Former self made man to sleeping in a gas station - all thanks to a pretty Thai woman

A north east man from humble beginnings who worked his way up to be the owner of a tour bus company has been left destitute and homeless.

All because if an attractive Thai woman who he thought had finally made him find love.

Instead he found penury.

After twenty days sleeping in his car at a gas station he has decided to try and strike back seeking the help of a popular social activist.

Yesterday Ubon Ratchathani native Sanya Lawilat, 46, went to the owner of Sai Mai Tong Rort in Bangkok, Ekkaphop Leuangprasert with his story of woe.

He came from a poor family and was a "dek wat" temple child getting what passed for an education from monks.

But he paid attention and after leaving the monkhood and doing his bit for the Thai military he started work doing whatever he could.

He scraped and saved so that he could start a tour bus company and managed to get a house and look after his mum and dad.

Through all this there was never a woman in his life, his religious upbringing had led him on a path of the straight and narrow, reported Thai Rath.

All that changed when stunning "B" came on the scene and told him how her own similar business had foundered.

He took pity and a relationship blossomed even though they never actually did the "jot thabian" and became formal husband and wife he thought he had finally met his soulmate.

But while Sanya was away driving the buses all hours "B" - who was meant to be working on the business at home - was entertaining a fancy man.

Sanya had put her in charge of all finances.

When he got back from a trip three weeks ago there was a strange person in his home.

He said he was the owner of the house and business now.

B had used her position of trust to get documents and fake certain things.

So Sanya was out on his ear - three weeks in his car followed before he decided to seek Ekkaphop's help and do something about the two timing B.

Much of this type of fraud could be avoided if Thailand would require notarization of signatures on all important documents such as transfers of title.  While not foolproof it would add a layer of protection for the victims.  Yes, I know corrupt notaries are a problem.  So,  prosecute them with stiff penalties.

TIT ....   Trust & honesty are extremely rare here while the opposite is prevalent.

^^ But then parties might lose face for suggesting such a thing as it would bring doubt.

Poor dude. Do think the article should put 'stunning' into parentheses though. Women of course get duped, but the amount of men that get the shaft in the name of that diseased word love!

One of the main purposes of the notarization of signatures is to remove doubt about the validity of the document.

As far as loosing face Asian cultures need to wake up to the fact that while this trait can lessen the chance of confrontations there can also be a steep price to pay.

Definition of Penury: a cramping and oppressive lack of resources (such as money)
especially : severe poverty

Haaa? aaaah - oohh OK.

Thanks for another education Rooster:biggrin:

I'm worried that this 'pretty' will respond with defamation accusation against him.

One can only hope that the new guy in her life now takes her to the cleaners.

Well, we all seem to have a very different definition of what girlfriend is, or is not. I hear some men or women talk about being in love with someone after knowing them two weeks. All that is, is anxiety, impatience, and the intense desire to be in love. Some are more in love with the idea of being in love, than with the person they are with. I think for most of us who are emotionally healthy, the idea of taking one's time to really get to know someone, is alot more informative and desirable, than just losing oneself in the moment.

I have seen countless men lose their fortunes, or at least their financial stability here, by moving too fast, assuming she is someone she definitely is not, and projecting too much onto someone they have not bothered to really get to know, and allowing the woman to push the agenda. Always push back against a timeline. Always. It is far better to lose the woman, than to unnecessarily lose your money and feel like a fool.

Alot of guys fall in love with the idea of being in love. And they devote their heart to a woman who is undeserving. So, the best course of action, if to take you time to get to know her. Time allows clarity. If it is good it will only get better. If there are problems (such as the ones you are describing), they will manifest themselves over time. This is why you do not allow yourself to get emotionally invested, until you know who she is. That takes a year, or two, or longer. If she shows you she is not worthy of your affection, and attention, you walk away. Man up. Pay tribute to your gender. Show yourself some self respect. Do not allow yourself to be abused, and treated like a street dog.

Is there actually any reason to stating that she is Thai? The original article doesn't.

erm.... the cynic in me here suspects someone has been fettling with chat GPT...

Input #1: Write a Story for Asean-now which includes the word ‘penury’ and is an utter lightening rod for those of a ‘you pay for it one way or another’ mindset !!!! ????

Not saying it isnt but seems a bit far fetched, no going to the police or nothing

Also why not sleep in one of the tour buses rather than a petrol station or go to a temple

You're over playing the the ‘Thai victim card' in this one....   there’ sno issue stating the fact that the female in question is a Thai female any more than there is in mentioning the fact that the man was from the North East of Thailand....

It's misleading. From the headline, it looks like the man is not Thai. Why not "Thai man"?

Penury, penury ? Holy smokes, annual thesaurus day is it ?

This is AseanNOW and a story about a bloke getting ripped off by a gold-digger, not the HBR or the Economist.

why this guy has not gone to the cops is beyond me . lets hope there is a good outcome for him.

Would think forging documents should be enough to turn this around, but of course being Thailand he might end up getting sued for libel.

No chance of that. Not sure why this story is in the news section of an expat forum. Rather than attract new members, I think it has the opposite effect.

That's one lucky guy.

He ended up with a car to sleep in.

So, if religion had its way, he and every other male would never be with a woman and the human race would die out. Okay.

Click, click click

How many buses did he have in this company ?

One that he drove himself, or a fleet of busses?

How many bank payments did he miss due to shutdown during Covid and lack of Tourists. Was he staying in her house or vice versa. Maybe his company just went bangkrupt and she decided to move on with someone else.

Love loves to love love.

Zero chance despite being Thai.  I was awarded 25% of my house value by Thai  courts after my ex used a crooked auditor & manipulated share ownership. She married a Swede within three months of my divorce.

He's one of many guys who's balls are bigger than his brains.

This is quite a negative response.  You do understand he isn't British, right?
