Popular Post webfact Posted June 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted June 11, 2022 By Tanakorn Panyadee Banglamung, Chonburi — Some Pattaya locals were perplexed by freshly painted zig-zag lines on Chaiyapruek Road and some other areas in front of pedestrian crossings. Police claimed it helped slow down drivers. Yesterday, June 10th, local media went to Chaiyapruek Road and Walking Steeet in the Nong Prue subdistrict of Banglamung, Chonburi, after a picture of zig-zag street lines captured by local residents went viral on Facebook and sparked a lot of questions. The majority of the questions concerned the definition of the lines and how drivers should react to them. Popular Post blackshadow Posted June 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted June 11, 2022 and they think these Zig zags SLOW thai, or any driver down ??? what they need are road humps on the roads !!!!! 6 1
Popular Post doctormann Posted June 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted June 11, 2022 Maybe supposed to indicate no overtaking zones, as is the case in UK. Not a chance of being observed here of course. As for speed humps - these need to be across the whole width of the road. If they stop short of the kerbs the m/cs just zoom through the gaps. Unfortunately, extending to the kerbs potentially interferes with water drainage. Maybe need some different traffic calming measures - but what? 3 1
Gottfrid Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Good that he said the reason. Before drivers slowed down because they didn´t know the meaning. Now he totally blew it and everyone know. So, better belt up and hide for the speed again. ????

Of course the RTP may well think that as they are simply a bunch of ignorant morons whose only claim to fame is how much they can extort. As you correctly said humps are the best answer which extend from kerb to kerb, not with a small space so the loonies on motorcycles can just avoid them, they also need to be at the appropriate spacing to make it extremely uncomfortable for the car passengers and driver should the driver go too quickly over them. 7

Speed bumps are the only thing which will work... Putting a raised ‘drain entrance’ where the speed-bump meets the Kerb would be the solution... But... as with all of the se issues they involve money... and where roads are concerns Thailand only seems to want to spend money on on ornamental lamp-posts... Now... If those in positions of decision making power could only find away to make money from effective pedestrian crossings with speed bumps then we’d see a reduction in these issues... 3

We used to call them "sleeping policemen". There are surely plenty of those in Thailand .... 12
Kaoboi Bebobp Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 They can't even see me waving for service in a bar and can't see signs for disabled parking in malls. Yeah, squiggly lines are going to work. 1
LiamB80 Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 To me the crosswalk seems like the most dangerous place to cross. It gives a false sense of security and people drop their guard only to get run over by a speeder not paying attention. The city already has speed bumps everywhere. 1

Rumble strips I would expect to be a benefit.... speed humps are severe and may cause a few accidents. If we force motorcycles close to the kerb, maybe the middle road area will be safer for those crossing. We got a long way to go here! 1
Henryford Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 No it's to warn drivers that they have to accelerate.

Then hit a pedestrian on the crossing as they were to busy looking at the markings. 3

Popular Post AhFarangJa Posted June 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted June 11, 2022 This street line is designed to be a little bulging and zig-zag so that it will alert the drivers of the crosswalk ahead,” Pitchsinee told The Pattaya News. No...........The law in U.K. at least is that there is no parking, nor overtaking within the lines. Fat chance of that happening in the Me,Me,Me, driving culture here. 3 1
champers Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 These will be fun when the driver has had a few too many tokes of the now "legal" MaryJoanna. Mindbending.
RJRS1301 Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 They have obviously failed at community education if the locals are perplexed, another road rule which will not be obeyed or enforced. Whose family owns the paint manufacturing plant? 2

Quite so, I have seen many tourists in Pattaya attempting to cross on the pedestrian crossing only to find that traffic zooms past them and ignores the crossing. Certainly in the UK pedestrians have the right of way, here????? 1 1

Cake Monster Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 The UK has had Zig-Zag lines painted for about 10 Meters or so immediately adjoining a pedestrian Crossing. They are a Tad more discreet that these Thai ones, but are intended to act as a warning of the crossing imminent

chalawaan Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Perplexity leads to "passing away". At crosswalks/zebras.
ThailandRyan Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 How about installing Bollards that shoot up out of the ground when the light turns red, and have them staggered to keep the motorbikes at bay as well. 1 1
