Doing a traceroute to the aseanow.com URL on my computer leads me believe that it is now hosted in Thailand (or somewhere quite close).  Traceroute output:

My traceroute command was correct but my post was not.

Presumably I'm now going to have to completely resave my multitude of Chrome links since automatic redirection from the old Thaivisa site isn't likely to continue forever, of course. Grrrrr!!

Can’t open the new site correctly anymore?
Get the strange basic layout which doesn’t make sense.

It's all in Chinese mate, you need to use Translate.

No

No change has been made to the forum rules.

"26) The Bangkok Post and Phuketwan do not allow quotes from their news articles or other material to appear on ASEANNOW.com. Neither do they allow links to their publications. Posts from members containing quotes from or links to Bangkok Post or Phuketwan publications will be deleted from the forum."

if the servers are based in Hong Kong we will soon know:

"The death toll from the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre was at least 10,000 people, killed by a Chinese army unit whose troops were likened to “primitives”, a secret British diplomatic cable alleged."

I found it easier to read by changing theme bottom of screen next to Contact Us from theme AN-20210521 to Theme Copy of TV 20210323-4-5

I used that , and now the option has been removed and reverted back to the " hard to see " font.

Now I have had some time to digest this new site I have a few questions I would like to ask.

1. Now that the site is seemingly registered outside of Thailand, does that mean that 'Thai law' no longer applies to it and we no longer have to self censor our posts?

(this was answered by CharlieH but posed more questions after the fact. ***Forum rules still apply, no changes other than the name ,as already posted. ** below was my response that still needs answering)...

***Ok, so by this definition ASEAN now will act differently on different sections of the site?

As some countries in ASEAN respect free speech (Japan, Singapore & South Korea for example), will more open discussion be permitted in those sections of the site where free speech is condoned? or does everything still come under the umbrella of Thai law, regardless of where you are posting from?

Confusing to say the least!

2. Will our data be shared with 3rd parties overseas, and if so will we be notified of this, if and when it occurs?

3. Has the site been sold by the previous owners? and if so, who is the new benefactor?
4. Will there be any updates to the forum rules and regulations going forward?

5. Will there be any changes to the way the site is moderated?

(btw, I like the new color code, much better than the previous one!).

Thank you!

Thaivisa member.

Font looks too small and light

First thing I did after fixing my bookmarks was forcing readable fonts/sizes.

As I don't pay for this it's up to you what name you give.

At least no (new) problem found so far. My favorite old style emoticons are still broken.

So nothing to get adapted too.

Throwing away a brand name like this?

All the haters have to get used too.

(I have not opened Twitter yet)

Who cares about my opinion?

Who knows Mondelez? (27 billion USD)

Silly marketing past time to find new names.

Car names like "Ka" to not bother in any language...

Well usernames along with our account data / posts could be linked to an individual via Chinese immigration for example.

I am not planning to visit Hong Kong or China, but I think the users that are should be aware and decide if they want to continue to participate or not.

Thailand is following China tracking ideology....., it all started with the idea of bracelet/tracking devices assumed to be used for Covid....an excuse like any other to cover/divert from the real intentions

Please make the website working on a pc!!!!!!!

I only get the basic non working site layout.

if its not Thai Visa anymore can we still complain about everything that happens in Thailand?

I want answers to this question.

If this website is no longer hosted inside Thailand then why does it have to comply with Thai law??

The Daily Mail (horrible rag that it is) isn't based in Thailand, and therefore does not have to comply with Thai law.

Same goes for any news site and forum that isn't operating out of LOS.

Tessanet Limited is clearly based in Hong Kong, and therefore seemingly HK rules only need apply.

Any clarification would be appreciated.

Dear Lord, please don't let the commie's buy Thai Friendly.

My pixelbook automatically renders all sites, including this one, in dark mode.

I dont care what optomitrists say, my eyes hurt less using dark mode (I do have early cataracts tho).

And it is also a huge battery saver on a phone.

So my question is, how to set the site settings themselves to dark mode?

Is the new font in superfine pale grey intended to censor the complaints.  If we can read the negative posts,  they don't exist.

Taking into consideration that the Thai authorities can block this website from access from within Thailand , I do feel that its in everyones interests to abide by Thai law

ever heard of a VPN?

Do you abide by Thai law when commenting on news articles elsewhere?

Ridiculous thing to say!

Not that ridiculous if you also care about others. The site owner and LOS based mods could get in the proverbial for what BMs post.

Setting up ANY company in Hong Kong, much less a media outlet for all of ASEAN, in 2021 is asking for a world of hurt, did we not just read about the fate of Hong Kong free-press newspaper Apple Daily?

I guess the upper management are cool with the cowed ASEAN way going forward?

What are they thinking?

Also, as the old TVN mods are based in Thailand, of course the government will arrest them under 112 for anything anyone says on here.

One could probably go to the Phillippine site to complain about the unmentionable in LoS, but just don't expect the local users to be very happy at the incursion.

Free speech trumps all!

Our ancestors fought & died in two world wars so we could say that with pride.

Never forget that!

It is all or nothing in Windows10 AFAIK - and I have had to use dark mode/high contrast since they updated software months ago.  Have text in yellow on black background and much easier to read without being blinded by white light.  But have to revert to normal mode for some websites (but easy using ALT/Shift/Print screen keys).  Don't use smart phone so can not advise how to do on them.
