  • Wow! Pie meet sky.   They'll need three more airports.   Planning for Suvarnabhumi started in 1973, it opened in 2006.

  • Really, I’d call it something much more robust and frankly unprintable on this forum.

I'm sure this is a typo, and should read 200 billion... ????

He reckoned that Thai airports - and Suvarnabhumi in particular - will be handling 200 million passengers by 2031.

Complete and utter fantasy.

This will only be true if a global war doesn't  break out by then.  Surely  holding China accountable  for the Virus, it's encroachment in others waters, and the Taiwan situation is at the most volatile.   Also Russia and the Ukraine plot, and the US has pledged to stand with Ukraine,  global issue are at a all time threat, and global war could happen.

I hope that's the bright side you're looking at.

Actually John C Stewart and I knew that.

555,   What they Expect and what they will get are Two different things .

They're off their heads .

My understanding is that the penalty for being a little off is the same as for being 200million off. No skin off my nose; hope they are correct.????

Just imagine the queues at immigration booths. If they are expecting 200 million then then need a few more airports and people to man the immigration booths.

More Nosense from a Government full of it.    By the time the World gets to 2031 the Countries surrounding Thailand will have ploughed forward with all the progress needed to starve this country of decent numbers of Tourists as things here will never change or will move at a snails pace compared to others.    Only when they sort out their Politics and get a proper Democratic Government in place with genuine vision for the future instead of bloated hype will they progress.  Somehow i don't think it will happen in my lifetime; as i have been here for 15 years and seen virtually zero progress in any sector apart from making rich people even more rich !   By 2031 they will be one of the SMALLEST HUBS in The World.

Like a tit on a flea, that sort of size?

More ridiculousness from the out of touch crowd.

If they muster up the courage to allow a PCR test with double Vax and no overnight quarantine, and if they do not threaten to quarantine incoming tourists who are exposed to Covid positive people sitting within two rows of them on the plane, they might see 1.5 million tourists in 2022. Maybe. Then as many as 2.5 million in 2023. I predict up to 5 million by 2026, and no more than than that annually for decades. Why?

1. None of the issues existing before Covid were ever addressed. Typical Thai style. These goons in charge won't take responsibility for anything.

2. Many economies have been devastated, and Thailand's tourist base of primarily lower income Indians, Chinese and Malaysians were hardest hit.

3. Thailand cannot and will not attract wealthy or even affluent tourists, for a dozen good reasons. No sacrifices are being made, to make Thailand more appealing to them.

4. Thailand is a nation in reverse. It is moving backwards, and represents the polar opposite of progress on countless levels. It is simply NOT becoming a better version of itself. The environment, traffic and public safety, horrific law enforcement, corruption, air quality, etc. Add to that heinous luxury and wine taxes, and you have an environment wealthy tourists avoid like the plague.

5. You cannot shut down the entire tourism industry for nearly 2 years, decimate the nightlife, hotels, restaurants and countless related businesses, engage in a very poorly planned vaccination program, create a climate of fear and panic, engage in making the place pure vanilla, and then just expect because you open your doors again, millions will flood in. The world does not work like that.

6. Thailand is NOT the center of the known universe. It is becoming less relevant by the minute. Tourists are forgetting Thailand. Thailand needs foreigners 100x more than they need Thailand.

I could go on and on and on. The goons just do not get it. At all. Cha Cha, you sincerely want more tourists? Trash the pass. Along with the ridiculous, heinous and draconian threats of quarantine if any of the 40 people sitting close by on the plane are found positive. This is Covid. This is not the Bubonic plague. Get real. Man up. Behave yourself.

Otherwise, be content with 50,000 tourists a month, 32% unemployment, broken souls and a future of poverty and decline. This is ALL on you!

Easy  to pull a figure out of the sky, in my old job if I was asked for a forward projection it was expected  to be some where near close,

yes THAI International better keep all the obsolete A340s and go find some more second hand 747s and 380s  quick.....

Quadrupling current figures in just 10 years is bit of an imaginary stretch. It will take quite a visionary leader in the government to drive such a bold business plan. The government will need to come up with very unique attractions to attract passengers. Dubai and Singapore airports are attractive due to their cleanliness, comfort even indoor cinemas besides speedy connectivity through the terminals. Let’s get political stability and a visionary government before we can even think about this ambitious endeavor.

Have you forgotten about the clean toilets at Krabi airport? A big draw right there

it's true he consulted with his fortune teller before he made any announcements!

This guy is obviously not right in his head,, and to protect the population needs to be locked away...

You guys are too harsh on those Thai Elites. Their calculation is not wrong. Once Thailand is fully absorbed by China (due to submarine debt or high speed rail debt or Mekong River water crisis etc.), all the Chinese flood into Thailand will surely push the airline arrivals to at least 500 millions per year or more. 200 million is underestimate.

I thought it started in the late 60’s.  Its modern incarnation was always planned for 100MAP, and the terminal was specifically designed to add the east and west wings after the midfield concourse was built.  Getting more than 100MAP out of the airport would be nearly impossible though within the current footprint; there isn’t enough runway capacity.

Not only that, but they will offer the best quality and have the lowest prices!
