Texas Governor: 15 killed in school shooting; gunman dead

UVALDE, TEXAS — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says 15 people were killed in a shooting Tuesday at an elementary school.

Abbott says the suspected shooter, an 18-year-old man, also died and was believed to be killed by responding officers. He says 14 children and one teacher were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, about 85 miles west of San Antonio.

Abbott says the shooter had a handgun and possibly a rifle.

According to (Texas senator) Ted Cruz today gun control "doesn't work"

There are two answers to this

1) You have never tried it

2) Where they have tried it, it has worked - after the Dunblane school massacre 25 years ago the UK introduced very tough gun control laws and gun amnesties - not perfect but still quite effective - in 25 years there have only been 2 mass shootings (more than 4 people killed not including the perpetrator) - in Australia since the Port Arthur shootings in 1996 there have been zero mass killings (worth repeating - zero) - and after the mass shooting at a mosque in New Zealand similar new gun laws have been introduced

In the US by contrast there have been two mass shootings this week

So where is the proof that gun control "doesn't work"?

Wow, we have a World News forum again.  Bravo.

Before heading to the school, Ramon killed his grandmother with two military-style rifles he purchased on his birthday, Gutierrez said.

“That was the first thing he did on his 18th birthday,” he said.

The US is asking with their Gun Laws for such Mass Shootings, so they get it.

Exactly, what goes round comes round and a society as sick as one where so many people consider it is a good idea to be armed then well it will never end and only get worse.

Terrible, horrible when will they ever learn.

Take away the guns!

50  Senators voted down a bill to increase background checks.
Why? Because gun manufacturers finance their campaigns.

They also for the same reasons vote against measures to encourage renewable energy / deny man made climate change …..and the also vote against health care / cheaper pharmaceuticals ….and vote against increased taxes on the rich….
Are you getting it now?

Now i just read in another language news paper,19 students,2 teachers and the gunman

dead.

He was being bullied and before he went he also shot his grandma, bought the guns on his 18th

birthday.

Time for a turn around in thinking over there.

Before i read the evergreen "when guns are outlawed outlaws will still have guns"

Yes true but how many career criminals are going to shoot innocent children in a school?

  • Popular Post

Yes the death toll is higher than originally reported and also indications that he was bullied. No laws will be changed. This is America.

Apparently according to news stories the gunman was bullied and was angry because he didn't graduate .  Bloody tragic RIP

Specifically, Australia had a dozen mass shootings (4 or more victims) per year average before 1996 and ZERO since. That's 16 years ago. That statistic makes arguments like "gun control doesn't work" look imbecilic.

You're right.  Absolutely nothing will change.  After Sandy Hook, I was naive to think that something would change...and it didn't.  Nothing will change in my lifetime.  Which means more dead people....guaranteed.

Amazing how the far right carp on about the drug companies making a squillion by pushing supposed propaganda but then it's crickets when it comes to the gun manufacturers doing the same thing. One thing is for sure, there will be more thoughts and prayers and talk about mental illness on Fox.

Citizens the FBI categorize as “terrorist sympathizers” residing on the FBI ‘no fly’ list can buy guns, thanks to Republican politicians with support from Fox scare media blocking any efforts to regulate guns sales.

I started to travel Us from the Mid west down south 16 years old and frequently visited for almost 10 years, and I was shocked in the beginning of some of the extreme mentality of government fear, fear of police and other official institutions no matter left or right wings. And also the broad extreme hate among some people often right wingers who totally dominated discussions where the rest just shut their mouth for not escalating more heated discussions.

Going to the shooting range, there where always human targets used of different profiled politicians and religious leaders around the world, also american politicians.

Im just not convinced Usa can be saved from all this nut heads around in their country, and they seem to grow especially after Trump as president.

White supremacy terrorism and hate crimes quadrupled in the USA during the Trump years, according to the FBI and DHS crime report.

Numerous mass shootings of blacks, Jews and immigrants by right wing crackpots and a look at their social media blame “white replacement theory” that is regularly spouted by conservatives and Fox.

I wonder why this is still in the news.

Everybody outside of America knows that Americans are crazy. They could have changed their gun laws hundreds of times. And they had enough shocking mass killings as reminders that they should do something. But they don't.

And inside America it seems most politicians are scared to implement harsh gun laws. Because if they would do that then lots of nutters wouldn't vote for them anymore.

Summary: There will be many more of these killings and basically nothing will change. That is America - a country with too many crazy people.

But nothing will change.  Sad and frustrating but the majority of American people are too weak or stupid to make change happen.  Meanwhile their children are being slaughtered over and over again!

A civil war will neutralize and maybe regain humanity in a different way, like in Europe, but we all know there is coming a larger world conflict so it might be it.
