National – The Royal Thai Police introduced the “7 days, 7 clips, 70,000 baht” campaign to encourage the public to record video clips of traffic violators during seven dangerous days of Songkran holidays for a maximum reward of 10,000 baht.

 

Police Lieutenant Colonel Damrongsak Kittipraphat the director of the Traffic Management Center said today, April 8th, that the police had collaborated with the Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation, Viriyah Insurance, FM100 Radio, and FM91 Traffic Pro to launch the campaign with a goal to significantly reduce road accidents and create awareness of safe driving.

The public is encouraged to submit footage from their dash-cam or smartphones capturing drivers, riders, or road users who violated the traffic law that may cause harm to others. Footages of major road accidents that are beneficial for police investigation are also highly encouraged.

I guess all those cameras and patrols they added to roads arent yielding much that's why asking people to snitch. What a shame!

Just get the many police on the streets to do their job. 

 

Every day I see the cops on their patrol bikes (pcx & Nmax) ignoring traffic offenses by the public and do nothing. 

 

But, if they see me do something wrong, BANG, they're on the horn pulling me up. 

 

The system is broken, the police need to be retrained, it seems they don't want to book their own (Thais). 

 

You should submit your videos whilst the brown traffic cop cars sit on the hard shoulder just ignoring all the reckless drivers, day after day, year after year.

It sounds like a lottery thing. 

 

They'll get hundreds of videos a day, resulting in a lot of fines.  But it looks like they're only giving out 10K, once a day for 7 days.  At least that's the way I read it... 

 

Heck, they may even post up the best videos on YouTube and monetize the 10K back and then some.

Thepolice is too lazy to do their job. Every day I see on the road overloaded trucks, often driving on the right lane or speeding cars driving over 3 lanes, scooters on the middle lane with no helmets, cars with black smoke  and the traffic policecar at the side of the road is doing nothing. just stand still and if a big truck comes by they hold him and fine him a few hundreds of bath and that is it...

Police will be out there in plain clothes with cameras at the ready looking to film violations and then get paid.

I wonder if they will pay out if all the videos or photos sent in are of police officers. ????

If the police ever did anything they would be rich! Thousands perhaps millions of Thais that would not last a day on any roads in America, Most would have their cars and bikes taken away from them. Love how most just park their cars in the middle of the road too lazy to park their cars and walk twenty feet to a shop. Curious how many have died because these idiots park in the middle of the roads to go have lunch or dinner. I have noticed it tends to be the ARROGANT MY <deleted> DON,T STINK Bangkok Thais.

I wonder how many accidents will be caused by drivers attempting to video other drivers....

Think you are right about the money making, but wring about the plain clothes.

Just will be a 2,000 baht from 10,000 reward processing fee

 

So this idea sounds like Could lead to more excidents ..driver on their phones tryt to catch other drivers on their phone .. makes no sence at all..

I don't think there is a SD card with enough memory on it made to fit my dashcam that would be able to record every traffic infringement that I see in just this area in one day. But if the RTP want camera footage at 10,000 baht per infringement then I will own Thailand in about 3 weeks.

I know this isn't a serious statement or request!   In Pattaya on the Darkside I could place a camera on Soi Nernpludwan within an hour would capture thousands of violations based on Thailand handbook in obtaining a license I would be rich in a day if they actually were to pay!  Another problem when asking a local to do the reporting one is got to know the violation which is why no one is responding.????

This scheme is instead of the non-existent Pattaya Plod whose lethargy is infamous amongst law-abiding citizens and exceeded only by their greed.  All winners will be visited during the night by masked men for a % of the money.

I wonder if they would see the humor in my clips of the RTP breaking traffic laws.  Driving the wrong way, turning right from the far left, running red lights, driving on the sidewalk, etc…

I only traveled to the local DIY store today, a distance of maybe 10 Km, and back.

RTP you owe me 70,000 Baht if I put in my cameras footage.

Plod in Patts too busy collecting the Monthly Envelopes from the Business owners.

There's not enough memory in my dash cam, its only 4GB and that would be used up in one trip to my local coffee shop.  Why don't the lazy BiB get off their collective asses and do the job themselves,. the one they are paid for.  

Will it be okay if I submit clips of actual POLICE OFFICERS on motorbikes consistently violating practically every traffic law under the sun, including driving against the traffic flow, driving on footpaths, parking in prohibited areas, doing illegal u-turns, exceeding the speed limit, illegally crossing several traffic lanes at once, overtaking on the left, running red traffic lights, not stopping at "Stop" signs, driving down the wrong way in a one-way street, wearing no helmet, etc. etc.?

 

I can deliver 1 clip daily -- and not just for 7 days but for 365 days.

 

Shall I already plan my retirement? I reckon I can live rather comfortably on 10,000 baht a day. 

Total nonsense. They will never follow up. 

 

A while back they had another campaign similar to this, asking us to report polluting vehicles. They had posters with phone numbers that you could call to report offenders. We were driving and we saw this truck that was pumping out huge black clouds of smoke and I copied down their license plate and I dialed the number, and handed my phone to my Thai wife and asked her speak to the department. She asked the person who answered the phone what can they do? He ask my wife why are you calling us and she said, well you have phone numbers posted to report polluting vehicles? The guy said well I don't know anything about that, nor who I would report it to, and she said well that's not really our issue is it? You're supposed to be monitoring polluting vehicles. He said OK, I'll give me the license plate number and I'll see what I can do. My wife said are you going to do anything? He said, I don't know, I need to look at the regulations first and see who I'm supposed to report it to, and then maybe somebody will do something. Maybe. Did anyone ever follow it up? 

 

One guy in one department makes a proposal, and nobody else knows anything about it. The cops will not do anything, unless there is a payday involved. 
 

Here’s a novel idea for the RTP: why don’t you start doing your fracking job already? Honestly, the RTP must be the most useless police force in the world. Unless there is money to be made, then they spring into action right away.
