A single dose of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine provides “highly effective protection” against severe illness caused by Beta and Delta strains, the company said Thursday, citing real-world Canadian data.

In a press release, the company released results of a study by the Canadian Immunization Research Network, attesting that one dose of the vaccine was 82 per cent and 87 per cent effective against hospitalization or death caused by the Beta and the Delta variants, respectively.

The study also shows that the vaccine was 90 per cent effective against hospitalization or death caused by the Alpha variant, first identified in the United Kingdom.

The US have a large oversupply of covid vaccines - by January this year they had ordered 1.2 billion - so they didn't really need to use their AZ vaccines.

I have found that chewing raw garlic seems to keep infection at bay, at least people seem to give me a wide berth so not close enough to spread virus.

But maybe should look at alternatives like AZ ,Pf etc. Don't see much of friends any more for some reason.

This "news" will allow some unscrupulous governments to just vax once with AZ and up their stats on fully vaccinated.

Here come the "statistics" (well lies and damned lies have not done the trick).

The US does not use it because two vaccines Pfizer and Moderna produced within the USA have proven to have similar if not better effectiveness.

It's as bad as food groups, every day they give you a reason not to eat something after saying it was good for you yesterday.!

"the company said Thursday" ...

... the company that wrongly said its initial phase 3 mistakes indicated a much higher efficacy of 92%.

... the same company that now proudly says a 45 week delay to dose 2 gives even better efficacy.

I googled this and Canadian Immunization research network article that made this claim. 30 to 40 other articles that came out around the same time disputed the one jab theory. All articles do say 2 jabs of AZ give you around 90% protection against severe infection and is right up there with Pfizer and Moderna against Delta. Before believing you only need 1 jab I would need to see more data and articles. I still consider 2 jabs of Astro Zeneca to be full vaccination and its to bad Thailand cant get more of it

Japan too.

A single dose of AZ seems to be the plan-du-jour for Thailand. Then follow up with second doses when they have enough?

They did have a blow-out day yesterday, with 670,834 getting a dose (1st, 2nd and 3rd). The third-dose Pfizer booster did 175,190.

Not true at all. I was given my second dose appointment immediatelly after getting my first jab.

I have  had an initial jab of AZ so I hope in mid October I will actually receive the second as "promised" on my vaccination slip!

Obviously they’re talking about the ‘gold standard’ of AstraZeneca. The exceptionally pure, high octane AZ vaccine rumored to being laboriously, meticulously and slowly produced in the holy, blessed labs of Thailand.

Same same.   First one back in June, next scheduled for next month.

When I first had my Sinovac my 'second vaccine' was noted to be 'Sinovac' again. But that changed and I received AZ instead. Take nothing for granted.

I go for AZ on Monday  and get the Moderna  as second dose. Seem the best combination.

What evidence is there for the "plan du jour" of single shot AZ ?

No doubt Thailand will continue with the majority of shots being sinovac or sinopharm at least initially or AZ as according to established criteria.

It would be a reasonably safe bet those that got a 3rd shot of Pfizer will be front line people.

Where do you think you can get the Moderna?  I was looking at either Moderna or Pfizer as my second jab but can not find anywhere to do the second dose as having had the first of AZ in June, I can not register at MedPark hospital again for Pfizer as I am scheduled for my second AZ jab there in September.  I wonder if there will be a way by then to ask them to change the AZ to Pfizer, but then I am not sure they will as many of the Pfizer jabs are going as boosters to medical staff.

I registered and paid in advance for the Moderna, last week I've got a SMS to confirm it and wait for appointment in October while at the same time others got a SMS that they cannot have it and they will get a refund of the money.
