Netizens and press do the math on PM Prayuth's Covid-19 salary gesture - he had 102 million baht in 2014

Sanook reported that the National Anti-Corruption Commission are not empowered to reveal  Thai prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha's current assets.

 

There was no provision in the law for them to do so.

 

But after the PM - and other cabinet ministers and party leaders - offered to donate their salaries for three months to fight Covid-19, netizens and the media were doing the math and reporting his pre-coup accounts. 

 

Over the next three months he will give up his salary of 75,590 baht and 50,000 baht allowance making a total of 376,770 baht.

 

A good gesture some might say but a drop in the ocean compared to his assets when he assumed the reins of power seven years ago. 

 

His assets in 2014 were reported to be 102,317,152 baht. 

 

Six bank accounts held 58,967,022 baht, nine investments totalled 23,072,380 baht, two lots of land came to 2,284,750 baht and among other assets he had 11.8 million tied up in four vehicles. 

 

Not bad for a humble army general. 

 

Sanook further reported that his wife Naraporn had 26,347,882 in assets. 

 

Netizens totalled up what Prayuth would have earned in the 6 years and 9 months of being PM and it came to 10,423,970 baht. 

 

Sanook published a table of what those in parliament earn - second on the list were DPMs earning 74,420 baht as salary and 45,500 baht allowance. 

 

But what netizens really wanted to know was what Prayuth was worth NOW, information not forthcoming because of Section 36 of the NACC Act.

 

Many have said what PMs and MPs earn from salaries and allowances are a mere bagatelle to what they accumulate from other arenas. 

 

Meanwhile media elsewhere reported that secretary of the Palang Pracharath Party Thamanat Prompow - famously mixed up in a heroin case in Australia - had also joined the donation of salaries among 15 others in the cabinet.

Ok, now WE do the math, an army general, a PM for good number of years in a third world country rife with corruption with connections, influence and access up to the wazoo, no wonder he has amassed such fortune, and this is what is KNOWN, never mind the loots that is unknown and stashed away, so for him to "donate" 3 moths of his salary, it's like small change he has in his car's cup holder...

His ignorance of the intelligence of the Thai population is insulting. 
 

Those in positions of power are truly fortunate that for the most part the Thai population are extremely fatalistic & acceptant.

they have just started an early election campaign, have head start over an opposition, which would be allowed to run their campaign just 30 days before the ballot box.

Do expect more of those gimmicks - cooking for medics at hospital kitchens (we have already seen one some 4 weeks ago - probably done with a look-alike, doppelganger employed) or giving mamma noodles at Klong Toi slums (just next to Thonglor second government house).

 

Same was happening before the last election. Prayuth and cohort were openly canvassing through the country, including setting up by junta a large village fund (some 10bln) to be allocated to camnans associated with them. They did large fundraising events, with ministries sending their employees and paying up to 10mln per table.

There were so many irregularities - all dismissed by the election commission and by constitutional court.

Prayuth, being a millionaire, still stays for free at villa at army barracks - court case against him was dismissed in december.

 

They are all rich and they are all above the law

The figures referred to are a fraction of his total wealth. There is a reference to a portion of the land he owns being worth 600m baht, but no reference at all to the value of his overseas assets.

It has not been a long time ago (2019/2020?), you could read in TVF, about the army and their acting.

They were busy in many things and gained a lot of money. All those things were transferred then to ministeries. Things like malls, hotels, resorts, land, houses and so on.

It came out by accident, i believe it was a "disagreement" between a lower and higher ranked military persons. 

Prayut is military, so as well had even before 2014 profits with it? Probably and maybe also the years after till 2019/20, when it came out.

With all the assets he has, there must be some something rotten in Denmark.

 

But that being said , How a bout Clinton (took a dive in their foundation of 3 million dollars for a wedding), Trump and many others everywhere on this planet.

You remember the guy who was killed in an embassy of his country by a prince?

Or Poetin shooting down planes, killing his opponents, building a palace of a billion dollars?

Saw a docu of him, how he climbed from nothing to one of the most powerfulll persons in the world, amazing.

But with power comes great responsibilities, which they then forget.
