In defence of the older posters (of which I am one). They experienced a different Thailand, a more 3rd world, on the edge, ruralistic, culturally dependent, cheaper, base, developing Thailand than exists today. They simply miss those days and times. The times when Thailand was a thrilling foreign and cultural experience to the young foreigner, not the standard internationalised concrete culturally devoid capitalistic template it offers today like most other places.

that is almost the entire world after social media and smartphones met.

the world is more melting pot.  New music is almost all hip hop/ r and B US flavored in all countries now, along with dress...but accesorized to the native country.

As are the same morals trying to be pushed across the globe.

And things are rapidly changing.  The USA cancel culture is frightening.  They are going after anyone that's made a mistake once in their life, or even barely mistakes.  Gruden just lost his job for mocking people in private emails.

Good thing Jesus not born now, he'd just be a criminal (he was one then too actually).  And canceled into shame.

As others have said, more people take the time to complain than to praise.  Sad that's the case. And, more posters on these forums see the glass as half empty rather than half full.  I do sometimes complain myself about this or that--it's natural when you live somewhere and take an interest in things.  But, I try to keep a positive outlook and I genuinely enjoy living in Thailand.  I think the majority living here do, too.  But, you get more of the minority posting negatively on these forums.

What I dislike is the constant negativity with social media, forums, etc.--not just here but everywhere.  It seems nobody wants to hear any positivity.   I sometimes will make positive comments on threads and I know every time I do someone will be along to condemn or disagree  with what I say, question my honesty, or attempt to turn my positive into their negative.

Threads here on buying real estate in Thailand are almost universally negative.  Several times, to counteract all the negativity and present a different perspective, I've mentioned on threads that I have bought and sold a number of condos in Thailand and never lost money on any of them.  Heaps of abuse soon followed every time.  Too few want to hear any good news, also sad.

Here's another example.  The other day a poster started an innocuous thread about his observations on a  weekend day out at Jomtien Beach.  He noted that there were a lot of people out enjoying themselves, things were busy, and it was nice to see the activity.  He jokingly said 'who needs foreign tourists', and used it as his headline.  But, it should also be noted that he said in his post that, of course, foreign tourists are needed.

I quite liked the post.  I thought it was well-written and it was nice to read a bit of good news after months and months of depressing covid news. It was great, I thought, that the OP had taken the time to pass along some positivity.  No sooner had I read the post and I page down to the next comment, which was nasty and called the OP stupid and thoughtless.  Others were also quick to condemn, apparently unable to grasp a tongue-in-cheek comment regarding foreign tourists.  (A word to the wise:  Beware of using sarcasm and irony.  And, we can now add tongue-in-cheek.)

Misery loves company, and unhappy people don't like it when others are happy.

IMO those happy with their lives are not found on this forum, other than on the helpful sub forums eg DIY. Ergo, not many positive posts.

Just because he rejected the eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth of the Pharisees by preaching love thy neighbour as thy self did not make him a criminal.

Brits and americans are the biggest moaners, here on TV... There is ALWAYS something wrong (meaning it is different in their countries, so it is wrong in Thailand) Just ignore these sad people and Thailand gets a lot better right away ????

You bring up a good point. Some of these people may not even live in SEA.

I think, somehow, you misunderstand the Christian doctrine of "dying for your sins" and all if the old testament.

"these people" really? Have you joined a forum tribe even before you arrive?

Don't take this forum or its posters seriously. They are all as bored as myself (why else would I be here),

LOL, you're looking too much into it. These people meaning people, who may not even live in SEA, but complain relentlessly. My apologies if that wasn't clear.

There is no perfect place to live, home is where you hang your hat.  Spent most of the last 20 years in SE Asia/Asia and this is home. I like it better than anywhere else.

moaning and complaining about things

is making the world a better place.

the western critical thinking often is confused with negativity, but that is how things

get better.

I stay for the same reasons I came. Weather, cheap transport, girls, music, cost of living, entertainment, laid back life style, culture, topography, variety, lack of woke politics, SWJs, Rad fems, Rainbow pressure groups, enviro cranks etcetc,

Only weak minded people moan and complain.

"if Thailand is as bad, anti-farang, dangerous, miserable (insert adjective here) place to be,"

This comment is innacurate, stupid rubbish. It's entirely subjective. It's not dangerous. That is a lie. It's not anti farang. That's nonsense. It's not miserable. That's plain foolish. The OPS have never experienced these negative traits but feel they have the right to spread such nonesense. This is the worst kind of trolling.

Not everyone complains but it seems consistent with people from places known as "a country of complainers".  Many negative, low money and depressed with no personal future they seem to think Thailand owes them something.

Australia is also known as the lucky country and its only certain elements who complain all the time..its the uneducated and provincial drunks same with the Norwegians and brits..Currently there are very few foreignears here and due to covid conditions they have a lot to complain about but it's only recently, that most have been getting passed off, mainly with the government.

Who is spreading anything other than asking a legit question that received legit answers from all sides? It's not your cup of tea. I get it. Yet, you feel the need to let everyone know it's not your cup of tea. Enjoy the sun and don't take the internet too seriously.

My expirience?   offer the vast majority a one way tix back home,c/w enough to establish themsekves without homelessness, they would jump at it

Walking on broken glass in Thailand,no big brother there for you,get in confrontation with Thais?,you will lose heavily, best to keep it shut,to admit to unhappiness leads to the trickcyclists chair, its a slppery slope, leading to depression, early death,...and during this lockdown  more than a few I know

Yes the sun shines, saunas less full,swimming?..big pool shared by no one, restaurants barely managing, basically on your ownsome, not bad tho, have internet, without that...wheres the noose?

where it all went to hell for some of you

Some people are never happy, sadly it all went to hell when they were born.

I agree with a previous comment, most of the agitators are living abroad, I reckon miserable because they are wanting desperately to come back to Thailand but are unable due to insufficient funds etc.
There are some agitators living here, they will never change, miserable bastards, easily spotted, grumpy, angry looking.
Next time you're out driving and you hear a horn blast aggressively, have a look at the driver, I bet he's a foreigner, 9 out of 10 times it will be. At times I'm embarrassed to be a foreigner when I see this childish behavior, if I can I will ask them to grow up, stop being a child.
To all you miserable, angry people, chill, life is wonderful, you're alive so enjoy your life.

Not so. A million $ won't change a post prostatectomy victim's impotence, or cure chronic back pain.

True. Thais generally don't like to make a fuss in public, but nothing improves for them because of that, IMO.

and if that happened, IMO no loss to LOS. Better place without those always finding fault with Thailand, the government, the people, the cops etc etc etc. Also leave more of the good stuff to those that want to stay and love the place- count me among them.
