nice earner for the BiB, could be looking between 1 and 2 million baht, and with only 100 people in there, so little chance of an informant being amongst them.  ????

Stopped at my local booze shop this afternoon, about 4pm, for a few wine coolers.

It was outside selling hours, but there was a policeman there in full uniform buying a bottle of Lao Kao.

The local Thai drunks were all sitting around the outside table drinking beers and shots, I bought 7 bottles of wine cooler.

This is on a main road about 500m from the local police station.

Thailand is an odd place!

We talking bars and clubs, not alcoholic groups outside 7-11????

The people that are really being punished here are the bars and restaurants that are not breaking the rules, losing customers and business to those that are prepared to take the risk.    Every business that does take the risk is doing it in a less safe way than they would be if they were allowed to open with sensible restrictions.

Too many people bury their heads in the sand over this and pretend to themselves that if they cannot actually see people having any kind of fun, then covid spreads less.   The reality is that people are still having fun, but in less ventilated, less controlled environments where covid has a greater chance of spreading.   This also affects track and trace as nobody is going to confess to having a party in a bar behind closed doors or a condo room, nor will they have to sign in etc so contacts are never traced.

The virus is simply not scary enough for the vast majority of people who are under 60 and healthy to stop them from socialising with their friends.   Any serious effort to tackle this needs to have support from this group of people, and you do not get that by simpleton thinking that simply closing bars and preventing restaurants from selling alcohol will stop people from gathering with their friends and drinking alcohol.

Once you accept the fact that people who are not scared of the virus will continue to socialise regardless of rules, then you can start to think about making policies that allow people to do so in a safer and more controlled way.

Thailand sounds like the place to be !!   Not !!

Last year Pattaya / Thailand was mostly partying, while many other countries around the world were in very harsh and lengthy lock downs.

The shoe is on the other foot now.

Let us not forget that the Police as a whole must be hurting. Was there not, in pre Covid days, a daily courier run, with several millions of Baht in cash, to Bangkok from Pattaya? I seem to recall a passing embarrassment one day when the couriers turned right instead of left and made it over the border into Cambodia?

I think the restaurants, bars and the people who work in them are just trying to make a living too.

They are going to extort the maximum out of these farang.  So unnecessary, when apps can be used to meet new Thai friends.  ????
