Less than one week after the French Embassy in Bangkok announced plans to vaccinate its nationals aged over 55 in Thailand, French expats began receiving the vaccine on Saturday (June 27).

Photographs shared on the Embassy's Facebook page showed French nationals waiting to receive the vaccine at Bangkok Hospital.

The French Ambassador, Mr. Thierry Mathou, who described the vaccination campaign implemented by the embassy as “unprecedented”, was on hand to inspect the proceedings.

The vaccination campaign of French nationals in Thailand aged 55 and over was only announced on Monday (June 21) and now the first of those vaccinations have already been administered.

In the original announcement, Mr Mathou said the vaccine given will be the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which has been approved for use in Thailand.

As well as in Bangkok, the French Embassy has said it will also set up vaccination centres at Bangkok Hospitals in Pattaya, Hua Hin, Ko Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Udon Thani.

The vaccines are administered free of charge.

More vaccinations are due to take place today (June 27), the embassy said.

Eligible French nationals can register for the vaccine here.

The news come as the United States last week confirmed it would not be vaccinating its citizens in Thailand.

The United Kingdom and Australian have also said there are no plans to vaccinate its citizens in Thailand.

What the French have proven is that it IS possible for embassies to vaccinate their citizens in Thailand, but other embassies rather give poor excuses than care about their citizens.

I was talking financially feasible. The more people the lower the cost per person the less people the higher.

The UK government would do the same if they could work out a way they could make a tidy profit out of it.

Other countries to their citizens: thanks for your life long tax contribution to the state; now you get lost if you think you are going to vaccinated when retired abroad!

Many of us still pay tax back in our home countries even after we have retired.

Probably the French did it to p$#@ off the Americans. They succeeded.

Personally I didn't pay tax back home since many years and I don't expect that my home country provides any service to me while I am in Thailand.

why just Thailand

I think there is a message in there somewhere

I wish the Aussie government will follow suit, they have no qualms in bringing hundreds of so called "new Aussies" some infected with the Indian variant already, and quarantine them for free while other true Aussies are left behind to fend for themselves...

No reason they couldn't partner up with another country e.g. Belgium.

They could do one step better and allow the Thai wives of their citizens over 55 to get jabbed with a decent vaccine. Then allow the kids next. USA may be falling short here but at least they over in the USA don't discriminate and give it to everyone.

So if one Embassy could do it, how is it that the others couldn't?. No doubt they will say it is not their responsibility, to which I would ask particularly of the British Embassy, what exactly IS your responsibility?

As I understand it the UK has a surplus of vaccines, shouldn't be too hard to organise a shipment to Thailand and send sufficient vaccines to all the major cities for UK expats ??

But they are not interested are they.

Back to my workshop....would you say that France is sticking it to other countries?

What France (and China) are doing is gaining influence. Certainly at the cost of the US and UK.

Hang your heads in shame everyone at the British embassy!

And equally so, "hang your heads in shame everyone at the U.S. embassy"!!!  ????

But then again, the U.S. Embassy folks have all been vaccinated long ago by the U.S. government, so what do they have to worry about?

Equally so for the U.S...  They've got more vaccine doses at this point than people in the domestic U.S. willing to take them....

I have just sent an email to the Prime Minister via the cabinet office, you are allowed a maximum of a 1000 characters, enough to get the point across, I also informed them that the Bangkok hospital group has hospitals in 40 major cities in Thailand & reminded them that they have promised spare vaccines to poorer countries and that we should be included ????

I don't however expect a response, so get on yer keyboards people ????????????????

Credit to the French for doing this.   Shame on you UK for not doing likewise.   many of us still pay taxes in the UK whilst resident here in Thailand.   I for one pay tax on my pension in the UK and also tax on a property that I rent out there.   Very sad that the UK and others aren't falling inline as the French have.

An English version of the French Embassy's vaccine announcement via Google Translate:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fth.ambafrance.org%2FL-ambassade-de-France-met-en-place-une-campagne-de-vaccination-sans-precedent

The French Embassy is setting up an unprecedented vaccination campaign.

"The French Embassy, which has been mobilized since the start of the pandemic, obtained, after long weeks of negotiations, the authorization of the Thai government to set up an unprecedented vaccination campaign throughout the country, in firstly, benefit the most vulnerable people in our community in Thailand....

French nationals aged 55 and over can therefore register online from Wednesday, June 23, 8:00 a.m. to benefit from this vaccination, which is completely free.

The vaccination campaign of the French Embassy in Thailand will take place across the country. Thus, the most vulnerable in the face of this exceptional pandemic will be able to benefit from a vaccine approved in France and Thailand, in a hospital near their home.

The vaccination centers are located in our eight partner hospitals, located throughout the country, respectively in: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Phuket, Khon Kaen, Koh Samui, Udon Thani."

And the UK has dispatched a Navy task force to Thailand who have cavernous hangers to bring vaccines. The Embassy was quick to vaccinate all staff and employees at the Embassy but couldn't care less about it's expats!

I had a semester of French back in high school can I get vaccinate too.
