Neither do they always change for the worst.

How many marriages between Thai and Farang have been going for years?

In my case my 22nd anniversary was 28 April, and I knew my wife for 7 years before that. Of the 30 odd guys I know personally, only 2 have divorced. Most of them have been married as long as me and some for longer.

What you read in the forum is usually the bad news and rarely the good threads.

Why would that be? Because bad news sells and is click bait, but good news threads usually get hijacked.

I agree totally. I didn't say they 'always' change for the worst. I know several happy couples, but they're not the kind I hear whining on these threads. And some relationships do go downhill, in Thailand and elsewhere. As far as our Dane goes I imagine he didn't do a background check which might have helped him avoid his traffic accident ... but then again, who would?

I have life insurance for the wife, it is worth 10% of what I am worth alive.

The insurance will keep her and the kids going, easily, until the smallest one is 21.

My will is 50% to my daughter overseas, and 50% to my kids here, my daughter overseas is the executor and is instructed to put the money in an account in her country until her youngest sister reaches 21, so, her sisters will be 26 and 21 when they receive the money, i.e. unless I am still around for many years to come.

That is the plan, but you never know.

Same here, my magic number for young one is 25.

Killing foreigners for insurance money a welcome topic over a som tum meal in the villages!!

Well for 10 million baht about 300,000 $US the insurance companies will take a pretty hard look if they suspect foul play and, depending upon the policy language, the beneficiary(ies) might have to prove that there was NOT foul play and not the contrary.

You do understand that people only find out that their partner is a psycho when it's too late? You can congratulate yourself on having a partner you can depend on, but the final verdict isn't in yet. This Danish man, had he not survived the attack, may have gone to his grave trusting his partner as much as you trust yours.

A good reminder to all of us, if your wife tell you she want a divorce, let her go!

The unfortunate side to what you point out is he probably did not want to loose half of what he had here in Thailand, which unfortunately is what occurs.  I gladly let my now ex go after I found her cheating and walked with my half, happily.

That maybe one of the reasons the plod had to be seen putting some effort into findng the truth

Some women are never happy with what they already have, ungrateful B*tch...lock her up and throw the key away!!

Seems you are the kind of type who likes a lynch party without hearing the background of this case. Fortunately you are not the judge. And dont start to learn for it, because you lack the capability to balance the facts and circumstances. From what I know, this  Danish guy was not a fresh type, using and cheating his wife for several years with severe consequences. I know the ladies and the story. Hopefully they now will get a judge, who is really willing to hear the full story and make a balanced and honest decision.

The chances of getting a psyco are slim, going through life thinking your partner might kill you is overkill. Unless of course there are grounds for this.  Things change but in general (unless of course you cant communicate with your partner).

I think the default thing should be trust yuour partner unless your in a bad  relation

Did you have any expert estate/ legal advice when you set that up?

About 15 years ago, my family law specialist gave me all the advice I needed. That was a prenuptial agreement which was signed by my wife in the presence of an independent lawyer before we tied the knot, which she agreed what was mine was mine and that she was entitled to nothing.

Forming part of the prenuptial agreement was the life insurance and a block of dirt that I bought her, that block of dirt is where the house we live in was built 6 years ago.

Well I was referring to the plan you described, not the pre-nup,  that puts a lot that has to be worked out especially involving minors before a decision is finalized by a probate court.

It's easy to toss around platitudes about "if there's no trust, there can't be any love." I don't think anybody "totally" trusts anybody, when you get right down to it. We can debate whether "truly" knowing what's going on in someone else's heart and mind is possible, even in the best of circumstances. Plenty of philosophers have expressed skepticism about this.

My point was that when you throw in language barriers, cultural differences, and the socioeconomic motives for a Thai woman to enter into a relationship with an older foreign man, good luck reading the tea leaves, brother. Even if someone thinks they enjoy a high degree of trust with someone, things can change over time.

It should also be pointed out that if a foreigner is in a May- December (large age difference) relationship with a Thai woman, as many here are, over time, there's got to be an elevated risk of disaffection and infidelity which can sometimes be a motive for foul play. I would argue this should be considered when evaluating the advisability of taking out life insurance with your wife as the beneficiary.

I have seen this happen in a relationship that no one suspected would happen, a 20 Yr relationship where the falung had weeks only left dying of cancer, and was bumped by the wife's BF, both planned it, could not wait 6 weeks, but got caught. So you never know but saying that I know many that are happy and I know Thai women that looked after their older husbands well until they passed. This also happens in all cultures.
