Hua Hin opening like Phuket Sandbox on Oct 1st to "100,000 foreign tourists for sure" spending 1.2 billion

The man in charge of the plan to reopen Hua Hin to foreign tourists - Hua Hin Recharge - has said that it will follow the Phuket Sandbox model.

And 100,000 foreigners will be coming for sure spending 1.2 billion baht at the seaside town in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Tourism leader and spa owner Krot Rojanasathien said he would be meeting with tourism minister Pipat Ratchakitprakan, the TAT, health authorities and other key players next Sunday to iron out the details.

But he said it was all systems go for an October 1st start according to the Sandbox model.

Foreigners will have Covid-19 tests when they arrive then again on the 7th day and the 13th day.

They will have to stay in approved SHA hotels for the first 7 days somewhere in the 86.36 sq km area.

Then on the eighth day they can change to another hotel in the area.

If the 13th day test proves negative they are free to explore the rest of Thailand.

Yes, it's that simple.

Krot said it was absolutely certain that this plan would mean 100,000 foreigners visiting spending 1,200,000,000 baht.

Vaccinations in the area going for a target of 70% of the population had hit 55%, said Bangkok Business News, with 75,740 people having received one, two or three doses.

In other stories Pipat appeared to share Krot's optimism after comments in Parliament backing the Thai PM's 120 day reopening plan.

But the Association of Thai Travel Agents suggested to business media that 2021 was a foreign tourism non-starter and the end of 2022 was more realistic as there was barely any foreign tourism market at all at present.

  • I wish there were consequences for sprouting possitive news and not even getting close to targets. Would be great for the fake news department. But i think they only go after the anti government.

Well, to be fair, the Phuket sandbox scheme has been such a resounding success I can see why they would want to copy it.

I am wondering what they eat or drink, because if you see the increasing numbers of Phuket, and the uncertainty of this period with no lockdown or whatever you call it, and the negative travel advice of the western countries, I think something is blurring their minds

Its so boring all those Thai politicians / officials make unrealistic promises and never get judged by not meeting targets and sprouting non sense.

Let's hope for the sake of the local business people that they don't take it seriously and pump money into getting prepared for those 100,000.

I wonder where they get these numbers from, cannot be the success of Phuket Sandbox, which is some 90,000 short to be topped up this month, compared to the originally predicted 120,000 tourist arrivals - and the Russians seem to head for Krabi, at least 500,000 of them which could be all Russian arrivals, if nor more, and Samui+ is also going to have their fair share; are there really so many tourists "for sure" queuing up to enter Thailand before year end...????

I get the concept of Phuket/Samui. They are islands. There are small roads leading out of Hua Hin like holes in a sieve.  How are they going to police that?

I did mention it on another thread.

I don't think TAT work in the base of 10 and that's where a lot of the confusion over numbers arises.

This is far from simple, it will fail.

1 test at home before flying to Thailand, 3 tests after arriving, plus you probably need another one before flying back home... that does sound like a fun holiday! Add the CoE application process, Covid insurance, limited flights options...

Speaking of flights, how will that work for Hua Hin? Fly into Bangkok and use a special "sealed route" shuttle service?

I'd say they'll get a few thousand snowbirds. If you stay 3-6 months, those insane procedures don't matter as much as for a short trip.

100,000 visitors spending 1.2bn baht is only 12,000 baht each. Since they will have to pay 14 days for hotel fees can’t see there been much left.

For sure !!! ????????????

And so it goes on.... constant drivel.

Foreign tourists and Bangkok tourists have been coming to Hua Hin for months throughout COVID-19, even during the lockdowns..

Some rejoicing - it is so quiet and peacful in Hua Hin..

Others - this is all too boring, where else can we go?

If the words " for sure " have been used, then you better believe it.

Yes, because Hua Hin is exactly identical to Phuket, in being an isolated island, with major international airport able to accommodate wide body jets and process millions of passengers a year through the state of the art terminal building. Nearly all HH residents are vaccinated and the outbreak is totally under control, nobody could enter or leave without passing a heavily manned single checkpoint, and there are lots of wonderful islands around it, which tourists can spend their dream holidays on. I mean, 100% identical to Phuket.

Okay.

This can't be for domestic tourists, right?

I laughed when I saw that yesterday.

Talk about pulling a rabbit out of your hat.

Krabi  is beautiful but I think 99% of the businesses have closed, many permanently.

Besides the nice hotel and a walk on the beach theres virtually nothing to do but visit the most dismal Big C  or the occasional open 7/11.

You seem to imply the fully vaccinated and multiple tested tourists are bringing in the virus…and none of Phuket sandbox is from local transmission.  It can work in Samui HH and Pattaya.  Arrivals should take care not to mingle  and socialize with unvaccinated farangs that walk around maskless.

They can't even police a police station .

That's what i've been saying . They don't give a flying !@#$ about the locals as long as their hi-so friends hotel owners can make a buck .
