Why ? Waiting reaction Swiss peoples this news and see the effects from tourism Thai, the times full tourism Thailand is over.

Plenty other places to visit. Why would anyone go somewhere with this sort of thing going on. Google tourist murders in Thailand and the murders in Koh Tao are top of the list of 528,000 results. The following are not happy reading either.

As the so called authorities on these islands allow these lowlife thai males to take their tourism industry to ruin, they are getting what they are asking for and what they deserve

Yes, the resort ("The Moorings", it's a collection of bungalows) is very close.   Probably no more than 800 metres or so as the crow flies.

walking distance if she was staying close by.

Seems strange that nobody reported her missing? Or was looking for her, even remotely via phone, text, social media.

Reports in the press mention that she may have been dead ~ three days when found.

Absolutely.   Very quiet area, though if the body had been there 3 days or so, surprised it wasn't found earlier as the hillside path along the stream to what is a succession of small pools and waterfalls is quite popular for walking, especially local children.

Region 8 Police Commander Lt Gen Kitrat Panpetch held a special press conference at Wichit Police Station last night and confirmed that the woman had arrived on the island on July 13.

Welcome to safe trusted Thailand... just when you think it's safe to come and cannot get any worse.

So many better destinations and choices to make.

Rip lady.

Devastating news...
Just what Thailand needed.
RIP for this poor poor lady.
I hope they will get the <deleted> culprit soon.
Very sad way to end your life like this... Horrible.

Very sad news, heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. RiP.

Interesting link about the worst countries for solo female travelers.. Thailand n 10.

it really depends where you go within a country

I have said before (unrelated to this thread) that the islands are dangerous for western women because unlike places like Pattaya Thais and farangs all mix in the same entertainment venues - young western women become targets/pray, Koh Tao is a prime example

But lets not forget that there are Thai women that become victims to western men - a number of murders over the years

Why? There have been more people killed here, there are people killed everywhere.

When will Thailand learn to stop screwing itself into the ground.

R.I.P.

Thats not a good start, the percentage of real tourists that have arrived in Phuket from the 1st July on the Sandbox scheme is small, to have one of them murdered is not a good sign, particularly when its a lone female who had also been raped first.

Terrible news for the family and lets hope her ordeal and fate will lead to swift action by the police.

And they find the real culprit... just saying.

As an example....do you believe the murders of  Hannah Witheridge and David Miller on Koh Tao impacted tourism to there? It might be just like that.

RIP.  A BIG BLACK MARK on the Sandbox efforts.  Something Thailand did not need at this time.

now, they won't blame the burmese

It tells you one thing that there are a lot of desperate local Thais who resent the sandbox. they are looking at it as a way to enrich the rich and they are left out.

desperate people doing desperate things

nt blame the burmese on the island..

They can't come in.

My condolences. Hope they catch the killer and be locked up for life.

Not unless she was with someone else. If alone the room maids may have just assumed she was staying with a man somewhere else. Would be a "normal" sort of thing on holiday IMO.

I doubt the perpetrator can leave the Alcatraz Sandbox island. He is already incarcerated, like the rest of us.

Phone was found at the scene.

and as all tourists are required to download the tracking Mor Chana app//.. they will be ablee to track her previous places visited.

Why does that matter? Seems she was killed and raped where the body was found.

My condolences. Hope they catch the killer and execute as soon as DNA test confirms.

The first column looks pretty good for Thailand. Maybe events here get more publicity than say South Africa.

It may have escaped your attention but there are a few tourists from countries other than Switzerland that may have been planning a holiday in the dirtbox.

Not good advert for the sandbox .hope they catch the scum who did this.

There is no better way to dirty any DNA than by having the area not cordoned off and 20 bibs talking selfies. RIP

This is indeed a bad situation for Phuket in trying times for Tourism

It will not stop Tourism or people travelling to Thailand as cases before on the Islands have proved

Just makes people more aware plus going out on your  own especially woman not a good idea

May link her to her killer - taxi driver or even a farang. May show her stopping at or passing a restaurant with cctv with video of her being followed. Certainly could give valuable information.
