BANGKOK (NNT) - Authorities are exploring effective Covid-19 prevention measures for nightclubs, bars and other night entertainment venues if they’re allowed to reopen.

 

According to Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the public health committee has met with the Department of Disease Control (DDC) to discuss ways to ensure that these night entertainment venues do not become Covid-19 clusters once their businesses resume operations.

The Public Health Minister expressed his concerns, saying that encouraging people, particularly foreigners, to follow regulations such as wearing face masks in these locations would be challenging for authorities.

 

The discussion follows the government’s decision to lower its Covid-19 alert level from 4 to 3, which allows most activities to resume with fewer restrictions. The number of daily infection and fatality cases has declined recently, while more than 134 million vaccination doses have been administered to people in the country.

One would think that a moo-kata/shabu type restaurant with hundreds of maskless Thais sitting shoulder to shoulder would be a bigger concern.

Anutin better think of something enhenius to enable people to drink a beer while wearing a mask

I don't think it's the bars per se they are worried about., more the gogos and nightclubs. That's how I read it anyhow

Because he’s a complete and utter tool who doesn’t think before opening his mouth and has no idea how ignorantly racist his comments come across - these clowns have no media training. 

 

 

There is also perhaps some ‘face saving’ involved as mask wearing is getting dropped in many other areas such as Europe (no longer necessary on flights). 

 

The message should really be a simple one: 

If you have symptoms, wear a mask.

If you live with someone who has symptoms, wear a mask. 

It's now time to deal with Covid in the same manner as the Japanese have dealt with colds for decades - be socially responsible, wear a mask if you feel you need to. 

 

The problem now of course is that anyone wearing a mask would be indicating they have symptoms and could be treated negatively. 

 

So, the only viable option is ’no masks’ and allow society to make its own rules. 

 

Personally, I don’t think wearing masks in built up busy area’s such as public transport / MRT etc is a bad thing...  but it is surely now a personal choice. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The right approach is critical: I am sure the newly announced "Krieng Jai" committee will come up with face-saving plausible deniability guidelines in short order.

Who are they fooling? Everyone know what is going on in clubs even the BIB as time goes on the rules are being broken already with the nonsense your got to be a restaurant plus the application is inconsistent Thai locals are partying drink all night loud music able to buy liquor as if the pandemic has already ended,  cluster!  

In spite of all the violations the rate is dropping?

That's different, Thais are known to be squeaky clean, super hygienic and un-able to speard infections.

Only foreigners can do this.

The rumour problem (mask-wearers are suspects) is typical Western. Thais and East Asians are used to mask-wearing in public.

Sorry you clown, you cannot have both the opening the night life venues AND keeping the wearing of masks. They are incompatible.

I agree Richard. Govt and in particular Anutin open their mouths daily for no particular reason, make a rod for their own backs and then have no idea how to deal with consequences.

Far too much time spent "making" face and then saving face.

Who out there believes they arent already open?  True that the great numbers of go-go's, clubs, and bars haven't  reopened  possibly because they lost their business.  But make no mistake walking street, and other sois across  Pattaya are open daily.  So this news would appear to be an act.  The act that they arent open, and are looking for ways to open them.

They are open too! Go to Nana or Cowboy and have a look. ????

Seriously, are these guys blind? Any bar or Gogo that wants to be open is already open. They paid off their local office,  got their so called restaurant license and open until midnight. Just walk around Nana Plaza or Walking Street or Tree Town etc. If they are not open it is because of economic reasons (don't have the volume to justify it) not government rules. 

 

All they are doing is slowing the tourist volume as they don't know it is already open and just hear the Thai Govt saying all entertainment venues are closed. Crazy.

The policy is inconsistent I'm not bashing Thailand this is happening all over the world even with every CDC. 

But with Thailand,  let take the bars they are given a rule if you get a license serve food then it on. Pick a girl and order some chicken wings from a sidecart and cold beer then no violation. 

GoGo's in the beginning lights and curtain must be open girls sit outside you like one go in buy her a drink no social distance what is the difference if they are on stage or not does having the lights on prevent covid? 

As time went on slowly the curtains are closed lights dimmed clubs hires lookouts to warn BIB are coming now no need since red envelopes are handed out you got a whole table of police stationed on WS, riding their mountain bikes for show knowing full well guys like me are inside swapping spit and licking human chicken wings!  ????

On the Darkside of Pattaya with locals they don't even try to hide it,  Just the other night in a Thai club I'm having a buckets of wings sharing with other Thai cops my neighbors and it was finger licking good!  Who the hell are they fooling! ????

Yes, foreigners do seem to be more capable of thinking for themselves and speaking/acting out against ridiculous/illogical rules. I guess that comes with a decent education that encourages independent thought and doesn't only focus on subservience and acquiescence to some 'higher' power.

 

Which is probably why many of our home countries are pretty much back to normal while most of Thailand is still walking around wearing face nappies in the open air while nobody is within 100 metres of them and acting as though the Black Death is upon them.

I am not so sure about the "capable of thinking for themselves" bit

Going around Pattaya it is very clear that the majority of Thais are wearing the masks in public and taking them off either in private or in a closed setting

It is the foreigners that are walking around without masks trying to "flaunt" the fact that they don't want to wear one - but of course still have to put one on when they go into a shopping mall otherwise they are not let in.

So who are being the clever ones here?

Just go for a walk down soi Nana. Thais are wearing masks, but see how many farang are too good for the rules. It’s only the tourists refusing to wear them out on the street.

It is very difficult to tell from the angle at which that photo was taken, but I have my suspicions as to whether that heffalump was wearing a mask!
