It was another case in Thailand of the customer not being right but being wrong!

At least in the eyes of the owner of a restaurant after a complaint.

The story that started on Facebook with a female diner's complaint reached national Thai TV.

Thai Rath said that the woman and her boyfriend went to eat "Pet Paloo" - a duck meat dish - at their usual restaurant in Klong Luang, Pathum Thani.

When tucking into their meal they noticed maggots on the meat and brought this fact to the attention of the owner.

The owner allegedly then got angry and told them:

"I gave you a discount - what more do you want?"

There was apparently no apology and the diners were allegedly told to file a police report if they wanted to get something extra.

The customers were given 40 baht off their 640 baht bill.

Thai Rath said they tried to get in touch with the owner of the restaurant without success.

The restaurant was not named. In defamation crazy Thailand even proving your case might be pointless.

The usual response is "Well, I'll have to charge you extra."

Or,

"The maggots are locally sourced".

It's extra protein and therefore the price should have been increased!

The customers got off light. ????

After a celebratory birthday party, my wife found a dead (drunk) lizard in her wine glass.  The owner gave us 90 baht off out 6000+ bill. This was at our usual beachside place where we had been many times before.  We stopped going there; I reckon his parsimony has cost him over 100,000 and still climbing.

The owner was also kind to point out, "If you don't want the complimentary maggots, please advise us at time of order - as we aim to please and are delighted when our customers are satisfied and happy"

I once went to a Chinese restaurant and ordered Chef Surprise.

The waiter brought a large bowl with a lid to my table, said nothing, and walked away.

Slowly, the lid raised up by itself, and two eyes looked left and right from under the lid. Then it closed slowly.

This happened 2 or 3 times before I called the waiter over and asked what the Chef's Surprise was.

Peeking Duck, was his reply!

I'll get my coat! ????????

Reminds me of the old "Waiter Waiter there's a fly in my soup" joke.

But on a serious note, this type of story is exactly why the "Quality tourists" won't be flocking here any time soon. They need to address this type of thing first, and then they can move onto the type of first world service that quality tourists expect, such as waiters being able to explain a bit about what type of wine is on the menu. Wine being served at the correct temperature, meals being served to diners at the same time instead of 20 minutes apart etc.

On the bright side, at least the customers weren't assaulted for complaining.

And people wonder why Covid is spreading like wildfire.. ????

Yes, he was being very quizzacious in his choice of words.

Um.....without exception I can guarantee that everybody who has consumed food in a Thai restaurant in Thailand has involuntarily consumed and happily paid for:

Maggots, ants, cockroaches, flies, weevils, caterpillars, mosquitos, bamboo worms, spiders, geckos, centipedes, and need I go on?

Maggots look similar to rice when stir fried anyway.  :coffee1:

The duck looks as dry as a stick , think the maggots will have

a job chewing it ,

regards Worgeordie

The two got 'extra meat' (and probably a delicacy in parts of this country), and what do they do; they complain! They were lucky that they weren't charged extra for this special treat. ????

Yes I think you're probably right, and it takes me back to the time I spent in Biafra, (Nigeria) just after the Biafran war when food was very scarce because the authorities had purposely starved the south-eastern state in order to get them to capitulate.

We regularly ran out of any "identifiable meat" on our oil rig and whatever was dished up during the shortage was always bathed in a chili hot sauce of some description or another, so we wouldn't recognise the taste or even recognise its origins!

Some bright spark suggested that we were eating human flesh, because there were thousands of dead bodies on the mainland and the "meat" looked unlike any I had ever seen in my lifetime!

Never going to happen; they don't want to change anything, just take money, they are completely blinded by their own arrogance in thinking that they are a Superior Race who can never do wrong !

Fawlty towers Thai style, could just see john Cleese laughing at this if he read it

It looks more like fly eggs rather than maggots.  Pre maggots.  I had put a bowl of dog food down before and a couple minutes later looked at it and it looked like rice grains on it.  It can happen very fast.

...why single out Thailand...happens everywhere there is food...all about food hygiene and handling.

Get up and storm out - without paying the bill or eating any more food! Problem solved!

Holy duck, that is quite shocking

Not much of a discount... but duck does include the bill.

Welcome to Thailand...... service comes extra.

Owner is not thai enough

He's supposed to charge extra for the privilege and  because he is losing face

Clearly the customer is in the wrong
