Xenophobic behavior/behaviour

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

With the vaccination passports, the xenophobic behavior of the Thai is showing up again.
Everybody can get a vaccination, but the vaccination card is ONLY available to Thai people with a 13-digit number on their ID-Card.
Reading the thread about this, even foreigners with a "pink" ID-Card, would have trouble to get a vaccination card.
As if Thai people would be protected against Covid infections by a foreigner.
Silly and stupid at the highest grade.

About a year ago, I was walking in Terminal 21 with my Thai daughter.
There were a lot of advertising poles and I could read that it was about "free internet".
So, with the help of my daughter (walking dictionary) I went to such a pole to register for free internet.
The I didn't get any further than the page where they asked my 13-digit ID-card number.
Luckely, my daughter was with me and I typed my daughter's ID-Card number but gave my phone number.
I have now FREE INTERNET in Terminal 21, despite not having a Thai ID-Card.

I go many times to "Amazon" to drink a cup of coffee.
At one of my visits, I noticed the "PTT Blue Card".
I browsed on my phone about the "PTT Blue Card" and noticed that it gave a lot of benefits.
I wanted to register for a "PTT Blue Card", but I got stuck at the page where they wanted my 13-digit ID-Card number.
When I got home, I asked my daughter's ID-Card and typed it in (with my phone number).
I have now a "PTT Blue Card" which I use every time EVERYWHERE.

A week ago, I was walking trough Central Plaza and there was a small stall selling packet of vegetables.
Many customers before me asked the price, and the answer was every time "10 bath for every pack".
I needed some fresh vegetables and took a few packs.
Total would be 50 baht (5 packs).
But when I wanted to pay, the lady asked for 100 baht.
She said: "Each pack is 20 baht, Sir".
I put everything back in place and left.
together with me was several Thai who did the same as me and left.

I know that Thai people will not read this, but I think that it is time to STOP this XENOPHOBIC behavior and accept the fact that foreigners (expats and tourists) are visiting this country and this behavior is not benefitting your country at all.

You’ve made the mistake of confusing xenophobia and indifference - the case you example are simply those where foreigners have not been considered rather than specifically excluded.

The only place I do see examples which edge towards xenophobia is dual charging.

Vaccines etc..  no those with the pink ID had no issues registering to get vaccinated, even at the time there were posters refusing to accept this and suggested that ‘farangs’ would get turned away (that would be xenophobia - but it didn’t happen).

Quite often Thai’s will just say ‘cannot’ instead of ‘I don’t know’... the foreigner things they’ve been deliberately excluded and have misunderstood the laziness of the person they are dealing with.

Xenophobia - there’s not much of it in Thailand, but people can be socially clumsy which appears xenophobic.

I did it with tax card that has an ID number on it, why do some people find things so difficult? Just been sent the pass on mor prom, although I imagine it's going to be of little use, certainly none for international travel.

I was allocated a unique 13 digit number when I first registered for a Covid vaccination online back in June.

This is number is personal to me  and starts with 60xxxxxxxxxxx.

It is my understanding that once I'm fully vaccinated (I've had one jab so far) I can use the same number to register for a vaccination card/certificate.

Of course I may be mistaken but this is what I have read from multiple sources.

That is rather rude and offensive to suggest that Thais are not "human"

You, see sometimes Xenophobia backfires. Which makes it probably the biggest threat to our survival as a species.

Well, I have the 13 digit number in my housebook, the same nu ber is on my ID Card. I was also given a certificate after my jab of AZ too.

Op can get these if eligible, of course as always, areas vary.

Easier said than done.

3 years ago and 2 years ago i asked at the local amphur for yellow book/ and pink ID. both times told both times, 'cannot, for migrant only, farang no'.

I live in a migrant area i see agents with stacks of books and cards mostly for Myanmar but not for me.

It's always a post code lottery with stuff like this.

Nothing xenophobic about it, if you pay tax and social security you have the ID number too.

When you get vaccinated you get allocated a 13 digit number and that goes into the linked system that tracks whether you are vaccinated or not. So I doubt any issues at all with a vaccination card, you automatically get an online one with your first vaccine shot. Just scan the QR code on your paper or email version and it will show you your online card. Note do not post your QR code as it also contains personal details and passport number.

I also have a pink card so now have two different 13 digit numbers.

Uncalled for. Hopefully pun intended. You do condone double pricing ? Heard of BLM and Asian hate ? In other countries it is called racial profiling. This behaviour is definitely not acceptable and has nothing to do with one's citizenship...but what would you know ?

In my experience, it does usually ends up being more expensive that way, doesn't it ? 555

These guy's are so brilliant,  and that goes without saying.  Not only does it require a Thai ID card to get the health passport,  but the certificate that is issued saying that a person has had two injections,  doesn't come with a name on it.  It has the Mor Phom official seal on it.  Two dates of does, name and batch number of the dose.  This comes with green background and statement  of certification.  This for an entrepreneur, is a way to beat the system.  All one need to do is take a screen shot, share with a friend who hasn't been vaccinated,  which I dont recommend any of this, that friend  saves to his phone.  Each time that friend enters a restaurant,  since it's mor Phom, and all a farang can get as proof(no mame is in documents of proof)or they enter anywhere required to show this... well just show the screen shot.  It goes without saying, and I hear it all the time.  Thais will always do you a favor.

So you just quoted everything that is wrong with the US. lol Yet there are murders everyday related to racial profiling in the US. Most western countries are a bloody mess. Perhaps fix up your own back yard first.

Racism wasn't shown to me, was it, and I was the only farang, perhaps my yellow book was the key...?  ????

Racism is not something one sees, although actions speak louder than words as they say. My wife even tells me that Thai's don't like farangs, however they tolerate us.

We could argue about this for a lifetime, I have never seen racism from Thai's with or without my yellow book, pink ID etc, however I know they tolerate us, I could go on and say some teachers even put us down to their students, noting that both of our daughters have asked why and even one teacher calling our EuroAsian daughter something that should never been said in a school or to a child, this was a private school, and that teacher was removed for his comment when we brought it to the attention of the principal.

Nonsense. Get a yellow housebook and stop feeling sorry for yourself.

Foreigners can get the Covid vaccine, especially the good ones like Pfizzer, before Thais.

My foreign friends have been vaccinated with Pfizer and I couldn't get it as I don't have a visa in my UK passport.

Very true, Thais don't generally like foreigners. Actually, many foreigners here don't really like foreigners. Kinda screwed up, many think that all Thais like them and don't know there are names for 13 different Thai smiles.

‘Come on... you know better than to let balanced facts get in the way of a little ‘victim blaming and accusations of xenophobia’ !!!...

Really - some people are so unfamiliar with the general indifference Thai’s treat each other that when they too are treated with equal indifference they get upset.

Thai’s tend to be very ‘insular’ they have their ‘sphere of influence/importance’ anyone outside of this sphere, Thai or foreign, simply does not register - the reality is most people are like this.

When it comes to government policy, this ‘sphere’ continues, its not that Thai’s in positions of decision making power are xenophobic towards foreigners, its that we are so far out of their scope there is nothing other than indifference (which is neither a negative or a positive).
