And woman are not being murdered in people's home country? It happens all over the world. I highly doubt people put their plans on hold because of a murder in Thailand. Solo woman in Phuket will be more careful, but cancelling a holiday. Nah.

Agree...if violent deaths were a consideration, the US would hardly be #3 in international tourist arrivals. And little Thailand holds its own at #8.

Sorry mate. That's a Dassault Falcon 2000. The A350 is a "little" bigger.

Killing people is wrong...yes; state killing people is okay ????

Yes .   Killers kill for fun, excitement , money.  The state is executing them for a crime  commited  and protecting others from becoming a victim.

Couldn't see the whole plane...the upturned wing-tips thought it could be. The 2000 is no slouch either.

Hope they solve this case expediently,
and, to proof the good intentions,
the other outstanding questions as well.

I've met many women who came to Phuket by themselves. Some of them were on holiday, many of them found jobs, partners, and ended up becoming part of the community - both farang and local.

The amount of foreigners murdered in Phuket is tiny - to have it happen to a lone woman who could have been one of my friends is sickening.

it is sickening even if it was not one of your friends

Life imprisonment protects everyone and no more killing is necessary.

Doesn't protect the prison guards trying to foil his escape, other inmates he pisses off or people in street if he does escape . They don't care about killing again you gave them life inprisonment you can't do anything more to them.  Had a guy sentenced to 20 years in prison in US for murder days after getting out killed ex-wife and her husband as reveng. Plenty of cases like that.  Put them down don't have to worry about that person doing it again  after he has proven his willingness to kill.

Aah, I see what you are referring to now.  Yes, very useful for framing someone.  Apologies for not getting your drift on first read.

No worries. Makes it a bit worrying going out around the island now when they do tricks like that. I doubt they would try to frame a farang though.

Thailand probes death of Swiss tourist near Phuket waterfall

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand is investigating the death of a 57-year-old Swiss tourist after her body was found near a waterfall on the resort island of Phuket, with signs she had died of unnatural causes, officials said on Friday.

The woman was visiting under the "Phuket Sandbox" scheme, a pilot project to allow in vaccinated foreign tourists to help revive a sector decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Phuket governor Narong Woonciew said, adding that she had arrived on the island on July 13.

The woman appeared to have been dead for three days before her body was found, partially unclothed, said Kitirath Phanpetch, commander of Region 8 police that oversees Phuket, in an interview on MCOT television.

Although police have not yet determined the cause of death, Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanee Sangrat expressed condolences to the Swiss Embassy in Bangkok in a statement that described the case as a "murder".

Thailand's Phuket tourism scheme, in which vaccinated visitors can skip COVID-19 quarantine but have to remain on the island for 14 days, has faced a difficult start particularly as the rest of Thailand faces a surge in coronavirus infections.

The scheme attracted about 15,000 visitors in July, its first month, just 1% of pre-pandemic arrivals

"After finishing the terms of the sandbox, she travelled to (the nearby island of) Krabi and returned," Kitirath said.

She stayed at a hotel in Phuket that was about two km (1.24 miles) from a waterfall where she was later found.

The body was found with swelling and bruises, Kitirath said, adding that results of an autopsy would be ready later on Friday.

"There was a black cloth covering the body, which suggests somebody placed it there and that the cause of death was unnatural," he said.

Kitirath said police were investigating people with criminal records and also migrant workers for possible involvement in the death.

Many of the Thai women I met had very high respect for the dangers of being a woman.  Sleeping with shorts on.  Locked bedroom door even if all the house doors and  Windows were locked and shut.  No nude sunbathing or revealing dress.  Never thought they were alone or safe in the forest.

RIP.

Can't put in words my sorrow for the victim and relatives or friends.   For sure Thailand will not be on their vacation plans.

There's a lot more that can be done to them...including loss of privileges and administrative segregation (solitary confinement).

That wont go down well with Swiss people wanting to holiday in Thailand.

Switzerland, being a small nation of 8.5M people, such an notorious event is bound to be big news no matter who she was; however I doubt this tragic event will have any affect on Swiss tourist arrivals in Thailand.

What "all around the world"? ??? Most of the rest of the world doesn't give flying you know what about a single death in Phuket with over 4 million deaths in the last 18 months from CV-19 alone  "all around the world"! You realize the earth does not revolve around Thailand don't you?

You're quoting the wrong person. I never wrote that.

It is not only the virus that is threat to 'Sandbox ' tourists ...

Being a woman , she should not travel alone , even around the island ... sickos around everywhere .

Wow....that is pretty sexist.  You are saying women should not be allowed out alone as they can't cope?

The first column looks pretty good for Thailand. Maybe events here get more publicity than say South Africa.

Didn't realise South Africa was a tourist destination.

Not too many people standing over the crime scene?

Yes, and why nobody finger pointing?

My question is where'd the black (blaket, tarp, cloth) whatever she was covered up with come from?

With the Investigation into this wholly repugnant and savage crime, I only hope that the RTP will conduct themselves with some kind of dignity, and not turn the whole thing into something the same as the Kho Tao murders of the Two young British backpackers a while back.

Dignity from the RTP will show dignity to the deceased and Her family, something that was very sadly missing in the Kho Tao case.

The whole thing was a complete Circus, and even to this day there are many that believe the Two young Burmese Lads that were convicted were used to cover up the real culprits of the crime and were made scapegoats.

This poor Woman deserves at least some respect from the RTP, as would all victims of such a dreadful crime.

If you think Koh Tao investigation was bad, remember that time they forced a hill tribe guy to masturbate so they could frame him for the murder of Kirsty Jones?
