Just days after Instagram was full of pictures of a maskless Anutin Charnvirakul at a party the controversial Minister for Health and DPM has urged his compatriots to raise their guard as Covid-19 cases rocket in the country.

This time he was pictured in a mask talking to officials in an INN article.

Anutin said that Thailand was dealing with an upsurge in cases of both the Delta and Omicron variant.

The latter appeared to be milder and he said that people with mild cases of the virus would be able to isolate at home or within communities.

He again urged the Thai public to get vaccinated and boosted and said that a program of walk-ins was being upgraded.

Earlier in the week netizens cried foul after Anutin's own son Pek published many images of a happy New Year party attended by the minister and other friends and relatives.

There was barely a mask in sight sparking more comments of "one rule for him, one rule for the rest of us" from the Thai public.

I like it here in Thailand.  Where I live it is peaceful and basically I am left alone to do as I please.  But when I think about Thai society I get angry.  Because of the double standard.  Because of the hiso wealth and people like my wife's parents getting like 800 THB/month to live on.  Then you see this guy Anutin at home with no mask, no social distance, telling people that it is their behavior that is causing COVID to spread.  And then he mandates business closures affecting many lives.  And these social restrictions will have no impact on the spread of the virus except maybe slightly delaying the timing.   The longer you live here the more you see this double standard in society.  But what gives me hope is that most of the Thai people are still happy as the government robs them of their livelyhood.  I truly hope that some real Thai leaders evovle that can think and get stuff done.  There are many good people here and Thailand can have a good future if put in the proper direction.

Just do what the majority of thais do, don't think about it.

Thinking about stuff is discouraged in the thai edumacation system, for a reason.

I can put up with the large forehead.

The sh*t-eating grin, not so much.

Looks better in a mask when we don't have to look at it!

What has that got to do with Anutin being a hypocrite ??????

We are your rulers and your overlords. You will do as we say, not as we do. The laws do not apply to us, and we are above any and all laws. It is about time you people understood that. I am getting tired of explaining how things work here, so stop telling me what to do. Only we are entitled to tell you how to live, how to behave, what you can do and what you cannot do. Start obeying us. We know what is best. Can't you see how benevolent and effective we have been?

Do as I say  not what I do.

Isn’t it great to see Anutin Exhorting … Do people give him money to do it ???

I read on Gravitas, that a new variant more contagious than Omicron has been found in France, from an infected Cameroon man. Whether it causes worse effects has not yet been established.

However, here we are in Thailand and should be ready to welcome Omicron to rid the country of Delta, a far worse variant. Healthy people should have no fear from the mildness of infection. That's what England is doing, and for once, I'm in accordance with their approach even if it further overloads the NHS.

Despite its many mutations, experts are not overly concerned about new coronavirus variant B.1.640.2, first discovered in a traveler returning from Cameroon to France.

The World Health Organization has said that the new coronavirus variant B.1.640.2, first detected in France, is not a variant of concern.

https://www.dw.com/en/coronavirus-health-experts-not-alarmed-by-variant-identified-in-france/a-60329823

So we can get back to panicking over Omicron.....

This is typical SE Asian behavior.  Those in power live by their own rules and the followers (from a young age) have been trained to accept it.  It’s standard practice here and those from the West don’t understand it.
