I guess that’s just more evidence of what I already suspected. What I want to know is who’s calling the shots on this? Is it prayOOt himself or is there some kind of plan actually on the ground with developers, Chinese, and landlords to orchestrate this?

It sure looks and feels like that. Unfortunately, it also bankrupts regular restaurants and the likes - businesses that aren't seedy at all but just happen to be located in Pattaya.

A strange thing I have observed during this whole debacle is that even during the curfew and beach closure times  one type of business was always open  and that being  shops selling beach wear, buckets and spades, rubber rings etc

Check on what Kobkarn Wattanvrangkul has said about Pattaya. She is a Sports and tourism minister.

Maybe it's as simple as the Thai government knows they are nowhere near the real vaccination figures that they need, or, are looking at 80% or perhaps 90% vaccinated, before opening up.

[I added the emphasis]

I am supporting a small bar in Pattaya to the tune of 10k baht per month. It is NOT "seedy" and the majority of such open air places are just trying to eke a meager existence as are the majority of similar bars. They provide a nice stool to sit and chat with friends.

To kill these locales is a blight on tourism. The "Fools on the Hill" just don't get it.

My post has nothing to do with Alcohol but it was  to highlight  the pure hypocrisy and double standards of the way this whole kung flu F***-up is being dealt with by the establishment.. There has to be a reason why Pattaya has been forgotten and left behind .

Tourists that want Covid :-

C - Can

O - Only

V - Visit

I - If (can get)

D - Drunk

What has illegality got to do with the tourism industry here, and the millions of Thai's it employs?

Nothing wrong with getting rid of the mongers and perverts IMHO. Just a pity that so many of them bought into the 'Pattaya dream' in the past 20 years or so and couldn't see that the writing was always on the wall. I guess they built a condo in front of the wall and the message was missed maybe?

This could be the reason for the strong baht

Stick to Dam's Bar. More action there than the WHOLE of Pattaya.

They might even need to (GASP) go into a 7/11 and buy some of that rice whiskey when the shakes get too bad.
