Well I might not trust the UK press too much not to embellish a story.

What a load of rubbish. Kill a man 2km from his home to get his money at home. And from where do you get the £20k from.

  • So sad when it happens to a good guy like this man seemed to be. It sounds like a very personal attack. It said he had no enemies, yet he apparently wasn't robbed so the shooter was very deliberate in

  • I have only just joined this conversation and you are quite correct....such pointless and cruel speculation....and how do I know....because Neil was my best mate here in Thailand.....I have had the pl

There is evidence that the Brit got aggressive and violent, hitting the lunatics car.

The lunatic did say in his testimony that his car was hit. And he did turn himself in and is fully cooperating. I don't know why he'd fabricate a little detail like that. The cameras probably have it. I have no reason to believe that didn't happen. And it was a little over the edge. Which pushed the lunatic over the edge.

And I agree that its always farangs. Road rage is a national sport in the west. It isn't in Thailand.

Well now, 'Mr Meeseeks/Knowitall' knows very little.

And what kind of passport does a troll have? After all, you should know.

Again, it was a direct quote from one involved. He said the Brit hit his car.

If there's one thing that we can be certain of, it's that murderers always tell the truth.

He seemed to be in an open and truthful mood when he turned himself in. And cameras most likely caught it all. Why would he make up this detail?

He would make it up to try and justify his murder of an unarmed man. AFAIK there is no CCTV of the alleged road rage.

He shot an old, unarmed man 4 times in the back at a time when he was clearly no longer (if ever he was) a threat.

You're trying to apply logic and common sense to later actions of that same "man". I wouldn't believe a single word of what he said without additional proof.

It is comforting to see things are slowly getting back to normal.

Are there any photos of the close friend and carer from Mukdahan?

You were there when he turned himself in?

It is how he was at the time of the incident that is important, no mention as to whether he was under any influence then, as he had to wait until the morning to hand himself in.  If you have to ask why he might have lied you do not know Thailand... a loud blast from a Scoopy horn got him all wound up... that even sounds ridiculous.  And nothing could justify murder, the shooting of an unarmed man trying to get away. Sounds like a strong case of bigotry and hatred of foreigners.

It is imparitive that this case be followed: And if he gets off with less that 15 or 20 years then a very serious letter writing movement to embassy's is in order.

If you choose to participate in road rage in Thailand you will have a bad day.

Leave your anger at home all you angry guys.

As I said, there is no evidence that happened, only the coward  murderer's statement. You assume a lot.

I agree, I'm not buying the road rage story

My comments are not a personal attack on you, just an opinion I have.

We all have opinions.

Neil was my good friend for almost 15 years...a retired Railway Track Engineer with vast knowledge of tracking and point systems and he has worked in many countries throughout the world as well as the UK...a vastly experienced man and a very healthy one at that he was not short of money and the lady who was his housekeeper was exactly that and nothing more.....despite what is being claimed.

I am in contact with Neils sister in the UK who in turn is being assisted by the British Consulate here.....some of the stories and comments I have read covering this are absolutely ridiculous.

The only issue I have is having no knowledge of exactly what lead to this tragic episode only two people know this and one cannot answer.....is the killers version of events truthful or is he trying to cast some blame onto my friend....I do not know and no-one else does so I make no comments.

R.I.P. Neil

I'm sorry for your loss.

RIP Neil.

Being an introvert is lower risk indeed

One can be an extrovert or introvert. The main thing is to not show all your cards. It’s easier if your introverted because you can deflect questions better.

Notice how the comments all mention how he was an engineer, not short of money, worked all over for the railroads, etc. Sounds like he was an open book.

Many people don’t like that. They get envious, smile to your face, but keep digging for more info rather than going away. They get angry inside the more success you seem to have but act like they like you. Like a kettle that boils over.

The gunman did not know him.....it was a road rage incident....so what has that got to do with him being an "open book" show some respect to someone you know nothing about who has just had his life taken away.

idiots are everywhere.

It could have been anything, road rage or something else.

The thing that feels odd to me is the reports on the victims character and how great a person he was. It could be true, it just seems a bit over the top compared to usual reporting.

Anyone know what happened with this case? Was the killer convicted?

Not necessarily. There are people in every country who will just shoot. Thailand is not immune. Younger guys, thugs, drunks, psycho's...

When these things happen I would go directly to talk to victim wife/girlfriend.

People who are gun lovers travelling to and from ranges or wherever with a loaded weapon who have not quite had the ultimate gun experience, and covet it!

The last information I had was that the gunman was sentenced to 4 years reduced to 2 years as he admitted the crime and co-operated with the police... this was 6 months ago and he was appealing against it which allowed him to be out on bail 😮‍💨

So running around as free as Thaksin!

Have to wonder if they took his gun off him.
