CHONBURI (NNT) - Pattaya City now aims to reopen Koh Larn off the coast of Chonburi province for international tourism in the near future, before extending the opening to other parts of the city, in line with the government’s 120-day country reopening goal.

The Mayor of Pattaya Sontaya Khunpluem said today the city is in favor of the government’s 120-day country reopening goal.

As a key tourism and economic city, the mayor said Pattaya has been making preparations and an economic and tourism recovery plan, starting with a tourism reopening pilot in Koh Larn off Pattaya’s coast.

To make this ambition possible, the city has launched a vaccination drive for businesses owners and workers on the island, with about 70% of them now vaccinated.

Pattaya City aims to make Koh Larn a ‘green zone’ for tourism, with the beauty of attractions and hospitable accommodation attracting visitors.

Mr Sontaya said the city will need to achieve a balance between the economic restart and public health, while a revival of tourism activities will start first with domestic tourists before the country’s reopening for international visitors in the future.

Wouldn't fancy 14 days on Larn.

From the hordes of people, loud hailers, crowded car parks and constant ferry departures and arrivals, it seems already very much open. What else are they referring to?

or where they will be staying on Koh Larn - has there been a lot of building going on there or are they putting tents up - the place is the size of 3 beaches with little else or room for little else

It will be a green zone, whatever that means......Green as in Marijuana,? or green as in only electric  vehicles ? or green as in no plastic containers ? or green as in , turning the island into a giant nudist colony ?........I am not sure?

The only foreseeable drawback is all prospective tourists must be qualified parachutists as there is no airport on Koh Larn ..................LOL

I can only imagine you have not been there. I had the privilege of living on Kho Larn for many a time. The island has a multitude of beautiful accommodation places. I would recommend it too any traveller.

So international tourists on koh Larn before they will be allowed in Pattaya.

Are they going to build an international airport on koh Larn or just allow visitors from international cruise ships?

All of this with vacine shortage,  and lack of equal vaccination of whos here.  The numbers are still rising (whats reported) and the Delta strain is heree.  Many have had only one dose, which as far as Delta strain goes is like not having any dose.  No way it can work without a compatible vaccine against the nee strain and people getting two doses of it, and the proper time elapsed for it to be effective.  Its just not going to work on Thai time!

There wont be many tourists from Australia where you have to get permission from the govt to leave the country then spend more than $3000 on hotel quarantine when you get back ....

Nah they'll let them fly into Bangkok then use some means of transport to Pattaya...

what could possibly go wrong with that?

They'll only need half of the first one.

The news report that there are about 35,000 Australians waiting to return to the country and that quarantine places are very limited, from an old place for prisoners Australia has not evolved much it seems to me.

Koh Larn is literally 5 ks long and 2 wide, 5.6 square kilometres, no hospital, no immigration, limited crowded transportation.

But then again, I see they have used the word "green" in the announcement, that should make everything ok.

I read that the citizens of dreamland have been fully vaccinated

Speedboat from Pattaya Beach, I was offered one only yesterday.

"Pattaya to pilot Kho Larn reopening" ............ I didn't know there was a qualified pilot in this city.

Meanwhile, back in the real world today, Chonburi province reports 390 new cases, Sattahip 20, Banglamung 46, Sriracha 206 cases, Chonburi city 68 with other places in the province reporting various figures, so let's open up & have a party ????????????

When there is no leadership one tends to do is dream!  Like most dreams they have no foundation it is all a fantasy. ????  It is a total clown show right now.????

Or the North Korea.

After Koh Larn important sight seeing locations for quality tourists in Pattaya like Soi 6, Walking Street, LK Metro, Soi Buakhao and other such places might follow? Perhaps travel bubbles with special shuttle services? Or perhaps enough entertainers will move to Koh Larn? The new island of entertainment? The new tourist attraction for quality tourists?
