So its not 50% of Phuket's total population that has been vaccinated.  The way I read what you posted made it sound like 50% of the total population had been double vaccinated, That is why I made the comment I did.

The MoPH stats say 50% of Phuket's official population number had received two shots as of the 24th...  A larger share of the population had received one shot (all of those who had received two shots plus the other portion that has received only their first shot).

All of those who have received both shots also get counted in the one-shot category, because they too have received at least one shot.  They don't subtract folks from the one-shot group when they end up also getting their second shot.

Isn’t it hard to equate cases you hear about, to the cases announced on a daily basis? I may be wrong, but I thought there was a time lag on everything due to the need to do a second test and process it, before finally adding it to the province total.

I haven’t been following Loei’s numbers very closely, so don’t know whether the 5 were in previous days totals, will be in future days totals, or don’t exist at all.

The way Chonburi does it, they post daily numbers which are published the same day in the national numbers.

The poster yesterday claimed the 5 positive tests in his village in Loei were shown on a hospital board, which was the provincial total. When I asked if the hospital board numbers corresponded to the provincial numbers for Loei that were published nationally, I got gibberish.

You failed to note that the article also said that the beta variant is less transmissible than the alpha or Delta variant. Also that it's the least dangerous of the three.

No I did not fail to notice that, we are limited on the amount of quote we are allowed to put from an article due to fair use policy, the link was provided for all to read the full article, happy you read it all and got to the part you found most important for you

So then that would make it 50% of all folks have both vaccinations and 64% including the 50% have at least one jab, so in realty 14% only have 1 shot making it a total of 64%, and the other 50% have 2, leaving 36% of the population with out any or completely unvaccinated.  Do I have that right then?  So much for reaching 70% of the total population receiving both vaccinations by the time the sandbox opens and yet still no time to actually build up immunities thus making them susceptible to a host of variants and the ability to pass it back onwards to the tourists.  Excellent plan......

Yep... that's what I was trying to convey... with the caveat that those percentages were from a MoPH report that covered thru June 24... So presumably the numbers and percentages have inched up some in the past few days since then.  But nowhere near a 70% fully vaccinated/two shots rate.

Sorry I was a little slow on the uptake, sitting and waiting for a contractor to finish watching the paint dry he painted on the balcony walls three hours ago.  Glad I only paid him for the job and not by the hour.  The man is sitting wearing a fill Tyvek suit outside with a mask and gloves on.  every 15 minutes he walks over and touches a spot, shakes his head and sits back down.  It is only 83% humidity here in BKK....lol.

Stay safe and welcome back from your self imposed hiatus.  The numbers are getting to be quite a source of discussion amongst the GF's friends.  Her second Aunt who is in the hospital was just put on a ventilator today, that's makes 2 of the 3 aunts in critical while the others are in a field hospital including the 2 kids.   Ugly.....

No real decrease in COVID cases, random outbreaks and clusters abound round the country, low vaccination rate, but talks everyday of opening to tourists to save the economy . It boils down to this question:

How many people will be sacrificed for the economy?

If you were a foreign tourist, would you want to come to Thailand now?

What dangers come with Beta, Bangkok’s latest COVID variant?

First detected in South Africa late last year, the Beta variant – also known as B1.351 – blunts the efficacy of most COVID-19 vaccines. In clinical trials, two doses of AstraZeneca vaccine proved to be only 10.4 per cent effective in preventing mild to moderate B1.351 infections.

https://www.thaipbsworld.com/what-dangers-come-with-beta-bangkoks-latest-covid-variant/

With AZ being tested directly with the Beta variant and having just  10.4 per cent effective in preventing mild to moderate. The the only other vaccine available right now in Thailand is Sinovac, all world trials indicate that AZ is more effective than Sinovac so logic would state that Sinovac would be less than 10.4%. This demonstrates just how important it is to contain this variant as soon as possible.

Alpha/Delta will naturally take over as they are more contagious but in the meantime containing it is paramount.

Finally a little sense:

The government has cancelled the special holiday on 27th July meaning that the 5-day long weekend is now a 3-day long weekend. 27th July is a regular work day and then 28th July is a holiday for the king’s birthday

It doubt it will make a lot of difference; Monday 26 is a holiday and, as you say, Wednesday 28 is a holiday.  I can't see many people going to work on Tuesday 27!

Depends if people need to go into work to get paid or take the day off unpaid

All the time was talking 28 day happenings not 29! And was 6 case! Read what was txt before! Even later say "who knows how many case tomorrow"! And when somebody told actual date when people come from BKK! Wake up in day and stop your day dream!

So sad, that the holidays are cut now and will only be added back in later on in the year when it benefits them.

Well oil crashed the day before yesterday because of what's going on in SE asia.

Have some hope, look at India a month ago.  People were dying in lineups trying to get oxygen and there was none.  It's turned around quite a bit and their numbers are down now and manageable, relatively speaking.

Maybe things will turn around in Thailand.  I sure hope so.

Bad news.

However surely tomorrow it will read 5 cases with 4 false positives.

Still not getting the governments overall strategy on this pandemic thing.

It’s like they have some dice they throw down and based on what number comes up, do something to restrict Covid, do nothing and ignore it, or do something to help it spread.

Sorry, just to clarify, Loei had six cases on 28 June, or which 5 were people from Bangkok infected with the delta strain?
