You make an excellent point, its the Thai government saying we tell you what to do when we want you to!!

The XOXO bar should use gravy boats not teacups, and the owners were only trying to get on the gravy train.                                                                                :sorry:

Oh, there is a virus in downtown Bangkok, alright.  A virus which at least used to be eradicated every election and then slowly creep back up.  But the most recent form of the virus planted another form of itself such that it cannot be eradicated.  Now there is no vaccine available unless the citizens roll out their own version.

And then there is Covid.  Useful to block eradication of the first virus.

Quite the strategy, actually: A virus that allows another virus to prosper.

"the tip reportedly came from a resident concerned about the spread of Covid-19, police stated."

yep, as I said before: snitching society!

you don't worry about police, only about yr neighbour...

bad/sad development!

keep the rules tight until November the 1st the open up the whole country the same as before the pandemic . Most by then will have had the vaccine and what will be will be .

Shock horror.

Thailand starts to read like The Onion parody news site by the day.

Wait, this isn’t the Onion?

I live in Udon and I know of 2 restaurants that serve beer and they can do this because brown envelopes have been handed over. Everybody knows this is the case and even joke about it while swilling the booze back. Yet the fallacy that we are trying to protect you from the horrid virus(unless you give us some readies) persists. Until this open corruption is tackled then they will never move forward and truly develop.

People always will be stupid. They always think it will happen to others and not to themselves. And really those who complain about what the police does here in Thailand.. I'm so fed up with it... you really think that you know everything better? If up to me I would have all bars closed and especially the places where masses of people come together to get drunk. I won't be popular with this answer, but then... I didn't move to Thailand to accomodate idiots.

Funny how when they relax the rules the cases of Covid rise. Could it be a coincidence?

Currently, all bars and nightlife are closed countrywide and restaurants are not allowed to sell alcohol

Unless your venue is owned by the police, like Bamboo Beach Pattaya (https://www.facebook.com/BambooBeachPattaya???? you can do whatever you want.

Nobody talks about BTS and buses, they're packed every day, no social distance

Tourists are always welcome

It’s OK… They we’re rich Indian tourists authorised by TAT”;0)

Thailand is the land of boring now   Yesterday in khon kaen. Just arrived from Phuket sandbox can’t even have a beer in my favorite restaurant ????????????

Looks like some unsettled business with the overseers, maybe a score to settle.  There are many bars in this area that have been serving wine and beer for weeks already, albeit in a paper cup or a teacup.

Um, that one went straight over the top for you.

I was being sarcastic.

Do you hear yourself man ?

We can't have people sitting at bars drinking, even if vaccinated, because you can still spread and even catch the virus.

Then I went onto say the rest which was how it should be, back to normal.

Hmmph - Album on Imgur

And in 2 weeks (Nov. 1) it will all be LEGAL

- so lets have the BIB's cash in ASAP

This is and will remain the perfect control tool for governments, until they are ready to lift whatever restrictions they deem fit for the masses, and without people rising, could be a while before drinks, and sitting at that bar enjoying a cold one while some young filly is dancing on the bar literally above your head trying to get your attention.

Damn I miss the old days pre-Covid were I used to play hard to get, for about 10 seconds.

First time I read your post I thought the last line said you were hard for ten seconds..............:sorry:

If my memory serves me right, Soi 12 on the Sukhumvit is a Korean hang out.....guess I might move up to Soi 10?????????

A total of 89 Thais and 27 foreigners were caught at the XOXO restaurant located at the Sukhumvit Plaza building on Soi Sukhumvit 12 last night

This is the main local Koreatown complex there.

Don't see any farang faces in the photo accompany the OP... And I'd guess, given the location, there likely weren't any or many farangs there for this one.

BTW, that's NOT any kind of "red light district" location.

Korea Town - did you think they came here for ["Jacks"] Golf?

I never thought of it as that, and certainly not an in your face one, but there seem to be a lot of windowless restaurants and the ratio of waitstaff to customers suggest they are either very service conscious or.......

AFAIK, that place is basically a nightclub kind of place that serves Korean food.

But the Sukhumvit Plaza building (little Koreatown) where XOXO is located is hardly Nana Plaza or Soi Cowboy...

My guess is that the US newspapers in the 1920 had daily articles about police busting up 'illegal and immoral' parties.  "Bad people!!!"

I'm none too sympathetic.  My grandfather ran a speak-easy during that time period as well as smuggling alcohol over the Canadian border.
By grandfather was a heck of a good guy, but a business-man (not mafia) and prohibition was totally absurd (like all prohibitions).

He operated under a pay-to-play agreement with the local police.
The one story I loves was his story about police busts.
According to my father, the police would kick-in the unlocked front door, go to the bar which usually was serving food.  slam a bottle of whisky on the bar and arrest the 'bar-tender.'  Grand-dad would bail him and and life went on.

My guess is that was not so different than in present-day 2021 Thailand.
Prohibitions are state sanctioned morality plays where the "elites" show the commoners their place in the power structure.  You can have a thousand people in a mall, but place a bottle of whisky on a table and everyone needs to vacate.  You can have 100 people in a Buddhist temple, but place a case of beer on the floor and everyone needs to be arrested and thrown into jail with maximum fanfare and media coverage.
It's arbitrary and frivolous.  The move shuts-off the release valves of the average man.  "No fun for you commoners!  Fun illegal!  Bad people!!!"

All and all it's just another brick in the wall.

I have always thought of it also as "fake morality" where a Government tries to project an image of morality by cracking down on immorality in order to try and deflect/hide the reality of them.

Thaksin's/Prurachai's clampdown while they all gorged at the corruption trough.
