BANGKOK (NNT) - The government’s COVID-19 task force has announced a target of 24 million vaccinations in October, with 71 million more doses of vaccine from various manufacturers to be delivered in the last three months of 2021. Mass vaccination for adolescents aged 12-17 years will also begin in October with two Pfizer doses given.

The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) Spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin has outlined the latest update in the national vaccination campaign, which is expected to pick up pace with higher supplies in the final quarter of this year.

According to the CCSA, Thailand will be receiving a total of 71 million COVID-19 vaccine doses from various manufacturers, with 24 million to arrive in October consisting of 10 million doses from AstraZeneca, 8 million doses from Pfizer, and 6 million doses from Sinovac.

In November, 23 million more doses are expected to be delivered, namely 13 million doses from AstraZeneca and 10 million doses from Pfizer; followed by another 24 million doses in December, with 14 million doses from AstraZeneca and 10 million doses from Pfizer.

The CCSA has also updated the vaccine regimen for the national vaccination program effective from late-September and throughout October, including guidelines for booster shots.

The general public aged from 18 years will continue to receive either the Sinovac-AstraZeneca mix and match regimen, or two doses of AstraZeneca, or the new AstraZeneca-Pfizer regimen. The CCSA expects 16.8 million doses of vaccine will be used by this group.

Adolescents aged 12-17-year-old will be getting two doses of Pfizer vaccine, with consent from their parents. A total of 4.8 million Pfizer doses will be reserved for this group.

Workers who register for a vaccination via the Social Security vaccination program will be getting the Sinovac-AstraZeneca mix and match regimen, with 800,000 doses reserved for this group. Another 1.1 million doses are also reserved for those getting vaccinated with a government agency, who will also getting the Sinovac-AstraZeneca regimen.

People fully vaccinated with two doses of Sinovac vaccine will be offered an AstraZeneca jab as their booster. The CCSA has allocated 500,000 doses of AstraZenaca for the booster program. This scheme has already been piloted in Phuket, where the number of severe cases remains low even with a surge in cases.

Meanwhile, people who have contracted and recovered from COVID-19 before being fully vaccinated, are advised to get a dose of AstraZeneca vaccine within 1-3 months after their recovery.

It's somewhere in the invoice list for the 71 million.

Apparently Bumrungrad has a registration for Moderna available so there must be supplies coming

Numbers, numbers...

Now with about 100 days left this year, just need to find a way for an even 700k a day jabs, so all 71 million vaccines get a good use.

It is super likely the government will deliver on these numbers.

Or not.

Either way, they can always make up a new plan.

As they had twice a week the past months...

will - shall- intend- target- believe- plan, etc

care only about actual completed vax statistics……

All figures have an 'adjustment mechanism'.

Sometimes referred to as fudge factor.

So an extra supply increased by I million from their claims last week for the month of Dec which previously was 23 million and now is 24.

This was last weeks announcement for the remainder of the year, Sept = 15.3m. Oct = 24m. Nov = 23m. and Dec = 23m.

Whatever. More promises and reliance on Sinovac that nobody now wants.

The AZ numbers, as usual, are suspect.

6 mm is the stretch target, so expecting 10-13-13 is a bit pie-in-the-sky.

Whenever you see a chart like this, weighted heavily at the back-end to meet a target,  most times it's pure fiction.

Open up the private sector already, and allow them to purchase and administer vaccinations. Keeping this massive player on the sidelines - yes they do dispense some gov't vaccines - is an epic failure, assuming the goal is to get as many people vaccinated as possible.

Somebody posted a chart on here a few days ago , it was the effectiveness of the vaccines used by percent.

I cannot find it , does anybody know the whereabouts of it ?

If all the parents said 'Yes' that would be about 4.8 million doses. They need double that to enable a 2nd dose to be given to all the students (9.6 million). That's why the very original order of Pfizer was for 10 million doses to cover the student vaccination program.

Latest research being studied and debated prior to implimentation as policy in the UK is that 1 dose of Pfizer gives  97% protection to this age group. It is the 2nd dose that appears to affect healthy males with a very rare side-effect (1 per million) (Heart inflamation). Perhaps Thailand should be asking the same question. Is a 2nd dose of Pfizer needed for this age group?

Is this a "magical number" ?

For an answer, you might have a look at the Covid situation in Israel, the UK, USA, and many other countries etc.

It seems that Covid does not care... The problem : we oversold this "vaccine promise" to the whole world.

People, especially in Asia, are going to be disappointed.

And probably upset.

No need to look that far afield. Look at Phuket. Vaccinations and Restrictions a plenty and record cases. The latter not a worry if severe symptomatic cases are low. But of course we don’t know if that is the case or not because it’s not reported!

That chart was dated August.  There's an updated version which I've seen, but can't find again.  I believe it said that Moderna for December was down to 2 million doses.

The Pfizer:  Are those donations from other countries, or is Thailand paying?

Moderna:  Is there an updated statement on when this is supposed to arrive?  I've only heard crickets.

Do you think we would be better off without the vaccines.

In time, Covid will become like the seasonal Flu, we just have to keep making sure that everyone keeps getting vaccinated, that way, Covid will become less of a problem, weaker in strength and as I said, become like a seasonal Flu.

Do you have a better plan ?

1.982 mil October is what the crickets have been saying, the balance first quarter 2022, that said, you can bet 1.1 mil will go to the Thai Red Cross IMO.

This is going to be very interesting to see how they organise the kids getting vaccinated, because if it is going to be anything like the way they arranged for farangs to get vaccinated, it will be another disaster.

Excellent news I agree, sounds like they're finally getting their collective acts together.

With a real PM in place it could have happened a year ago and all the grief of this year might not have happened.

It all sounds great, but is this another one of those “prioritise the elderly and at risk” type announcements where the announcement itself is logical but implementation and reality are totally different? In this case, are the vaccine supplies real, or just on paper and can they really meet the required daily target consistently.

we shall see.

The bumrungrad moderna registration is for first or second quarter next year, so probably not coming this year after all.

Other 2 hospitals I registered with confirmed the same revised schedule.

Luckily I got my pfizer from expatvac.

You could contact Bumrungrad. They recently had an online order/pay for Moderna.

Why would there be?   Moderna is not going to be part of the Government programme and any such vaccine that comes into Thailand will be purely a commercial transaction and therefore of no concern to the Government.  I maybe wrong but that's is my understanding.

Not in Thailand it's not, I mean Christmas not Moderna. Oh, hang on, I might have meant Moderna..

I think you are right... It is non business of the Governement yet and so the people who paid for it have to wait at the private hospitals and because the Government can't fill their pockets with it they just don't give any information of it.
