The case of a US tourist who was handcuffed by a bouncer and slapped at a Khao San road pub has been settled with a basket of goodies and 50,000 baht.

On hearing that the tourist - Rodric W. Carkhuff, 34 - had gone to the central investigative branch of the RTP to make a complaint the owner of "The Club Khaosan" turned up with local business leaders to settle the matter.

While the guard admitted using cuffs it was stated that no knife was used. It was all a misunderstanding over a bottle of water.

Mr Carkhuff said that he had worked as an English teacher in Thailand and was back on holiday. He had gone to the pub with several friends.

The incident has not affected his positive feelings towards Thailand.

Mr Carkhuff now works in the water industry in the US.

His lawyer Kriangsak said that the case was not made at the local police station - Chana Songkhram - due to safety concerns for his client.

Khao San Road business leaders Prasit Singdamrong and Sanga Reuangwattanakul turned up with the owner or representative who was not named.

They stated that six members of the security team that were at the pub on the night in question have been sacked along with the manager.

A payment of 50,000 baht was made to Mr Carkhuff to settle the case.

Thai Rath reported that that was what he asked for.

Good result and Thais actually admitting they were wrong (wow!). The bouncer was not moved to an inactive post then?

They are afraid to go to court apparently and have this solution.. But is was better if they hold the man and told him that water was not free and he had to pay for it... in decent words and there were no problems at all.....This is a very expensive bottle of water for the bar

If this dude wants to keep enjoying Pattaya and Bangkok and bars and whatever, you better say LOS is the best of the best of the best, even after you get beat down .....

handcuffed and slapped!!!!   great time, love it!!!!   recommended for the family!!!  5 star review!!!!  sure, I'm super happy, no hard feelings!!!!

in America, sue everyone.......make sure it's on video, sue more people, collect 100 billion baht and THEN go to Thailand.

We get off the plane knowing we might get beat down and handcuffed and it's fun!!!!  lol

What story did you read?

That guy was a teacher in Thailand before.... Then he knows that water at your table in bar/eatery is a service to be paid for. An imbecile ignores.

It was all a misunderstanding

Yes. The security guard misunderstood that he could get away with slapping and handcuffing a tourist.

Credit where credits due. Well done to the club and it's owners, they took the right course of action in my opinion, but it was their intoxicated on power bouncer.that should of been made to cough up and foot the compensation bill. That would probably have been."I got no money"

A Thai's favourite saying,in which case it should have been him seeing how it felt to wear handcuffs.
