BANGKOK (NNT) - Europe is now experiencing a resurgence of COVID-19 outbreaks, notably in Austria, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Italy. In Thailand, respected public health figures are also expressing concerns about a potential resurgence of outbreaks in December amidst cooler weather and increased movement of people.

 

Prof. Prasit Watanapa, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, explained that the World Health Organization is highly concerned about the spread of Covid in Europe at the moment and warned that 500,000 deaths could be incurred by March unless urgent action is taken. He said studies show that outbreaks on one continent will spread to other continents in due course, but the death rate will be less than last year as the majority of people have been vaccinated.

 

Dr. Prasit said Thailand was among the first countries to administer the third dose of the vaccine after Covid infections started to rise in fully inoculated healthcare providers. He said European nations initially did not advocate the third dose but are now administering third doses to senior citizens afflicted with chronic illnesses and healthcare professionals.

 

Dr. Prasit noted that not every country that lifted Covid restrictions was greeted by problems, citing Japan and Israel. He asserted that discipline and cooperation in observing disease control measures are needed from all parties in order for Thailand’s ‘reopening’ to be successful.

 

He urged people to keep four risk contributors that comprised time period, person, venue, and activity from overlapping with one another. The professor elaborated that the month of December has many holidays and festivals coinciding with cooler weather, and therefore venue operators must avoid making their places into risk spots while individuals should refrain from putting themselves at risk.

Austria does not only give 3rd jab to vulnerable but to everybody incl. young ppl. Austria has also started vaccinating kids from 5 yrs onwards.

While infections have soared since Oct.  the lockdown is showing effect i.e. infections are going down. More ppl got vaccinated.

It would be wise if Thailand would continue mandatory PCR test after 16 Dec. ATK tests are not reliable.

Two months up, two months down, two months up ....

 

Same in Europe, Asia, everywhere.

 

Regardless of vaccines, lockdowns, variants, travel bans ....

Said Thailand was first to give 3rd vaccine dose to health staff. Maybe because they used the less effective Sinovac en-mass. I would think most of population of Phuket needs a 3rd dose by now.

Surprise it is early Winter in the Northern hemisphere, and that means flu season.

COVID is a killer flu type virus, so, be careful out there. Good Luck.

the new variant is easier to catch and is less pathogenic.classic corona virus behaviour so it will supplant the delta  and if it too is supplanted will eventaully disappear a la sars 1,i think we are on the last stretch.the SA variant has yet to officially kill anyone.

 

With the enormous surge in infections in Europe , it became clear again that a vaccination does not protect from becoming infected .

It protects from becoming seriously ill , but only for a limited time of about 6 month .

After that , regular booster shots without end ...

Let's hope that the new Omicron Variant is not able to bypass that protection .

Do I detect an agenda? From what I am hearing it is the unvaccinated that are causing the problem. And the vaccinated who catch it from them are far far far less sick and not as likely to die or be in hospital.

Along with the fact that the vaccines lose substantial efficacy after 4-6 months. So many countries have not efficiently implemented a 3rd/ booster regime. 

Prasit conveniently avoids mentioning that most other nations have used vaccines with far higher efficacy rates. 

 

This is not the Zombie Apocalypse. Some caution is OK. Living one's life in a state of panic and utter paranoia creates alot of stress, and ultimately decimates the immune system.

No one can accurately predict the future developments of this crisis .

In the beginning , they said , the virus will wane and disappear by itself . Not true .

It mutates ... and how these mutations will affect the human immune system is unknown .

Fact is that it circulates stronger than ever and there is no indication that it will  just disappear any time soon ...

The agenda may be, vaccinated we will try and help you, unvaccinated, ha ha you are on your own.

If, I say if I was the leader of a country such as Los, I would go out and test 2 million all across the country to get the real picture then and only then can you set about a plan, forget last year forget this year to date, if you want to no the state of play get out there.

He forgot to mention that the real reason they started to rise was that most people have not had their first vaccine yet.

Is it vaxxed or unvaxxed that have been found with this omnicron varient todate? 

.... just when you thought it was safe to back into the water....

It sounds like there will be a new variant after every six months, so they need to get their booster shot because the vaccines' manufacturers need to modify or add more substances to fight the new variants.
It is clear that our future will be sick, going to be full of new variants and booster shots because there is a long list of Greek alphabets still not used yet.

Thailand really would be prudent to re-introduce PCR testing instead of ATK for Tourists entering the Country from anywhere on the Planet.

The new Variant " Omicron ", seems to be extremely transmissible from the information that is out there at this present time, and already has reached several Countries in Europe within only 20 Days of being found in S. Africa.

or sure, there will be other Countries that have Omicron already, but due to lack of testing, the Variant has not been found ye, or for other reasons not reported, and with the " Open " Border Thailand has adopted to lure Tourists back, its a Powder Keg waiting to explode IMO..

Outside of Africa; it’s mostly been double vaxxed; but it’s all asymptomatic or very mild symptoms

Actually, a lot of people are tired of all these discussions regarding Covid variants, vaccinations and travel restrictions.

The best thing to do is to just ignore it and do your everday routine as usual.

Just watch what happens instead of just debating about it, since we're all ordinary people with apparently no status.

Reached Europe in 20days…..airlines just stopped flights from South African nations also has Omicon been a dominant variant in Europe.  No.
