ASEAN NOW New Font (is ruining my eyes '00'] )

I hope whoever is in charge of designing this website is reading this: Yes, you're young/attractive, intelligent, eyes bright like laser, etc. But please have pity on most of us readers on this forum. Soon we'll be blinded trying to glean over your new font. Our grandchildren are roughly your age...Now we can tell them, we don't know whether we'll die of Covid or go blind surfing on Thaivisa, oops sorry, Asean Now (sorry for not all CAPITAL) - whichever comes first.

Thank you OP.

Yes it is <deleted> terrible to read, specially the black bar at the bottom that pops up

when a new reaction comes in,why do you have to click that anyway?

I better shut up now.

Yes, that black bar is like trying to see from the bottom of a swamp. I assumed AN must have combed SE Asia beaches many times over in order to find this top-tier web designer. I hope more would chip in with comments and keep this topic afloat in the hope that the power that be have mercy on us. For now I'm doing my own "optimized" font for the sake of all concerned.

It was able to be fixed by clicking on the "Theme" link at the bottom of the page............but that has disappeared now, SADLY.

yeah... pretty sad when this below is the quickest, easiest temporary circumvent:

I don't have a problem I put those things called eye glasses on.

The black bar goes away in seconds.

I stand firm: the original font is a sick joke.

I have a bookmark folder with 11 sites and open web mail site separate.

None of these is as bad as "AseanNow".

But where there is a will there is a way.

Installed one of many force fonts addons for Firefox and then zoomed to 120% (what I always did).

The addon allows to switch on/off with a single click, so that you can deactivate for other sites.

Of course zoom alone helps a bit but the hair fine font is still an eye sore.

The default (forced) fonts can be changed easily.

The screenshot is with standard font settings for Firefox.

Original in 100% zoom (from my 1920*1080 screen):

Forced fonts, 120% zoom:

The appearance of the screenshots in previous post depends on your browser/view setting of course.

Not easy to give a correct 1:1 impression.

Yes, the skinny, sans serif text font is absolutely the worst font for reading, comparable to the text on a medical prescription label on a tiny bottle. I can't scan posts because I can't read them. Seems counter-productive, doesn't it?

The new, skinny font looks very elegant but because of the low contrast, it is difficult to read.

This line is the same font, same size, but in solid black, ie maximum contrast.

P.S. It makes some difference, but another font with more solid lines would still be more practical.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Shockingly unreadable!

Was no user testing done whatsoever?

It rivals the naming of the car NOVA in Latin America.

This is a test of my new Braille keyboard with voice feedback.

iesus christus!

Is this the new font?

Can't hardly see nuffink, never mind spell correctly.

????

Crazy, how are us old folk expected to read?

Thing is some young computer nerd who did this thinks WOW what a good job i have done.

Absolutely no though given to us old folk, who are the main stay of this forum.

Absolutely, and it's not just the forum designers.

In real-life (yes, I do have one) I deal with user interface (UI) designers on an annoyingly regular basis and it does seem that software engineers have weird eyesight (many of them are just plain weird).

They seem to love skinny fonts in low contrast colours which, when viewed with older (or even not so old) eyes are totally illegible. I've lost count of the number of meetings I've had with UI designers about this, they just never seem to learn. The usual response is "it is in line with the guidelines", my response being "then the guidelines need fixing", "but they are Google guidelines", "so what!" punctuated by a virtual bang on the table (banging my desk in a Zoom meeting just makes my teacup jump).

At least it pays the bills.

An abusive post has been removed.

I have asked management for an update on this issue.

I've been reading Thai Visa since 2004 and have seen many changes in that time.

But this is the worst change that I have encountered  in 17 years as a member and some time as a moderator.

I do hope that this issue can be resolved quickly so I can at least enjoy reading the forum

My eyes ain't what they used to be

Good you are optimistic and think they work.

Well, seems that the font issue has now been resolved. Good news for those of us of a certain age. The promise was 5th July, so well done!!

Indeed althought it's still that horrible font.

We shall see how the bods do fixing the other issues.

I'll close this thread since the original problem is "fixed".
